Romani 4
1 CHE diremo adunque che il padre nostro Abrahamo abbia ottenuto secondo la carne?
What shall we say then, that Abraham our father hath found concerning the flesh?
2 Perciocchè, se Abrahamo è stato giustificato per le opere, egli ha di che gloriarsi; ma egli non [ha nulla di che gloriarsi] appo Iddio.
For if Abraham were iustified by workes, he hath wherein to reioyce, but not with God.
3 Imperocchè, che dice la scrittura? Or Abrahamo credette a Dio, e [ciò] gli fu imputato a giustizia.
For what saith the Scripture? Abraham beleeued God, and it was counted to him for righteousnesse.
4 Ora, a colui che opera, il premio non è messo in conto per grazia, ma per debito.
Nowe to him that worketh, the wages is not counted by fauour, but by dette:
5 Ma, a colui che non opera, anzi crede in colui che giustifica l'empio, la sua fede gli è imputata a giustizia.
But to him that worketh not, but beleeueth in him that iustifieth the vngodly, his faith is counted for righteousnesse.
6 Come ancora Davide dice la beatitudine [esser] dell'uomo, a cui Iddio imputa la giustizia, senza opere, [dicendo]:
Euen as Dauid declareth the blessednesse of the man, vnto whom God imputeth righteousnes without workes, saying,
7 Beati coloro, le cui iniquità son rimesse, e i cui peccati son coperti.
Blessed are they, whose iniquities are forgiuen, and whose sinnes are couered.
8 Beato l'uomo, a cui il Signore non avrà imputato peccato.
Blessed is the man, to whom the Lord imputeth not sinne.
9 Ora dunque, questa beatitudine [cade] ella [sol] nella circoncisione, ovvero anche nell'incirconcisine? poichè noi diciamo che la fede fu imputata ad Abrahamo a giustizia.
Came this blessednesse then vpon the circumcision onely, or vpon the vncircumcision also? For we say, that faith was imputed vnto Abraham for righteousnesse.
10 In che modo dunque [gli] fu [ella] imputata? mentre egli era nella circoncisione, o [mentre era] nell'incirconcisione? non [mentre era] nella circoncisione, anzi nell'incirconcisione.
Howe was it then imputed? when he was circumcised, or vncircumcised? not when he was cricumcised, but when he was vncircumcised.
11 Poi ricevette il segno della circoncisione, suggello della giustizia della fede, [la quale egli avea avuta, mentre egli era] nell'incirconcisione, affin d'esser padre di tutti coloro che credono, [essendo] nell'incirconcisione, acciocchè ancora a loro sia imputata la giustizia;
After, he receiued the signe of circumcision, as the seale of the righteousnesse of ye faith which he had, when he was vncircumcised, that he should be the father of all them that beleeue, not being circumcised, that righteousnesse might be imputed to them also,
12 e padre della circoncisione, a rispetto di coloro che non solo son della circoncisione, ma eziandio seguono le pedate della fede del padre nostro Abrahamo, la quale [egli ebbe mentre era] nell'incirconcisione.
And the father of circumcision, not vnto them onely which are of the circumcision, but vnto them also that walke in the steppes of the faith of our father Abraham, which he had when he was vncircumcised.
13 Perciocchè la promessa d'essere erede del mondo non [fu fatta] ad Abrahamo, od alla sua progenie per la legge, ma per la giustizia della fede.
For the promise that he should be the heire of the worlde, was not giuen to Abraham, or to his seede, through the Lawe, but through the righteousnesse of faith.
14 Poichè, se coloro [che son] della legge [sono] eredi, la fede [è] svanita, e la promessa annullata;
For if they which are of the Lawe, be heires, faith is made voide, and the promise is made of none effect.
15 perciocchè la legge opera ira; ma dove non è legge, eziandio non [vi è] trasgressione.
For the Lawe causeth wrath: for where no Lawe is, there is no transgression.
16 Perciò, è per fede affin d'esser per grazia; acciocchè la promessa sia ferma a tutta la progenie; non a quella solamente [ch'è] della legge, ma eziandio a quella [ch'è] della fede d'Abrahamo; il quale (secondo che è scritto:
Therefore it is by faith, that it might come by grace, and the promise might be sure to all the seede, not to that onely which is of the Lawe: but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of vs all,
17 Io ti ho costituito padre di molte nazioni), è padre di tutti noi davanti a Dio, a cui egli credette, il qual fa vivere i morti, e chiama le cose che non sono, come se fossero.
(As it is written, I haue made thee a father of many nations) euen before God whom he beleeued, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those thinges which be not, as though they were.
18 Il quale contro a speranza in isperanza credette; per divenir padre di molte nazioni, secondo che [gli] era stato detto: Così sarà la tua progenie.
Which Abraham aboue hope, beleeued vnder hope, that he should be the father of many nations: according to that which was spoken to him, So shall thy seede be.
19 E, non essendo punto debole nella fede, non riguardò al suo corpo già ammortito, essendo egli d'età presso di cent'anni; nè all'ammortimento della matrice di Sara.
And he not weake in the faith, considered not his owne bodie, which was nowe dead, being almost an hundreth yeere olde, neither the deadnes of Saraes wombe.
20 E non istette in dubbio per incredulità intorno alla promessa di Dio; anzi fu fortificato per la fede, dando gloria a Dio.
Neither did he doubt of the promise of God through vnbeliefe, but was strengthened in the faith, and gaue glorie to God,
21 Ed essendo pienamente accertato che ciò ch'egli avea promesso, era anche potente da farlo.
Being fully assured that he which had promised, was also able to doe it.
22 Laonde ancora [ciò] gli fu imputato a giustizia.
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousnesse.
23 Ora, non per lui solo è scritto che gli fu imputato.
Nowe it is not written for him onely, that it was imputed to him for righteousnesse,
24 Ma ancora per noi, ai quali sarà imputato; i quali crediamo in colui che ha suscitato da' morti Gesù, nostro Signore.
But also for vs, to whom it shalbe imputed for righteousnesse, which beleeue in him that raised vp Iesus our Lord from the dead,
25 Il quale è stato dato per le nostre offese, ed è risuscitato per la nostra giustificazione.
Who was deliuered to death for our sinnes, and is risen againe for our iustification.
