エペソ人への手紙 4

1 さて、主の囚人である私はあなたがたに勧めます。召されたあなたがたは、その召しにふさわしく歩みなさい。

I therefore, a prisoner in the Lord, urge you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

2 謙遜と柔和の限りを尽くし、寛容を示し、愛をもって互いに忍び合い、

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love;

3 平和のきずなで結ばれて御霊の一致を熱心に保ちなさい。

being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 からだは一つ、御霊は一つです。あなたがたが召されたとき、召しのもたらした望みが一つであったのと同じです。

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling;

5 主は一つ、信仰は一つ、バプテスマは一つです。

one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 すべてのものの上にあり、すべてのものを貫き、すべてのもののうちにおられる、すべてのものの父なる神は一つです。

one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all.

7 しかし、私たちはひとりひとり、キリストの賜物の量りに従って恵みを与えられました。

But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

8 そこで、こう言われています。 「高い所に上られたとき、 彼は多くの捕虜を引き連れ、 人々に賜物を分け与えられた。」

Therefore he says, "When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to people."

9 ――この「上られた。」ということばは、彼がまず地の低い所に下られた、ということでなくて何でしょう。

Now this, "He ascended," what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?

10 この下られた方自身が、すべてのものを満たすために、もろもろの天よりも高く上られた方なのです。――

He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.

11 こうして、キリストご自身が、ある人を使徒、ある人を預言者、ある人を伝道者、ある人を牧師また教師として、お立てになったのです。

He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 それは、聖徒たちを整えて奉仕の働きをさせ、キリストのからだを建て上げるためであり、

for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ;

13 ついに、私たちがみな、信仰の一致と神の御子に関する知識の一致とに達し、完全におとなになって、キリストの満ち満ちた身たけにまで達するためです。

until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature person, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

14 それは、私たちがもはや、子どもではなくて、人の悪巧みや、人を欺く悪賢い策略により、教えの風に吹き回されたり、波にもてあそばれたりすることがなく、

that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of people, by cleverness in deceitful schemes;

15 むしろ、愛をもって真理を語り、あらゆる点において成長し、かしらなるキリストに達することができるためなのです。

but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ;

16 キリストによって、からだ全体は、一つ一つの部分がその力量にふさわしく働く力により、また、備えられたあらゆる結び目によって、しっかりと組み合わされ、結び合わされ、成長して、愛のうちに建てられるのです。

from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.

17 そこで私は、主にあって言明し、おごそかに勧めます。もはや、異邦人がむなしい心で歩んでいるように歩んではなりません。

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the nations also walk, in the futility of their mind,

18 彼らは、その知性において暗くなり、彼らのうちにある無知と、かたくなな心とのゆえに、神のいのちから遠く離れています。

being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts;

19 道徳的に無感覚となった彼らは、好色に身をゆだねて、あらゆる不潔な行ないをむさぼるようになっています。

who having become callous gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 しかし、あなたがたはキリストのことを、このようには学びませんでした。

But you did not learn Christ that way;

21 ただし、ほんとうにあなたがたがキリストに聞き、キリストにあって教えられているのならばです。まさしく真理はイエスにあるのですから。

if indeed you heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:

22 その教えとは、あなたがたの以前の生活について言うならば、人を欺く情欲によって滅びて行く古い人を脱ぎ捨てるべきこと、

that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old self, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit;

23 またあなたがたが心の霊において新しくされ、

and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24 真理に基づく義と聖をもって神にかたどり造り出された、新しい人を身に着るべきことでした。

and put on the new self, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

25 ですから、あなたがたは偽りを捨て、おのおの隣人に対して真実を語りなさい。私たちはからだの一部分として互いにそれぞれのものだからです。

Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another.

26 怒っても、罪を犯してはなりません。日が暮れるまで憤ったままでいてはいけません。

"Be angry, but do not sin." Do not let the sun go down on your anger,

27 悪魔に機会を与えないようにしなさい。

neither give place to the devil.

28 盗みをしている者は、もう盗んではいけません。かえって、困っている人に施しをするため、自分の手をもって正しい仕事をし、ほねおって働きなさい。

Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.

29 悪いことばを、いっさい口から出してはいけません。ただ、必要なとき、人の徳を養うのに役立つことばを話し、聞く人に恵みを与えなさい。

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

30 神の聖霊を悲しませてはいけません。あなたがたは、贖いの日のために、聖霊によって証印を押されているのです。

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 無慈悲、憤り、怒り、叫び、そしりなどを、いっさいの悪意とともに、みな捨て去りなさい。

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice.

32 お互いに親切にし、心の優しい人となり、神がキリストにおいてあなたがたを赦してくださったように、互いに赦し合いなさい。

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
