Ruth 3

1 Afterward Naomi her mother in lawe said vnto her, My daughter, shall not I seeke rest for thee, that thou mayest prosper?

Et Nahomi sa belle-mère lui dit: Ma fille, ne te chercherai-je pas du repos, afin que tu sois heureuse?

2 Now also is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maides thou wast? beholde, he winoweth barly to night in the floore.

Maintenant donc Booz, avec les jeunes filles duquel tu as été, n'[est-il] pas de notre parenté? Voici, il vanne cette nuit les orges qui ont été foulées dans l'aire.

3 Wash thy sellfe therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment vpon thee, and get thee downe to the floore: let not the man know of thee, vntill he haue left eating and drinking.

C'est pourquoi lave-toi, et oins-toi, et mets sur toi tes [plus beaux] habits, et descends dans l'aire; [mais] ne te fais point connaître à lui jusqu'à ce qu'il ait achevé de manger et de boire.

4 And when he shall sleepe, marke the place where he layeth him downe, and go, and vncouer the place of his feete, and lay thee downe, and he shall tell thee what thou shalt doe.

Puis quand il se couchera, sache le lieu où il couchera; et entre, et découvre ses pieds, et te couche, et il te dira ce que tu auras à faire.

5 And she answered her, All that thou biddest me, I will doe.

Et elle lui répondit: Je ferai tout ce que tu me dis.

6 So she went downe vnto the floore, and did according to all that her mother in lawe bade her.

Elle descendit donc à l'aire, et fit tout ce que sa belle-mère lui avait commandé.

7 And when Boaz had eaten, and drunken, and cheared his heart, he went to lie downe at the end of the heape of corne, and she came softly, and vncouered the place of his feet, and lay downe.

Et Booz mangea et but, et étant devenu plus gai, il se vint coucher au bout d'un tas de javelles; et elle vint tout doucement, et découvrit ses pieds, et se coucha.

8 And at midnight the man was afraide and caught holde: and loe, a woman lay at his feete.

Et sur le minuit cet homme s'épouvanta, et retira [ses pieds]; car voici une femme [était] couchée à ses pieds.

9 Then he sayd, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmayd: spread therefore the wing of thy garment ouer thine handmayd: for thou art the kinsman.

Et il lui dit: Qui es-tu? Et elle répondit: Je suis Ruth ta servante; étends le pan de ta robe sur ta servante, car tu as droit de retrait lignager.

10 Then sayd he, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: thou hast shewed more goodnes in the latter end, then at the beginning, in as much as thou followedst not yong men, were they poore or rich.

Et il dit: Ma fille, que l'Eternel te bénisse; Cette dernière gratuité que tu témoignes, est plus grande que la première, de n'être point allée après les jeunes gens, pauvres ou riches.

11 And now, my daughter, feare not: I will doe to thee all that thou requirest: for all the citie of my people doeth knowe, that thou art a vertuous woman.

Or maintenant, ma fille, ne crains point, je te ferai tout ce que tu me diras, car toute la porte de mon peuple sait que tu es une femme vertueuse.

12 And now, it is true that I am thy kinsman, howbeit there is a kinsman neerer then I.

Or maintenant il est très-vrai que j'ai droit de retrait lignager; mais aussi il y en a un autre, plus proche que moi, qui a le droit de retrait lignager.

13 Tarie to night, and when morning is come, if he will doe the duetie of a kinsman vnto thee, well, let him doe the kinsmans duetie: but if he will not doe the kinsmans part, then wil I doe the duetie of a kinsman, as the Lord liueth: sleepe vntill the morning.

Passe [ici] cette nuit, et quand le matin sera venu, si [cet homme-là] veut user envers toi du droit de retrait lignager, à la bonne heure, qu'il en use; mais s'il ne lui plaît pas d'user envers toi du droit de retrait lignager, j'en userai envers toi; l'Eternel est vivant; demeure ici couchée jusqu'au matin.

14 And she lay at his feete vntill the morning: and she arose before one could know another: for he sayd, Let no man knowe, that a woman came into the floore.

Elle demeura donc couchée à ses pieds jusqu'au matin, puis elle se leva avant qu'on se put reconnaître l'un l'autre; car il dit: Qu'on ne sache point qu'aucune femme soit entrée dans l'aire.

15 Also he sayd, Bring the sheete that thou hast vpon thee, and holde it. And when she helde it, he measured sixe measures of barly, and layde them on her, and she went into the citie.

Puis il dit: Donne-moi le linge qui est sur toi, et tiens-le [de ta main]; et elle le tint, et il mesura six [mesures] d'orge, et les mit sur elle; puis il rentra dans la ville.

16 And when she came to her mother in law, she sayd, Who art thou, my daughter? And she tolde her all that the man had done to her,

Et elle vint vers sa belle-mère; laquelle lui dit: Qui es-tu, ma fille? et elle lui déclara tout ce qui s'était passé entre cet homme et elle.

17 And said, These sixe measures of barly gaue he me: for he sayd to me, Thou shalt not come emptie vnto thy mother in lawe.

Et elle dit: Il m'a donné ces six mesures d'orge; car il m'a dit: Tu ne retourneras point à vide vers ta belle-mère.

18 Then sayd she, My daughter, sit still, vntill thou knowe how the thing will fall: for the man wil not be in rest, vntill he hath finished the matter this same day.

Et [Nahomi] dit: Ma fille, demeure [ici] jusqu'à ce que tu saches comment l'affaire se terminera; car cet homme-là ne se donnera point de repos qu'il n'ait achevé l'affaire aujourd'hui.
