Matthieu 5
1 Voyant ces multitudes, il gravit la montagne, il y fit sa demeure; ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui;
And seeing the multitudes He went up to a mountain, and when He was set down, His disciples came to Him,
2 et, ouvrant la bouche, il les enseignait, disant:
and He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
3 «Heureux les pauvres en esprit, parce que le Royaume des cieux est à eux!»
Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 «Heureux ceux qui sont dans l'affliction, parce qu'ils seront consolés!»
Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.
5 «Heureux ceux qui sont doux, parce qu’ils auront la terre en héritage!»
Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.
6 «Heureux ceux qui ont faim et soif de la justice, parce qu'ils seront rassasiés!»
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be satisfied.
7 «Heureux les miséricordieux, parce qu'ils obtiendront miséricorde!»
Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy.
8 «Heureux ceux qui ont le coeur pur, parce qu'ils verront Dieu!»
Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.
9 «Heureux les pacifiques, parce qu'ils seront appelés fils de Dieu!»
Blessed are the peace-makers; for they shall be called the children of God.
10 «Heureux ceux qui sont persécutés à cause de la justice, parce que le Royaume des cieux est à eux!»
Blessed are they, who are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 «Heureux serez-vous quand on vous outragera et vous persécutera et qu'on dira faussement toute sorte de mal de vous à cause de moi.
Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake:
12 Réjouissez-vous, soyez transportés de joie, parce que votre récompense sera grande dans les cieux; c'est ainsi, en effet, qu'on a persécuté les prophètes qui vous ont précédés.»
rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great will be your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets, that were before you.
13 «Vous êtes le sel de la terre; si le sel s'affadit, avec quoi lui rendra-t-on sa saveur? Il n'est plus bon à rien, sinon à être jeté dehors et foulé aux pieds par les passants.»
Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt be grown insipid, wherewith shall it be seasoned? it is no longer fit for any thing, but to be thrown out of doors, and trodden under foot.
14 «Vous êtes la lumière du monde; une ville ne peut être cachée quand elle est située sur une montagne.
Ye are the light of the world: a city, that is situated on a hill, cannot be hid.
15 On n'allume pas une lampe pour la mettre sous le boisseau, mais on la met sur le pied-de-lampe et elle luit à tous ceux qui sont dans la maison.
Nor do men light a candle, to put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick: and then it giveth light to all in the house.
16 Qu'ainsi votre lumière luise devant les hommes, afin qu'ils voient vos bonnes oeuvres et glorifient votre Père qui est dans les cieux.»
So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father, who is in heaven.
17 «Ne pensez pas que je sois venu détruire la Loi ou les Prophètes; je ne suis pas venu pour détruire, mais pour accomplir;
Think not that I am come to abrogate the law, or the prophets: I am not come to abolish, but to compleat them:
18 car je vous le dis en vérité: jusqu'à ce que le ciel et la terre aient passé, il ne disparaîtra de la Loi, ni la plus petite lettre, ni un seul petit traita qui n'ait reçu sa pleine réalisation.
for verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot nor one tittle shall pass from the law, till all be compleated.
19 Et celui qui annulera un de ces commandements, même le moindre et enseignera les hommes à le faire, sera réputé le moindre dans le Royaume des cieux; mais celui qui les pratiquera et les enseignera, celui-là sera réputé grand dans le Royaume des cieux.»
Whosoever therefore shall break one of the left of these commandments, and thereby teach men so to do, he shall be esteemed very little in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do as well as teach them, he shall be accounted great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 «Aussi je vous le dis: Si votre justice n'est pas supérieure à celle des Scribes et des Pharisiens vous n'entrerez point dans le Royaume des cieux.»
For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceed that of the scribes and pharisees, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 «Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit aux hommes d'autrefois: «Tu ne tueras point; » celui qui aura tué sera passible du jugement.
Ye have heard, that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever committeth murder, shall be liable to the judgment:
22 Eh bien, je vous dis, moi: Quiconque se met en colère contre son frère sera passible du jugement. Celui qui dira à son frère: Raca, sera passible de la justice du Sanhédrin. Celui qui lui dira: fou, sera passible de la Géhenne du feu.» (Geenna g1067)
but I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be liable to the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be obnoxious to the council; but whosoever shall say, "Thou fool," shall be in danger of hell-fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 «Lors donc que tu présentes ton offrande à l'autel et que là tu te souviens que ton frère a quelque chose contre toi,
Therefore, if thou bring thine offering to the altar, and there remembrest that thy brother hath any complaint against thee;
24 laisse là ton offrande, devant l'autel, et va d'abord te réconcilier avec ton frère; et puis, viens présenter ton offrande.»
leave thy gift there before the altar, and go and first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 «Mets-toi d'accord avec ton adversaire, promptement, pendant que tu es encore en chemin avec lui, de peur que cet adversaire ne te livre au juge, et le juge à celui qui exécute ses sentences, et que tu ne sois jeté en prison.
Be friends with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; least the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison:
26 Tu n'en sortiras pas, je te le dis en vérité, que tu n'aies payé jusqu'au dernier quadrant.»
verily, I say unto thee, thou shalt not come out from thence, till thou hast paid the very last farthing.
27 Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit: «Tu ne commettras point d'adultère»
Ye have heard, that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 Eh bien, je vous dis, moi: quiconque regarde une femme avec convoitise a déjà, dans son coeur, commis l'adultère avec elle.»
but I tell you, that whosoever looketh on a woman, so as to lust after her, hath already debauched her in his heart.
29 «Si ton oeil droit est pour toi une cause de chute, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi. Il vaut mieux pour toi qu'un de tes membres périsse et que ton corps tout entier ne soit pas jeté dans la Géhenne. (Geenna g1067)
And therefore if thy right eye cause thee to offend, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is better for thee that one part of thee perish, than that thy whole body should be cast into hell: (Geenna g1067)
30 Et si ta main droite est pour toi une cause de chute, coupe-la et jette-la loin de toi; il vaut mieux pour toi qu'un de tes membres périsse et que ton corps tout entier n'aille pas dans la Géhenne. (Geenna g1067)
and if thy right hand cause thee to offend, cut it off and cast it from thee; for it is better for thee that one of thy limbs should perish, than that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
31 Il a été dit: «Celui qui répudie sa femme doit lui remettre un acte de divorce.»
And it has been said, whosoever would put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce:
32 Eh bien, je vous dis, moi: quiconque répudie sa femme — excepté pour cause d'infidélité — l'expose à commettre un adultère et celui qui épouse une femme divorcée, commet un adultère.»
but I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except on account of whoredom, tempteth her to commit adultery; and if any man marry her that is divorced, he committeth adultery.
33 Vous avez encore entendu qu'il a été dit aux hommes d'autrefois: «Tu ne te parjureras pas, mais tu t'acquitteras envers le Seigneur de tes serments.»
Again, ye have heard, that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 Eh bien, je vous dis, moi, de ne prêter aucune sorte de serment; ne jurez point par le ciel, car il est le trône de Dieu;
but I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
35 «par la terre», car elle est l'escabeau de ses pieds; «par Jérusalem», car elle est une ville du Grand Roi.
nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King: neither shalt thou swear by thy head,
36 Ne jure pas non plus «sur ta tête», car tu ne peux faire blanc ou noir un seul de tes cheveux.
for thou canst not make one hair of it white or black:
37 Que votre langage soit: oui, oui; ou: non, non. Ce qu'on ajoute vient du Malin.»
but let your conversation be yea, yea; no, no; for whatever is more than these, cometh from the evil one.
38 Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit: «Oe il pour oeil, dent pour dent.»
Ye have heard, that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 Eh bien, je vous dis, moi: ne résistez point au méchant; au contraire, si quelqu'un te frappe à la joue droite, présente-lui aussi l'autre.
but I say unto you, Set not yourselves against him that injures you, but if any one smite thee on thy right cheek, rather turn to him the other also:
40 Si quelqu'un veut t'appeler en justice et t'enlever ta tunique, abandonne-lui aussi le manteau;
and if any one would go to law with thee, to take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also, rather than strive with him:
41 et si quelqu'un veut te faire faire une corvée d'un mille, fais-en deux pour lui.»
and if any one shall force thee one mile, go with him two.
42 «A qui te demande, donne; de qui veut t'emprunter, ne te détourne pas.»
Give to him that asketh thee, and him, that would borrow of thee, turn not away.
43 «Vous avez entendu qu'il a été dit: «Tu aimeras ton prochain et tu haïras ton ennemi.»
Ye have heard, that it has been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy:
44 Eh bien, je vous dis, moi: aimez vos ennemis, et priez pour ceux qui vous persécutent,
but I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that abuse you and persecute you;
45 afin que vous deveniez fils de votre Père qui est dans les cieux, car il fait lever son soleil sur les mauvais et sur les bons, et descendre la pluie sur les justes et sur les injustes.
that ye may be the children of your heavenly Father; for He causeth his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain upon the just and the unjust.
46 Si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment quelle récompense avez-vous? Les publicains ne le font-ils pas aussi?
For if ye love only them that love you, what reward do ye expect? do not even the publicans the same?
47 Et si pour vos frères seuls, vous avez un bon accueil, en quoi dépassez-vous l'ordinaire? Les païens ne le font-ils pas aussi?»
and if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not the publicans so likewise?
48 «Soyez donc, vous, parfaits comme votre Père céleste est parfait.»
Be ye therefore perfect in love and goodness, as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.
