ローマ人への手紙 1
1 神の福音のために選び分けられ、使徒として召されたキリスト・イエスのしもべパウロ、
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
2 ――この福音は、神がその預言者たちを通して、聖書において前から約束されたもので、
(Which he had promised before by his prophets in the holy scriptures, )
3 御子に関することです。御子は、肉によればダビデの子孫として生まれ、
Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
4 きよい御霊によれば、死者の中からの復活により、大能によって公に神の御子として示された方、私たちの主イエス・キリストです。
And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit (pneuma) of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
5 このキリストによって、私たちは恵みと使徒の務めを受けました。それは、御名のためにあらゆる国の人々の中に信仰の従順をもたらすためなのです。
By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 あなたがたも、それらの人々の中にあって、イエス・キリストによって召された人々です。――このパウロから、
Among whom are all of you also the called of Jesus Christ:
7 ローマにいるすべての、神に愛されている人々、召された聖徒たちへ。 私たちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから恵みと平安があなたがたの上にありますように。
To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8 まず第一に、あなたがたすべてのために、私はイエス・キリストによって私の神に感謝します。それは、あなたがたの信仰が全世界に言い伝えられているからです。
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
9 私が御子の福音を宣べ伝えつつ霊をもって仕えている神があかししてくださることですが、私はあなたがたのことを思わぬ時はなく、
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit (pneuma) in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
10 いつも祈りのたびごとに、神のみこころによって、何とかして、今度はついに道が開かれて、あなたがたのところに行けるようにと願っています。
Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
11 私があなたがたに会いたいと切に望むのは、御霊の賜物をいくらかでもあなたがたに分けて、あなたがたを強くしたいからです。
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end all of you may be established;
12 というよりも、あなたがたの間にいて、あなたがたと私との互いの信仰によって、ともに励ましを受けたいのです。
That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
13 兄弟たち。ぜひ知っておいていただきたい。私はあなたがたの中でも、ほかの国の人々の中で得たと同じように、いくらかの実を得ようと思って、何度もあなたがたのところに行こうとしたのですが、今なお妨げられているのです。
Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let until now, ) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
14 私は、ギリシヤ人にも未開人にも、知識のある人にも知識のない人にも、返さなければならない負債を負っています。
I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
15 ですから、私としては、ローマにいるあなたがたにも、ぜひ福音を伝えたいのです。
So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
16 私は福音を恥とは思いません。福音は、ユダヤ人をはじめギリシヤ人にも、信じるすべての人にとって、救いを得させる神の力です。
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 なぜなら、福音のうちには神の義が啓示されていて、その義は、信仰に始まり信仰に進ませるからです。「義人は信仰によって生きる。」と書いてあるとおりです。
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 というのは、不義をもって真理をはばんでいる人々のあらゆる不敬虔と不正に対して、神の怒りが天から啓示されているからです。
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 なぜなら、神について知りうることは、彼らに明らかであるからです。それは神が明らかにされたのです。
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has showed it unto them.
20 神の、目に見えない本性、すなわち神の永遠の力と神性は、世界の創造された時からこのかた、被造物によって知られ、はっきりと認められるのであって、彼らに弁解の余地はないのです。 (aïdios g126)
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (aïdios g126)
21 というのは、彼らは、神を知っていながら、その神を神としてあがめず、感謝もせず、かえってその思いはむなしくなり、その無知な心は暗くなったからです。
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 彼らは、自分では知者であると言いながら、愚かな者となり、
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 不滅の神の御栄えを、滅ぶべき人間や、鳥、獣、はうもののかたちに似た物と代えてしまいました。
And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
24 それゆえ、神は、彼らをその心の欲望のままに汚れに引き渡され、そのために彼らは、互いにそのからだをはずかしめるようになりました。
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
26 こういうわけで、神は彼らを恥ずべき情欲に引き渡されました。すなわち、女は自然の用を不自然なものに代え、
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 同じように、男も、女の自然な用を捨てて男どうしで情欲に燃え、男が男と恥ずべきことを行なうようになり、こうしてその誤りに対する当然の報いを自分の身に受けているのです。
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 また、彼らが神を知ろうとしたがらないので、神は彼らを良くない思いに引き渡され、そのため彼らは、してはならないことをするようになりました。
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 彼らは、あらゆる不義と悪とむさぼりと悪意とに満ちた者、ねたみと殺意と争いと欺きと悪だくみとでいっぱいになった者、陰口を言う者、
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, ill will; whisperers,
30 そしる者、神を憎む者、人を人と思わぬ者、高ぶる者、大言壮語する者、悪事をたくらむ者、親に逆らう者、
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 わきまえのない者、約束を破る者、情け知らずの者、慈愛のない者です。
Without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, refusing to reconcile, unmerciful:
32 彼らは、そのようなことを行なえば、死罪に当たるという神の定めを知っていながら、それを行なっているだけでなく、それを行なう者に心から同意しているのです。
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
