1 Samuel 1

1 There was a man of one of the two Ramathaim Zophim, of mount Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the sonne of Ieroham, the sonne of Elihu, the sonne of Tohu, the sonne of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

Il y avait un homme de Ramathajim Tsophim, de la montagne d'Ephraïm, le nom duquel était Elkana, fils de Jéroham, fils d'Elihu, fils de Tohu, fils de Tsuph Ephratien;

2 And he had two wiues: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

Qui avait deux femmes, dont l'une s'appelait Anne, et l'autre Pennina. Et Pennina avait des enfants, mais Anne n'en avait point.

3 And this man went vp out of his citie euery yeere, to worship and to sacrifice vnto the Lord of hostes in Shiloh, where were the two sonnes of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas Priests of the Lord.

Or cet homme-là montait tous les ans, de sa ville pour adorer l'Eternel des armées, et lui sacrifier à Silo; et là étaient les deux fils d'Héli, Hophni et Phinées, Sacrificateurs de l'Eternel.

4 And on a day, when Elkanah sacrificed, he gaue to Peninnah his wife and to all her sonnes and daughters portions,

Et le jour qu'Elkana sacrifiait il donnait des portions à Pennina sa femme, et à tous les fils et filles qu'il avait d'elle.

5 But vnto Hannah he gaue a worthy portion: for he loued Hannah, and the Lord had made her barren.

Mais il donnait à Anne une portion honorable; car il aimait Anne; mais l'Eternel l'avait rendue stérile.

6 And her aduersarie vexed her sore, forasmuch as she vpbraided her, because the Lord had made her barren.

Et [Pennina] qui lui portait envie, la piquait, même fort aigrement, car elle faisait un grand bruit de ce que l'Eternel l'avait rendue stérile.

7 (And so did he yeere by yeere) and as oft as she went vp to the house of the Lord, thus she vexed her, that she wept and did not eate.

[Elkana] faisait [donc] ainsi tous les ans. Mais quand Anne montait en la maison de l'Eternel, [Pennina] la chagrinait en cette même manière, et Anne pleurait, et ne mangeait point.

8 Then sayd Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thine heart troubled? am not I better to thee then ten sonnes?

Et Elkana son mari lui dit: Anne, pourquoi pleures-tu? et pourquoi ne manges-tu point? et pourquoi ton cœur est-il triste? Ne te vaux-je pas mieux que dix fils?

9 So Hannah rose vp after that they had eaten and drunke in Shiloh (and Eli the Priest sate vpon a stoole by one of the postes of the Temple of the Lord)

Et Anne se leva, après avoir mangé et bu à Silo, et Héli le Sacrificateur était assis sur un siège auprès d'un des poteaux du Tabernacle de l'Eternel.

10 And she was troubled in her minde, and prayed vnto the Lord, and wept sore:

Elle donc ayant le cœur plein d'amertume, pria l'Eternel en pleurant abondamment.

11 Also she vowed a vowe, and sayd, O Lord of hostes, if thou wilt looke on the trouble of thine handmaide, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaide, but giue vnto thine handmaide a manchilde, then I will giue him vnto the Lord all the dayes of his life, and there shall no rasor come vpon his head.

Et elle fit un vœu, en disant: Eternel des armées, si tu regardes attentivement l'affliction de ta servante, et si tu te souviens de moi, et n'oublies point ta servante, et que tu donnes à ta servante un enfant mâle, je le donnerai à l'Eternel pour tous les jours de sa vie; et aucun rasoir ne passera sur sa tête.

12 And as she continued praying before the Lord, Eli marked her mouth.

Et il arriva comme elle continuait de faire sa prière devant l'Eternel, qu'Héli prenait garde à sa bouche.

13 For Hannah spake in her heart: her lips did moue onely, but her voyce was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had bene drunken.

Or Anne parlait en son cœur; elle ne faisait que remuer ses lèvres, et on n'entendait point sa voix; c'est pourquoi Héli estima qu'elle était ivre.

14 And Eli sayde vnto her, Howe long wilt thou be drunken? Put away thy drunkennesse from thee.

Et Héli lui dit: Jusqu'à quand seras-tu ivre? va reposer ton vin.

15 Then Hannah answered and sayd, Nay my lord, but I am a woman troubled in spirit: I haue drunke neither wine nor strong drinke, but haue powred out my soule before the Lord.

Mais Anne répondit, et dit: Je ne suis point ivre, Monseigneur; je suis une femme affligée d'esprit; je n'ai bu ni vin ni cervoise, mais j'ai épandu mon âme devant l'Eternel.

16 Count not thine handmaide for a wicked woman: for of the abundance of my complaint and my griefe haue I spoken hitherto.

Ne mets point ta servante au rang d'une femme qui ne vaille rien; car c'est dans la grandeur de ma douleur et de mon affliction que j'ai parlé jusqu'à présent.

17 Then Eli answered, and sayd, Go in peace, and the God of Israel graunt thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

Alors Héli répondit, et dit: Va en paix; et le Dieu d'Israël te veuille accorder la demande que tu lui as faite.

18 She sayd againe, Let thine handmayd finde grace in thy sight: so the woman went her way, and did eate, and looked no more sad.

Et elle dit: Que ta servante trouve grâce devant tes yeux. Puis cette femme s'en alla son chemin, et elle mangea, et son visage ne fut plus tel [qu'auparavant].

19 Then they rose vp early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah. Nowe Elkanah knewe Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembred her.

Après cela ils se levèrent de bon matin, et se prosternèrent devant l'Eternel; puis ils s'en retournèrent, et vinrent en leur maison à Rama. Et Elkana connut Anne sa femme; et l'Eternel se souvint d'elle.

20 For in processe of time Hannah conceiued, and bare a sonne, and she called his name Samuel, Because, said she, I haue asked him of the Lord.

Il arriva donc quelque temps après, qu'Anne conçut, et qu'elle enfanta un fils; et elle le nomma Samuel, parce, [dit-elle], que je l'ai demandé à l'Eternel.

21 So the man Elkanah and all his house went vp to offer vnto the Lord the yeerely sacrifice, and his vowe:

Puis Elkana son mari monta avec toute sa maison, pour offrir à l'Eternel le sacrifice solennel et son vœu.

22 But Hannah went not vp: for she sayd vnto her husband, I will tarie vntill the childe be weined, then I will bring him that hee may appeare before the Lord, and there abide for euer.

Mais Anne n'y monta pas; car elle dit à son mari: [Je n'y irai point] jusqu'à ce que le petit enfant soit sevré; [et] alors je le mènerai, afin qu'il soit présenté devant l'Eternel, et qu'il demeure toujours-là.

23 And Elkanah her husband sayd vnto her, Do what seemeth thee best: tarie vntill thou hast weined him: only the Lord accomplish his word. So the woman abode, and gaue her sonne sucke vntill she weined him.

Et Elkana son mari lui dit: Fais ce qui te semblera bon; demeure jusqu'à ce que tu l'aies sevré; seulement que l'Eternel accomplisse sa parole. Ainsi cette femme demeura, et allaita son fils, jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'eut sevré.

24 And when she had weined him, she tooke him with her with three bullockes and an Ephah of floure and a bottell of wine, and brought him vnto the house of the Lord in Shiloh, and the childe was yong.

Et sitôt qu'elle l'eut sevré elle le fit monter avec elle, [et ayant pris] trois veaux, et un Epha de farine, et un baril de vin, elle le mena dans la maison de l'Eternel à Silo; et l'enfant était fort petit.

25 And they slewe a bullocke, and brought the childe to Eli.

Puis ils égorgèrent un veau, et ils amenèrent l'enfant à Héli.

26 And she said, Oh my Lord, as thy soule liueth, my lord, I am the woman that stoode with thee here praying vnto the Lord.

Et elle dit: Hélas, Monseigneur! aussi vrai que ton âme vit, Monseigneur, je suis cette femme qui me tenais en ta présence pour prier l'Eternel.

27 I prayed for this childe, and the Lord hath giuen me my desire which I asked of him.

J'ai prié pour avoir cet enfant; et l'Eternel m'a accordé la demande que je lui ai faite.

28 Therefore also I haue giuen him vnto the Lord: as long as he liueth hee shalbe giuen vnto the Lord: and he worshipped the Lord there.

C'est pourquoi je l'ai prêté à l'Eternel; il sera prêté à l'Eternel pour tous les jours de sa vie. Et il se prosterna là devant l'Eternel.
