ローマ人への手紙 2
1 ですから、すべて他人をさばく人よ。あなたに弁解の余地はありません。あなたは、他人をさばくことによって、自分自身を罪に定めています。さばくあなたが、それと同じことを行なっているからです。
Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whosoever you are that judge: for wherein you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you that judge do the same things.
2 私たちは、そのようなことを行なっている人々に下る神のさばきが正しいことを知っています。
But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 そのようなことをしている人々をさばきながら、自分で同じことをしている人よ。あなたは、自分は神のさばきを免れるのだとでも思っているのですか。
And think you this, O man, that judge them which do such things, and do the same, that you shall escape the judgment of God?
4 それとも、神の慈愛があなたを悔い改めに導くことも知らないで、その豊かな慈愛と忍耐と寛容とを軽んじているのですか。
Or despise you the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
5 ところが、あなたは、かたくなさと悔い改めのない心のゆえに、御怒りの日、すなわち、神の正しいさばきの現われる日の御怒りを自分のために積み上げているのです。
But after your hardness and refusing to repent heart treasure up unto yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 神は、ひとりひとりに、その人の行ないに従って報いをお与えになります。
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: (aiōnios g166)
8 党派心を持ち、真理に従わないで不義に従う者には、怒りと憤りを下されるのです。
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 患難と苦悩とは、ユダヤ人をはじめギリシヤ人にも、悪を行なうすべての者の上に下り、
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 栄光と誉れと平和は、ユダヤ人をはじめギリシヤ人にも、善を行なうすべての者の上にあります。
But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 神にはえこひいきなどはないからです。
For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 律法なしに罪を犯した者はすべて、律法なしに滅び、律法の下にあって罪を犯した者はすべて、律法によってさばかれます。
For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 それは、律法を聞く者が神の前に正しいのではなく、律法を行なう者が正しいと認められるからです。
(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 ――律法を持たない異邦人が、生まれつきのままで律法の命じる行ないをするばあいは、律法を持たなくても、自分自身が自分に対する律法なのです。
For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 彼らはこのようにして、律法の命じる行ないが彼らの心に書かれていることを示しています。彼らの良心もいっしょになってあかしし、また、彼らの思いは互いに責め合ったり、また、弁明し合ったりしています。――
Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another; )
16 私の福音によれば、神のさばきは、神がキリスト・イエスによって人々の隠れたことをさばかれる日に、行なわれるのです。
In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
17 もし、あなたが自分をユダヤ人ととなえ、律法を持つことに安んじ、神を誇り、
Behold, you are called a Jew, and rest in the law, and make your boast of God,
18 みこころを知り、なすべきことが何であるかを律法に教えられてわきまえ、
And know his will, and approve the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
19 また、知識と真理の具体的な形として律法を持っているため、盲人の案内人、やみの中にいる者の光、愚かな者の導き手、幼子の教師だと自任しているのなら、
And are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which have the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21 どうして、人を教えながら、自分自身を教えないのですか。盗むなと説きながら、自分は盗むのですか。
You therefore which teach another, teach you not yourself? you that preach a man should not steal, do you steal?
22 姦淫するなと言いながら、自分は姦淫するのですか。偶像を忌みきらいながら、自分は神殿の物をかすめるのですか。
You that say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? you that abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege?
23 律法を誇りとしているあなたが、どうして律法に違反して、神を侮るのですか。
You that make your boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonour you God?
24 これは、「神の名は、あなたがたのゆえに、異邦人の中でけがされている。」と書いてあるとおりです。
For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
25 もし律法を守るなら、割礼には価値があります。しかし、もしあなたが律法にそむいているなら、あなたの割礼は、無割礼になったのです。
For circumcision verily profits, if you keep the law: but if you be a breaker of the law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision.
26 もし割礼を受けていない人が律法の規定を守るなら、割礼を受けていなくても、割礼を受けている者とみなされないでしょうか。
Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
27 また、からだに割礼を受けていないで律法を守る者が、律法の文字と割礼がありながら律法にそむいているあなたを、さばくことにならないでしょうか。
And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfill the law, judge you, who by the letter and circumcision do transgress the law?
28 外見上のユダヤ人がユダヤ人なのではなく、外見上のからだの割礼が割礼なのではありません。
For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 かえって人目に隠れたユダヤ人がユダヤ人であり、文字ではなく、御霊による、心の割礼こそ割礼です。その誉れは、人からではなく、神から来るものです。
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, (pneuma) and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
