1 до коринтян 8
1 А щодо і́дольських жертов, то ми знаємо, що всі маємо знання́. Знання́ ж надимає, любов же будує!
Now as concerning things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 Коли хто ду́має, ніби щось знає, той нічого не знає ще так, як знати повинно.
And if any man thinketh that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 Коли ж любить хто Бога, той пі́знаний Ним.
But if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.
4 Тож про спожива́ння і́дольських же́ртов ми знаємо, що і́дол у світі ніщо, і що іншого Бога нема, окрім Бога Одно́го.
Therefore as concerning the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] no other God but one.
5 Бо хоч і існують так звані „боги“чи на небі, чи то на землі, як існує багато богів і багато панів,
For though there are that are called gods, whether in heaven or upon earth, (as there are gods many, and lords many)
6 та для нас один Бог — Отець, що з Нього походить усе, ми ж для Нього, і один Госпо́дь — Ісус Христос, що все сталося Ним, і ми Ним.
Yet to us [there is but] one God, the Father, from whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.
7 Та не всі таке мають знання́, бо де́які мають призвича́єння до ідола й досі, і їдять, як ідольську жертву, — і їхнє сумління, бувши недуже, спога́нюється.
But [there is] not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol to this hour eat [it] as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
8 Їжа ж нас до Бога не збли́жує: бо коли не їмо, то нічого не тратимо, а коли ми їмо, то не набуваєм нічо́го.
But food commendeth us not to God: for neither if we eat, are we the better; neither if we eat not, are we the worse.
9 Але стережіться, щоб ця ваша воля не стала якось за спотика́ння слаби́м!
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours should become a stumbling-block to them that are weak.
10 Коли бо хто бачить тебе, маю́чого знання́, як ти в і́дольській божни́ці сидиш за столом, чи ж сумління його, бувши слабе́, не буде спону́кане їсти ідольські жертви?
For if any man shall see thee, who hast knowledge, sit eating in the idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11 І через знання́ твоє згине недужий твій брат, що за нього Христос був умер!
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 Грі́шачи так проти братів та вражаючи їхнє слабе сумління, ви проти Христа грішите́.
But when ye thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
