Proverbi 8
1 LA Sapienza non grida ella? E la Prudenza non dà ella fuori la sua voce?
Behold, wisdom calleth, and understanding sendeth forth her voice,
2 Ella sta in piè in capo de' luoghi elevati, in su la via, Ne' crocicchi.
On the top of high places, by the wayside, at the house where there are [many] paths doth she place herself.
3 Ella grida presso alle porte, alla bocca della città, All'entrata degli usci [delle case],
Alongside of gates, at the opening of the city, at the entrance of the town[-doors] doth she call loudly,
4 [Dicendo]: Io grido a voi, o uomini principali; E la mia voce [s'indirizza] ancora al volgo.
Unto you, O men, I call, and my voice [goeth forth] to the sons of men,
5 Semplici, intendete [che cosa sia] avvedimento; E [voi] stolti, intendete [che cosa sia] buon senno.
Learn, O ye simple, to understand prudence: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
6 Ascoltate; perciocchè io proporrò cose eccellenti; L'aprir delle mie labbra [sarà] di cose diritte.
Hear! for of noble things will I speak; and the opening of my lips shall be of what is equitable.
7 Conciossiachè il mio palato ragionerà di verità; Ma l'empietà [è] ciò che le mie labbra abbominano.
For truth uttereth my palate ever, and the abomination of my lips is wickedness.
8 Tutti i detti della mia bocca [son] con giustizia; In essi non [vi è] nulla di torto o di perverso.
In righteousness are all the sayings of my mouth, there is in them nothing crooked or perverse.
9 Essi tutti [son] diritti agl'intendenti, E bene addirizzati a coloro che hanno trovata la scienza.
They are all evident to the man of understanding, and correct to those that have obtained knowledge.
10 Ricevete il mio ammaestramento, e non dell'argento; E scienza, anzi che oro eletto.
Accept my correction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 Perciocchè la sapienza [è] migliore che le perle; E tutte le cose le più care non l'agguagliano.
For wisdom is better than pearls; and all the things that men wish for are not equal to her.
12 Io, la Sapienza, abito nell'avvedimento, E trovo la conoscenza de' buoni avvisi.
I wisdom dwell with prudence, and the knowledge of discreet thoughts do I discover.
13 Il timor del Signore [è] odiare il male; Io odio la superbia, e l'alterezza, e la via della malvagità, E la bocca perversa.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride and arrogance, and the evil way: and the mouth of perverseness do I hate.
14 A me [appartiene] il consiglio e la buona ragione; Io [son] la prudenza; a me [appartiene] la forza.
Mine are counsel and sound wisdom: I am understanding; mine is might.
15 Per me regnano i re, Ed i rettori fanno statuti di giustizia.
Through me do kings reign, and chieftains give decrees [in] righteousness.
16 Per me signoreggiano i signori, Ed i principi, [e] tutti i giudici della terra.
Through me do princes rule, and the nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
17 Io amo quelli che mi amano; E quelli che mi cercano mi troveranno.
I indeed love those that love me: and those that seek me earnestly shall find me.
18 Ricchezze e gloria [son] meco; Beni permanenti e giustizia.
Riches and honor are with me, yea, enduring wealth and righteousness.
19 Il mio frutto [è] migliore che oro, anzi che oro finissimo; E la mia rendita [migliore] che argento eletto.
My fruit is better than gold, and than fine gold; and my products, than choice silver.
20 Io cammino per la via della giustizia, In mezzo de' sentieri della dirittura;
On the road of righteousness do I walk firmly, in the midst the paths of justice:
21 Per fare eredare il [vero] essere a quelli che mi amano, Ed empiere i lor tesori.
That I may cause those that love me to inherit a lasting possession; and their treasures will I fill
22 IL Signore mi possedeva al principio della sua via, Avanti le sue opere, ab eterno.
The Lord created me as the beginning of his way, the first of his works from the commencement,
23 Io sono stata costituita in principato ab eterno, Dal principio, avanti che la terra fosse.
From eternity was I appointed chief, from the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.
24 Avanti che [fossero] abissi, Nè fonti, nè gorghi d'acque, io fui prodotta.
When there were yet no depths, was I brought forth; when there were yet no springs laden heavily with water.
25 Io fui prodotta innanzi che i monti fossero profondati, Avanti i colli;
Before the mountains were yet sunk down, before the hills was I brought forth:
26 Mentre egli non avea [ancora] fatta la terra, nè le campagne, Nè la sommità del terreno del mondo.
While as yet he had not made the land and open fields, nor the chief of the dust of the world.
27 Quando egli ordinava i cieli, io v'[era]; Quando egli disegnava il giro sopra la superficie dell'abisso;
When he prepared the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle over the face of the deep;
28 Quando egli fermava il cielo disopra; Quando egli fortificava le fonti dell'abisso;
When he fastened the skies above; when the springs of the deep became strong;
29 Quando egli poneva il suo termine al mare, Talchè le acque non possono trapassare il suo comandamento; Quando egli poneva i fondamenti della terra;
When he assigned to the sea his decree, that the waters should not transgress his order: when he established firmly the foundations of the earth:
30 Ed era appo lui[come] un allievo, Ed era le [sue] delizie tuttodì; Io mi sollazzava in ogni tempo nel suo cospetto.
Then was I near him, as a nursling: and I was day by day [his] delights, playing before him at all times;
31 Io mi sollazzo nella parte abitata della sua terra; Ed i miei diletti [sono] co' figliuoli degli uomini.
Playing in the world, his earth; and having my delights with the sons of men.
32 Ora dunque, figliuoli, ascoltatemi: Beati [coloro che] osservano le mie vie.
And now, O children [of men], hearken unto me! for happy those that observe my ways.
33 Ascoltate l'ammaestramento, e diventate savi, E non [lo] schifate.
Hear correction, and be wise, and reject it not.
34 Beato l'uomo che mi ascolta, Per vegliar tuttodì presso a' miei usci; Per istare a guardia agli stipiti delle mie porte.
Happy is the man that hearkeneth unto me, watching day by day at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35 Perciocchè chi mi trova trova la vita, Ed ottiene benevolenza dal Signore.
For he who findeth me findeth life, and he obtaineth favor from the Lord.
36 Ma chi pecca contro a me fa ingiuria all'anima sua; Tutti quelli che mi odiano amano la morte.
But he that sinneth against me doth violence to his own soul: all those that hate me love death.
