Matthieu 6
1 «Gardez-vous de pratiquer votre justice devant les hommes pour en être regardés; autrement il n'y a pas pour vous de récompense de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.»
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be observed by them: otherwise ye will have no reward from your Father, who is in heaven.
2 «Quand donc tu feras l'aumône, ne fais pas sonner de la trompette devant toi, comme font les hypocrites dans les synagogues et dans les rues pour être glorifiés des hommes. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont reçu leur récompense.
Therefore when thou dost an alms-deed, do not proclaim it abroad, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may be applauded by men. Verily I tell you, they have their reward.
3 Pour toi, quand tu fais l'aumône, que ta main gauche ignore ce que fait ta main droite,
But when thou givest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth:
4 en sorte que ton aumône se fasse dans le secret, et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te donnera ce qui t'est dû.»
that thine alms may be in secret, and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will himself reward thee openly.
5 «Lorsque vous prierez, ne soyez pas comme ces hypocrites qui aiment, faisant leur prière, à stationner debout dans les synagogues et dans les angles des places publiques pour être bien en évidence. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont reçu leur récompense.
And when thou prayest, be not like the hypocrites; for they love to pray in public assemblies, and in the corners of the streets, that they may be taken notice of by men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
6 Toi quand tu pries, entre dans ta chambre, ferme ta porte, prie ton Père qui est là, dans le secret, et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te donnera ce qui t'est dû.»
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.
7 En priant, ne multipliez pas les paroles, comme font les païens; ils s'imaginent, en effet, que c'est à force de paroles qu'ils se feront exaucer.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathens do, for they think they shall be heard for their speaking much:
8 Ne les imitez point; car votre Père sait de quoi vous avez besoin avant que vous le lui demandiez.
be not ye therefore like them; for your Father knoweth what ye have need of before ye ask Him.
9 Voici donc comment vous devez prier: «Notre Père, qui es dans les cieux!» «Que ton nom soit sanctifié!»
After this manner therefore pray ye,
10 «Que ton Règne vienne!» «Que ta volonté soit faite sur la terre comme dans le ciel!
"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done, as in heaven so also upon earth;
11 Donne-nous aujourd'hui notre pain quotidien!»
give us this day our daily bread;
12 «Et remets-nous nos dettes comme nous-mêmes remettons les leurs à nos débiteurs.»
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
13 «Et ne nous induis pas en tentation, mais délivre-nous du Malin »
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen."
14 «Si, en effet, vous remettez aux hommes leurs offenses, votre Père céleste vous remettra aussi les vôtres;
For if ye forgive men their faults, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 mais si vous ne remettez point aux hommes leurs offenses, votre Père, non plus, ne vous remettra pas vos offenses.»
but if ye forgive not men their transgressions, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16 «Quand vous jeûnez, ne prenez pas, comme les hypocrites, un air accablé; ils se font des visages tout défaits, afin que leur jeûne attire les regards. En vérité, je vous le dis: ils ont reçu leur récompense!
And when ye fast, be not, like the hypocrites, of a gloomy countenance; for they disfigure their faces, that they may be observed by men to fast: I tell you, they have indeed their reward.
17 Toi, quand tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave ton visage
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head and wash thy face;
18 afin que les hommes ne s'aperçoivent pas que tu jeûnes, mais seulement ton Père qui est là, dans le secret, et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret te donnera ce qui t'est dû.»
that thou mayst not appear unto men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.
19 «Ne vous amassez point de trésors sur la terre où le ver et la rouille rongent et où les voleurs pénètrent et dérobent.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 Mais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel, où il n'y a ni ver, ni rouille qui rongent, ni voleurs qui pénètrent et dérobent.
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 Car là où est ton trésor, là sera aussi ton coeur.»
for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 La lampe du corps est l'oeil; si ton oeil n'a rien qui le trouble, ton corps entier sera dans la lumière;
The eye is the light of the body: if therefore thine eye be clear, thy whole body will be light;
23 si ton oeil est en mauvais état, ton corps entier sera dans les ténèbres. Si donc la lumière qui est en toi est ténèbres, combien seront profondes ces ténèbres!»
but if thine eye be bad, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 «Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres; ou bien, en effet, il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre; ou bien il s'attachera au premier et méprisera le second. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mamôn.
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or at lest he will be attached to the one, and neglect the other: ye cannot serve God and mammon:
25 Voilà pourquoi je vous dis de ne pas vous inquiéter: pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez ou de ce que vous boirez; pour votre corps de quoi vous vous vêtirez. La vie n'est-elle pas plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement.
therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than raiment?
26 Regardez les oiseaux du ciel; ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent, ni ne recueillent en des greniers; et votre Père céleste les nourrit. Ne valez-vous pas beaucoup plus qu'eux?
Look at the birds of the air; they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns: and yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye preferable to them?
27 Qui de vous peut, par toutes ses préoccupations, ajouter une seule coudée à la durée de sa vie.
And which of you by all his thought can add one cubit to his stature?
28 Et quant au vêtement, pourquoi vous en inquiéter? Observez comment croissent les lis des champs. Ils ne travaillent ni ne filent.
And why are ye sollicitous about raiment? consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I tell you,
29 Cependant, je vous le déclare, Salomon lui-même dans toute sa gloire, n'était pas vêtu comme l'un deux.
that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Si donc cette herbe des champs qui existe aujourd'hui et qui demain sera jetée au four, Dieu la revêt de la sorte, combien plutôt vous-mêmes, hommes de petite foi!»
Now if God so clothe the grass of the field, which is growing to-day, and to-morrow is cast into the fire, will He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 «Donc, ne vous inquiétez pas, disant: «Que mangerons-nous?» ou: «que boirons-nous?» ou: «comment nous vêtirons-nous?»
Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or how shall we be clothed?
32 Oui, tout cela les païens s'en enquièrent. Or, votre Père céleste sait bien que vous avez besoin de tout cela.
(things which the heathens are so inquisitive after) for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these.
33 Cherchez premièrement le Royaume et sa justice et toutes ces choses vous seront données par surcroît.»
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these shall be superadded unto you.
34 «Donc, ne vous inquiétez pas du lendemain; le lendemain aura soin de lui-même. A chaque jour suffit sa peine.»
Be not therefore sollicitous about the morrow; for the morrow will require thought for its own affairs: sufficient to each day is its own trouble.
