John 5
1 After these things was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Dopo queste cose ci fu una festa de’ Giudei, e Gesù salì a Gerusalemme.
2 Now there is in Jerusalem, at the sheepgate, a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.
Or a Gerusalemme, presso la porta delle Pecore, v’è una vasca, chiamata in ebraico Betesda, che ha cinque portici.
3 In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered, [awaiting the moving of the water.
Sotto questi portici giaceva un gran numero d’infermi, di ciechi, di zoppi, di paralitici, i quali aspettavano l’agitarsi dell’acqua;
4 For an angel descended at a certain season in the pool and troubled the water. Whoever therefore first went in after the troubling of the water became well, whatever disease he laboured under.]
perché un angelo scendeva nella vasca e metteva l’acqua in movimento; e il primo che vi scendeva dopo che l’acqua era stata agitata, era guarito di qualunque malattia fosse colpito.
5 But there was a certain man there who had been suffering under his infirmity thirty and eight years.
E quivi era un uomo, che da trentott’anni era infermo.
6 Jesus seeing this [man] lying [there], and knowing that he was [in that state] now a great length of time, says to him, Wouldest thou become well?
Gesù, vedutolo che giaceva e sapendo che già da gran tempo stava così, gli disse: Vuoi esser risanato?
7 The infirm [man] answered him, Sir, I have not a man, in order, when the water has been troubled, to cast me into the pool; but while I am coming another descends before me.
L’infermo gli rispose: Signore, io non ho alcuno che, quando l’acqua è mossa, mi metta nella vasca, e mentre ci vengo io, un altro vi scende prima di me.
8 Jesus says to him, Arise, take up thy couch and walk.
Gesù gli disse: Lèvati, prendi il tuo lettuccio, e cammina.
9 And immediately the man became well, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was sabbath.
E in quell’istante quell’uomo fu risanato; e preso il suo lettuccio, si mise a camminare.
10 The Jews therefore said to the healed [man], It is sabbath, it is not permitted thee to take up thy couch.
Or quel giorno era un sabato; perciò i Giudei dissero all’uomo guarito: E’ sabato, e non ti è lecito portare il tuo lettuccio.
11 He answered them, He that made me well, he said to me, Take up thy couch and walk.
Ma egli rispose loro: E’ colui che m’ha guarito, che m’ha detto: Prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina.
12 They asked him [therefore], Who is the man who said to thee, Take up thy couch and walk?
Essi gli domandarono: Chi è quell’uomo che t’ha detto: Prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina?
13 But he that had been healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had slidden away, there being a crowd in the place.
Ma colui ch’era stato guarito non sapeva chi fosse; perché Gesù era scomparso, essendovi in quel luogo molta gente.
14 After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.
Di poi Gesù lo trovò nel tempio, e gli disse: Ecco, tu sei guarito; non peccar più, che non t’accada di peggio.
15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
Quell’uomo se ne andò, e disse ai Giudei che Gesù era quel che l’avea risanato.
16 And for this the Jews persecuted Jesus [and sought to kill him], because he had done these things on sabbath.
E per questo i Giudei perseguitavano Gesù e cercavan d’ucciderlo; perché facea quelle cose di sabato.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto and I work.
Gesù rispose loro: Il Padre mio opera fino ad ora, ed anche io opero.
18 For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he had not only violated the sabbath, but also said that God was his own Father, making himself equal with God.
Perciò dunque i Giudei più che mai cercavan d’ucciderlo; perché non soltanto violava il sabato, ma chiamava Dio suo Padre, facendosi uguale a Dio.
19 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself save whatever he sees the Father doing: for whatever things he does, these things also the Son does in like manner.
Gesù quindi rispose e disse loro: In verità, in verità io vi dico che il Figliuolo non può da se stesso far cosa alcuna, se non la vede fare dal Padre; perché le cose che il Padre fa, anche il Figlio le fa similmente.
20 For the Father loves the Son and shews him all things which he himself does; and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may wonder.
Poiché il Padre ama il Figliuolo, e gli mostra tutto quello che Egli fa; e gli mostrerà delle opere maggiori di queste, affinché ne restiate maravigliati.
21 For even as the Father raises the dead and quickens [them], thus the Son also quickens whom he will:
Difatti, come il Padre risuscita i morti e li vivifica, così anche il Figliuolo vivifica chi vuole.
22 for neither does the Father judge any one, but has given all judgment to the Son;
Oltre a ciò, il Padre non giudica alcuno, ma ha dato tutto il giudicio al Figliuolo,
23 that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who honours not the Son, honours not the Father who has sent him.
affinché tutti onorino il Figliuolo come onorano il Padre. Chi non onora il Figliuolo non onora il Padre che l’ha mandato.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that he that hears my word, and believes him that has sent me, has life eternal, and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life. (aiōnios g166)
In verità, in verità io vi dico: Chi ascolta la mia parola e crede a Colui che mi ha mandato, ha vita eterna; e non viene in giudizio, ma è passato dalla morte alla vita. (aiōnios g166)
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that have heard shall live.
In verità, in verità io vi dico: L’ora viene, anzi è già venuta, che i morti udranno la voce del Figliuol di Dio; e quelli che l’avranno udita, vivranno.
26 For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son also to have life in himself,
Perché come il Padre ha vita in se stesso, così ha dato anche al Figliuolo d’aver vita in se stesso;
27 and has given him authority to execute judgment [also], because he is Son of man.
e gli ha dato autorità di giudicare, perché è il Figliuol dell’uomo.
28 Wonder not at this, for an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear his voice,
Non vi maravigliate di questo; perché l’ora viene in cui tutti quelli che sono nei sepolcri, udranno la sua voce e ne verranno fuori:
29 and shall go forth; those that have practised good, to resurrection of life, and those that have done evil, to resurrection of judgment.
quelli che hanno operato bene, in risurrezione di vita; e quelli che hanno operato male, in risurrezion di giudicio.
30 I cannot do anything of myself; as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my will, but the will of him that has sent me.
Io non posso far nulla da me stesso; come odo, giudico; e il mio giudicio è giusto, perché cerco non la mia propria volontà, ma la volontà di Colui che mi ha mandato.
31 If I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is not true.
Se io rendo testimonianza di me stesso, la mia testimonianza non è verace.
32 It is another who bears witness concerning me, and I know that the witness which he bears concerning me is true.
V’è un altro che rende testimonianza di me; e io so che la testimonianza ch’egli rende di me, è verace.
33 Ye have sent unto John, and he has borne witness to the truth.
Voi avete mandato da Giovanni, ed egli ha reso testimonianza alla verità.
34 But I do not receive witness from man, but I say this that ye might be saved.
Io però la testimonianza non la prendo dall’uomo, ma dico questo affinché voi siate salvati.
35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
Egli era la lampada ardente e splendente e voi avete voluto per breve ora godere alla sua luce.
36 But I have the witness [that is] greater than [that] of John; for the works which the Father has given me that I should complete them, the works themselves which I do, bear witness concerning me that the Father has sent me.
Ma io ho una testimonianza maggiore di quella di Giovanni; perché le opere che il Padre mi ha dato a compiere, quelle opere stesse che io fo, testimoniano di me che il Padre mi ha mandato.
37 And the Father who has sent me himself has borne witness concerning me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor have seen his shape,
E il Padre che mi ha mandato, ha Egli stesso reso testimonianza di me. La sua voce, voi non l’avete mai udita; e il suo sembiante, non l’avete mai veduto;
38 and ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom he hath sent, him ye do not believe.
e la sua parola non l’avete dimorante in voi, perché non credete in colui ch’Egli ha mandato.
39 Ye search the scriptures, for ye think that in them ye have life eternal, and they it is which bear witness concerning me; (aiōnios g166)
Voi investigate le Scritture, perché pensate aver per mezzo d’esse vita eterna, ed esse son quelle che rendon testimonianza di me; (aiōnios g166)
40 and ye will not come to me that ye might have life.
eppure non volete venire a me per aver la vita!
41 I do not receive glory from men,
Io non prendo gloria dagli uomini;
42 but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
ma vi conosco che non avete l’amor di Dio in voi.
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another come in his own name, him ye will receive.
Io son venuto nel nome del Padre mio, e voi non mi ricevete; se un altro verrà nel suo proprio nome, voi lo riceverete.
44 How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and seek not the glory which [comes] from God alone?
Come potete credere, voi che prendete gloria gli uni dagli altri e non cercate la gloria che vien da Dio solo?
45 Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is [one] who accuses you, Moses, on whom ye trust;
Non crediate che io sia colui che vi accuserà davanti al Padre; v’è chi v’accusa, ed è Mosè, nel quale avete riposta la vostra speranza.
46 for if ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for he wrote of me.
Perché se credeste a Mosè, credereste anche a me; poiché egli ha scritto di me.
47 But if ye do not believe his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
Ma se non credete agli scritti di lui, come crederete alle mie parole?
