Proverbs 25
1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah transcribed.

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a thing.
Chwałą Boga jest sprawę taić, ale chwałą królów – dociekać sprawy.
3 The heavens for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Wysokość niebios i głębia ziemi, i serca królów są niezbadane.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth a vessel for the refiner:
Usuń żużel ze srebra, a wyjdzie naczynie dla złotnika.
5 take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Usuń niegodziwego sprzed króla, a jego tron umocni się w sprawiedliwości.
6 Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of the great;
Nie wywyższaj się przed królem i nie stawaj na miejscu wielkich;
7 for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes see.
Bo lepiej, żeby ci powiedziano: Podejdź tu, niż żeby cię poniżono przed księciem, którego twoje oczy widziały.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
Nie spiesz się do kłótni, bo na końcu [nie będziesz wiedział], co zrobić, gdy cię zawstydzi twój bliźni.
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour, but reveal not the secret of another;
Załatw sprawę ze swoim bliźnim i nie zdradzaj tajemnicy drugiemu;
10 lest he that heareth [it] disgrace thee, and thine evil report turn not away.
By ten, który słucha, nie zawstydził cię, a twoja niesława nie przylgnęła do ciebie.
11 [As] apples of gold in pictures of silver, is a word spoken in season.
Odpowiednio wypowiedziane słowo [jest jak] złote jabłko w srebrnych rzeźbach.
12 An ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, is a wise reprover upon an attentive ear.
Jak złoty kolczyk i klejnot ze szczerego złota tak jest dla uszu posłusznego ten, który mądrze strofuje.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so] is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
Czym chłód śniegu w czasie żniwa, [tym] wierny posłaniec dla tych, którzy go posyłają, bo pokrzepia dusze swych panów.
14 Clouds and wind without rain, [so] is a man that boasteth himself of a false gift.
Człowiek, który się chlubi zmyślonym darem, jest jak chmury i wiatr bez deszczu.
15 By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
Cierpliwością można przekonać władcę, a łagodny język łamie kości.
16 Hast thou found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be surfeited therewith, and vomit it.
Czy znalazłeś miód? Zjedz tyle, ile trzeba, byś objadłszy się, nie zwrócił go.
17 Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee and hate thee.
Oddal nogę od domu bliźniego, by nie miał cię dość i cię nie znienawidził.
18 A maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, is a man that beareth false witness against his neighbour.
Kto mówi fałszywe świadectwo przeciw swemu bliźniemu, [jest] młotem i mieczem, i ostrą strzałą.
19 A broken tooth, and a tottering foot, is confidence in an unfaithful [man] in the day of trouble.
Ufność w człowieka niewiernego w dniu ucisku jest [jak] złamany ząb i zwichnięta noga.
20 [As] he that taketh off a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a sad heart.
[Jak] ten, kto zabiera odzienie w czasie zimy i jak ocet na saletrze taki [jest ten], kto śpiewa pieśni smutnemu sercu.
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
Jeśli twój nieprzyjaciel jest głodny, nakarm go chlebem, a jeśli jest spragniony, napój go wodą;
22 for thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and Jehovah shall reward thee.
Bo zgarniesz rozżarzone węgle na jego głowę, a PAN cię nagrodzi.
23 The north wind bringeth forth rain, and the angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
[Jak] północny wiatr przepędza deszcz, tak gniewna twarz [przepędza] plotkarski język.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.
Lepiej mieszkać w kącie pod dachem niż z kłótliwą żoną w przestronnym domu.
25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
[Jak] zimna woda dla pragnącej duszy, [tak] dobra wieść z dalekiej ziemi.
26 A troubled fountain, and a defiled well, is a righteous [man] that giveth way before the wicked.
[Jak] zmącone źródło i zepsuty zdrój, [tak] sprawiedliwy, który upada przed niegodziwym.
27 It is not good to eat much honey; and to search into weighty matters is [itself] a weight.
Niedobrze jest jeść za dużo miodu, a szukanie własnej chwały nie jest chwałą.
28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is [as] a city broken down, without walls.
Człowiek, który nie panuje nad swoim duchem, jest [jak] miasto zburzone [i] bez muru.
