Ruth 4
1 Then went Boaz vp to the gate, and sate there, and beholde, the kinsman, of whome Boaz had spoken, came by: and he sayd, Ho, snch one, come, sit downe here. And he turned, and sate downe.
Booz donc monta à la porte, et s'y assit. Et voici, celui qui avait le droit de retrait lignager, [et] duquel Booz avait parlé, passait; et Booz [lui] dit: Toi un tel, détourne-toi, [et] assieds-toi ici. Et il se détourna, et s'assit.
2 Then he tooke ten men of the Elders of the citie, and sayd, Sit ye downe here. And they sate downe.
Et [Booz] prit dix hommes d'entre les Anciens de la ville, et leur dit: Asseyez-vous ici; et ils s'assirent.
3 And he said vnto ye kinsman, Naomi, that is come againe out of ye countrey of Moab, wil sell a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelechs.
Puis il dit à celui qui avait le droit de retrait lignager: Nahomi qui est retournée du pays de Moab, a vendu la portion du champ qui appartenait à notre frère Eli-mélec.
4 And I thought to aduertise thee, saying, Buy it before the assistants, and before the Elders of my people. If thou wilt redeeme it, redeeme it: but if thou wilt not redeeme it, tel me: for I know that there is none besides thee to redeeme it, and I am after thee. Then he answered, I wil redeeme it.
Et j'ai pensé qu'il fallait te le faire savoir, et te dire: Acquiers-la en la présence de ceux qui sont ici assis, et en la présence des Anciens de mon peuple; si tu la veux racheter par droit de retrait lignager, rachète-la; mais si tu ne la veux pas racheter, déclare-le-moi, afin que je le sache: car il n'y en a point d'autre que toi qui la puisse racheter par droit de retrait lignager, et je suis après toi. Il répondit: Je la rachèterai par droit de retrait lignager.
5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou mnst also buy it of Ruth the Moabitesse the wife of the dead, to stirre vp the name of the dead, vpon his inheritance.
Et Booz dit: Au jour que tu acquerras le champ de la main de Nahomi, tu l'acquerras aussi de Ruth la Moabite, femme au défunt, pour susciter le nom du défunt dans son héritage.
6 And the kinsman answered, I can not redeeme it, lest I destroy mine owne inheritance: redeeme my right to thee, for I can not redeeme it.
Et celui qui avait le droit de retrait lignager dit: Je ne saurais le racheter, de peur que je ne dissipe mon héritage; toi, prends pour toi le droit de retrait lignager que j'y ai; car je ne saurais le racheter.
7 Now this was the maner beforetime in Israel, concerning redeeming and changing, for to stablish all things: a man did plucke off his shooe, and gaue it his neighbour, and this was a sure witnes in Israel.
Or c'était une ancienne coutume en Israël, qu'au cas de droit de retrait lignager et de subrogation, pour confirmer la chose l'homme déchaussait son soulier, et le donnait à son prochain, et c'était là un témoignage en Israël [qu'on cédait son droit].
8 Therefore the kinsman sayd to Boas, Buy it for thee: and he drew off his shooe.
Quand donc celui qui avait le droit de retrait lignager eut dit à Booz: Acquiers-le pour toi; il déchaussa son soulier.
9 And Boaz sayd vnto the Elders and vnto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I haue bought all that was Elimelechs, and all that was Chilions and Mahlons, of the hand of Naomi.
Et Booz dit aux Anciens et à tout le peuple: Vous êtes aujourd'hui témoins que j'ai acquis de la main de Nahomi, tout ce qui appartenait à Eli-mélec, et tout ce qui était à Kiljon, et à Mahlon.
10 And moreouer, Ruth the Moabitesse the wife of Mahlon, haue I bought to be my wife, to stirre vp the name of the dead vpon his inheritance, and that the name of the dead be not put out from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
Et que je me suis aussi acquis pour femme Ruth la Moabite, femme de Mahlon, pour susciter le nom du défunt dans son héritage, afin que le nom du défunt ne soit point retranché d'entre ses frères, et de la ville de son habitation; vous en êtes témoins aujourd'hui.
11 And all the people that were in the gate, and the Elders sayd, We are witnesses: the Lord make the wife that commeth into thine house, like Rahel and like Leah, which twaine did build the house of Israel: and that thou mayest doe worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Beth-lehem,
Et tout le peuple qui était à la porte, et les Anciens dirent: Nous en sommes témoins. L'Eternel fasse que la femme qui entre dans ta maison, soit comme Rachel, et comme Léa, qui toutes deux ont édifié la maison d'Israël; et porte-toi vertueusement en Ephrat, et rends ton nom célèbre dans Bethléhem;
12 And that thine house be like the house of Pharez (whom Thamar bare vnto Iudah) of the seede which the Lord shall giue thee of this yong woman.
Et que de la postérité que l'Eternel te donnera de cette jeune femme, ta maison soit comme la maison de Phares, que Tamar enfanta à Juda!
13 So Boaz tooke Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in vnto her, the Lord gaue that she conceiued, and bare a sonne.
Ainsi Booz prit Ruth, et elle lui fut pour femme; et il vint vers elle; et l'Eternel lui fit la grâce de concevoir, et elle enfanta un fils.
14 And the women sayd vnto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, and his name shalbe continued in Israel.
Et les femmes dirent à Nahomi: Béni soit l'Eternel qui n'a pas [voulu] te laisser manquer aujourd'hui d'un homme qui eût le droit de retrait lignager; et que son nom soit réclamé en Israël.
15 And this shall bring thy life againe, and cherish thine olde age: for thy daughter in lawe which loueth thee, hath borne vnto him, and she is better to thee then seuen sonnes.
Et qu'il te soit pour te faire revenir l'âme, et pour soutenir ta vieillesse; car ta belle-fille, qui t'aime, a enfanté cet enfant, et elle te vaut mieux que sept fils.
16 And Naomi tooke the childe, and layde it in her lap, and became nource vnto it.
Alors Nahomi prit l'enfant, et le mit dans son sein, et elle lui tenait lieu de nourrice.
17 And the women her neighbours gaue it a name, saying, There is a childe borne to Naomi, and called the name thereof Obed: the same was the father of Ishai, the father of Dauid.
Et les voisines lui donnèrent un nom, en disant: Un fils est né à Nahomi; et l'appelèrent Obed. Ce fut le père d'Isaï, père de David.
18 These now are ye generations of Pharez: Pharez begate Hezron,
Or ce sont ici les générations de Pharez. Pharez engendra Hetsron;
19 And Hezron begate Ram, and Ram begate Amminadab,
Hetsron engendra Ram; et Ram engendra Hamminadab;
20 And Amminadab begate Nahshon, and Nahshon begate Salmah,
Et Hamminadab engendra Nahasson; et Nahasson engendra Salmon;
21 And Salmon begate Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
Et Salmon engendra Booz; et Booz engendra Obed;
22 And Obed begate Ishai, and Ishai begate Dauid.
Et Obed engendra Isaï, et Isaï engendra David.
