ピリピ人への手紙 1
1 イエズス、キリストの僕たるパウロ及びチモテオ、総てフィリッピに於てキリスト、イエズスに在る聖徒、並に監督及び執事等に[書簡を贈る]。
PAUL and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
2 願はくは我父にて在す神及び主イエズス、キリストより、恩寵と平安とを汝等に賜はらん事を。
grace be unto you and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 我汝等を想起す毎に、我神に感謝し、
I give thanks to my God on every remembrance of you,
4 凡ての祈祷に於て常に汝等一同の為に喜びて懇願し奉る。
always in every prayer of mine for you all, making request with joy,
5 蓋汝等最初の日より今に至る迄、キリストの福音の為に協力したれば、
for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day even until now;
6 汝等の中に善業を肇め給ひし者の、キリスト、イエズスの日まで、之を全うし給はん事を信頼せり。
being confident of this very thing, that he who hath wrought in you the good work will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ:
7 汝等一同に就きて我が斯く思へるは至當の事なり、其は汝等我心に在り、又我が縲絏の中に在るにも、福音を弁護して之を固むるにも、汝等皆我と共に恩寵に與ればなり。
as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I bear you on my heart, both in my bonds and in my defence and the confirmation of the gospel, as being all of you sharers in my grace.
8 蓋我が、キリストの腸を以て、如何許り汝等一同を戀慕ふかは、神我為に之を證し給ふ。
For God is my witness, how earnestly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
9 我が祈る所は、即ち汝等の愛が益智識と凡ての悟とに富み、
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all understanding;
10 汝等が一層善き事を弁へて、キリストの日に至るまで潔く科なくして、
that ye may prove the things that are excellent, in order that ye may be sincere and without offence unto the day of Christ;
11 イエズス、キリストによりて、神の光榮と讃美との為に、義の好果に満たされん事是なり。
filled with fruits of righteousness, which by Jesus Christ are to the glory and praise of God.
12 第一項 パウロ自身の音信 兄弟等よ、我汝等の知らん事を欲す、我身に関する事柄は、却て福音の裨益と成るに至りしことを。
Now I wish you, brethren, to know, that the things which have befallen me have rather conduced to the progress of the gospel;
13 即ち我が縲絏に遇へる事のキリストの為なるは、近衛兵の全営にも何處にも明に知られたり。
so that my bonds are manifest in Christ through the whole palace, and all other places;
14 斯て兄弟中の多數は、我縲絏の故に主を頼み奉りて、一層憚らず神の御言を語るに至れり。
and very many of our brethren in the Lord, assuming confidence from my chains, are more abundantly bold, fearlessly to preach the word.
15 實は猜と争との為にキリストを宣ぶる者もあれど、好意を以てする者もあり、
Some indeed do it in a spirit of envy and strife; but some also preach Christ with cordial good-will:
16 又福音を守護せん為に我が置かれたるを知りて、愛情よりする人もあれば、
the one indeed preach Christ out of contention, not with purity of intention, thinking to add affliction to my bonds:
17 眞心を有たず、縲絏に於る我困難を増さん事を思ひ、党派心よりキリストの事を説く者もあり。
but the others of love, knowing that I am exposed for the defence of the gospel.
18 然りとて何かあらん、如何様にもあれ、或は口實としてなりとも、或は眞心を以てなりとも、キリスト宣傳せられ給へば、我は之を喜ぶ、[以後も]復喜ばん。
What then? if Christ is preached in whatever manner it be, whether in pretext or reality, even in this do I rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
19 其は我汝等の祈とイエズス、キリストの霊の助力とによりて、此事の我救となるべきを知ればなり。
For I know that this shall issue in my salvation through your prayers, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20 是我が待てる所、希望せる所に叶へり、即ち我何に於ても耻づる事なかるべく、却て何時も然ある如く、今も亦活きても死しても、キリストは安全に我身に於て崇められ給ふべきなり。
according to my firm expectation and hope, that I shall be confounded by no event, but that with all boldness, as always hitherto, Christ shall now also be magnified in my body, whether by my life or death.
21 蓋我に取りて、活くるはキリストなり、死ぬるは益なり。
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22 若肉身に於て活くる事が我に事業の好果あるべくば、其孰を擇むべきかは我之を示さず、
But if it be his will, that I should live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my travail: and what to chuse I know not.
23 我は双方に挟まれり、立去りてキリストと共に在らん事を望む、是我に取りて最も善き事なり、
For I am in a strait between the two, having an earnest longing to be dissolved, and to be with Christ, for this is far, far better:
24 然れど我が肉身に留る事は、汝等の為に尚必要なり。
but to abide in the flesh may be more necessary for you.
25 斯く確信するが故に、我は汝等の信仰の進歩と喜悦とを來さん為に、汝等一同と共に留り、且逗留すべき事を知る。
And being so persuaded, I know that I shall stay and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith;
26 我再び汝等に至らば、キリスト、イエズスに於て、我に就きて汝等の誇る所は彌増すべし。
that your glorying may abound in Christ Jesus for me by my coming again unto you.
27 第二項 實用的勧告 汝等は唯キリストの福音に相應しく生活せよ、是我が或は至りて汝等を見る時も、或は離れて汝等の事を聞く時も、汝等が同一の精神、同一の心を以て立てる事と、福音の信仰の為に一致して戰ふ事と、
Only conduct yourselves worthily as becometh the gospel of Christ; that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one soul wrestling together in the faith of the gospel;
28 聊も敵に驚かされざる事とを知らん為なり。此驚かされざる事こそ、敵には亡滅の徴、汝等には救霊の徴にして、神より出づるものなれ。
and not dismayed on any occasion by your adversaries; which is indeed the proof of perdition to them, but of salvation to you, and that from God.
29 其は汝等キリストの為に賜はりたるは、唯之を信ずる事のみならず、又之が為に苦しむ事なればなり。
For this favour on the part of Christ is granted you, not only that ye should believe on him, but also that ye should suffer for his sake;
30 汝等の遇へる戰は、曾て我に於て見し所、又我に就きて聞きし所に等しきものなり。
experiencing the same conflict which ye have seen in me, and now hear to be in me.
