Acts 8
1 Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.
Saul avait approuvé le meurtre d'Étienne. Le même jour, une grande persécution éclata contre l'Église de Jérusalem; tous les fidèles, excepté les apôtres, furent dispersés dans les contrées de la Judée et de la Samarie.
2 Devout men buried Stephen and lamented greatly over him.
Cependant, des hommes pieux procédèrent à l'inhumation d'Etienne, et ils pleurèrent sa mort, en faisant entendre de grandes lamentations.
3 But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into every house and dragged both men and women off to prison.
Mais Saul ravageait l'Église: il pénétrait dans les maisons, et, entraînant de force hommes et femmes, il les faisait mettre en prison. Conversion des Samaritains Simon le magicien
4 Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word.
Ceux donc qui avaient été dispersés allaient de lieu en lieu, annonçant l'Évangile.
5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.
Ainsi Philippe, étant descendu dans la ville de Samarie, y annonça le Christ. La foule était unanime à écouter avec attention ce que disait Philippe, lorsqu'elle l'entendit et qu'elle vit les miracles qu'il accomplissait.
6 The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip when they heard and saw the signs which he did.
En effet, des esprits impurs sortaient d'un grand nombre de possédés, en jetant de grands cris, et beaucoup de paralytiques et d'impotents étaient guéris.
7 For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
Ce fut une grande joie dans cette ville.
8 There was great joy in that city.
Il y avait alors, dans la même ville, un homme nommé Simon, qui exerçait la magie et remplissait d'étonnement le peuple de Samarie, se faisant passer pour un grand personnage.
9 But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who used to practice sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,
Tous, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand s'attachaient à lui, et ils disaient: C'est lui qui est la puissance de Dieu, la Grande Puissance, comme on l'appelle.
10 to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is that great power of God.”
Ils s'étaient donc attachés à lui, parce que, depuis longtemps, il les avait mis hors d'eux-mêmes par ses enchantements.
11 They listened to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
Mais, quand ils eurent cru Philippe, qui leur annonçait l'Évangile du royaume de Dieu et le nom de Jésus-Christ, ils furent baptisés, hommes et femmes.
12 But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning God’s Kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Simon lui-même crut aussi, et, après avoir été baptisé, il ne quittait plus Philippe. La vue des prodiges et des grands miracles qui s'accomplissaient le mettait hors de lui.
13 Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles occurring, he was amazed.
Les apôtres, qui étaient à Jérusalem, ayant appris que la Samarie avait accueilli la parole de Dieu, y envoyèrent Pierre et Jean.
14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
Ceux-ci, étant arrivés, prièrent pour les nouveaux disciples, afin que le Saint-Esprit leur fût donné.
15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;
Car il n'était encore descendu sur aucun d'eux; ils avaient été seulement baptisés au nom du Seigneur Jésus.
16 for as yet he had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of Christ Jesus.
Alors Pierre et Jean leur imposèrent les mains, et ils reçurent le Saint-Esprit.
17 Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Quand Simon vit que l'Esprit était donné par l'imposition des mains des apôtres, il leur offrit de l'argent,
18 Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,
en disant: Donnez-moi aussi ce pouvoir, afin que ceux à qui j'imposerai les mains reçoivent le Saint-Esprit.
19 saying, “Give me also this power, that whomever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”
Mais Pierre lui dit: Que ton argent périsse avec toi, puisque tu as cru que le don de Dieu s'acquiert avec de l'argent!
20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
Tu n'as ni part, ni lot en tout ceci; car ton coeur n'est pas droit devant Dieu.
21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
Repens-toi donc de ta méchanceté, et prie le Seigneur, afin que, s'il est possible, cette pensée de ton coeur te soit pardonnée.
22 Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
Car je vois que tu as le coeur rempli de fiel et que tu es dans les liens de l'iniquité.
23 For I see that you are in the poison of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity.”
Simon répondit: Priez vous-mêmes le Seigneur pour moi, afin qu'il ne m'arrive rien de ce que vous avez dit.
24 Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken happen to me.”
Pierre et Jean, après avoir ainsi rendu leur témoignage et annoncé la parole du Seigneur, retournèrent à Jérusalem, en évangélisant plusieurs villages des Samaritains.
25 They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the Good News to many villages of the Samaritans.
Cependant, un ange du Seigneur parla à Philippe et lui dit: Lève-toi, et, vers l'heure de midi, va sur le chemin qui conduit de Jérusalem à Gaza.
26 Then an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert.”
Ce chemin est désert. Philippe se leva et partit. Or, un eunuque éthiopien, officier de la cour de Candace, reine d'Ethiopie, administrateur de tous ses trésors, qui était venu à Jérusalem pour adorer,
27 He arose and went; and behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.
s'en retournait; et, assis sur son char, il lisait le prophète Ésaïe.
28 He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
L'Esprit dit à Philippe: Approche-toi et rejoins ce char.
29 The Spirit said to Philip, “Go near, and join yourself to this chariot.”
Philippe accourut, et, entendant l'Éthiopien qui lisait le prophète Ésaïe, il lui dit: Comprends-tu ce que tu lis?
30 Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
L'eunuque lui répondit: Comment le pourrais-je, si quelqu'un ne me guide? Et il pria Philippe de monter et de s'asseoir auprès de lui.
31 He said, “How can I, unless someone explains it to me?” He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.
Or, le passage de l'Écriture qu'il lisait était celui-ci: «Il a été mené comme une brebis à la boucherie; et, comme un agneau muet devant celui qui le tond, il n'a pas ouvert la bouche.
32 Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth.
Dans son abaissement même, sa condamnation a été levée.
33 In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth.”
Mais qui dépeindra sa génération? Car sa vie a été retranchée de la terre.»
34 The eunuch answered Philip, “Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?”
L'eunuque, prenant la parole, dit à Philippe: Je te prie, de qui le prophète dit-il cela? Est-ce de lui-même, ou de quelque autre?
35 Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him about Jesus.
Alors Philippe, ouvrant la bouche et commençant par ce passage de l'Écriture, lui annonça Jésus.
36 As they went on the way, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?”
Chemin faisant, ils rencontrèrent de l'eau; et l'eunuque dit; Voici de l'eau; qu'est-ce qui empêche que je sois baptisé?
[Philippe dit: Si tu crois de tout ton coeur, cela est possible. L'eunuque répondit: Je crois que Jésus-Christ est le Fils de Dieu].
38 He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
Il donna l'ordre d'arrêter le char; puis, tous deux descendirent dans l'eau, et Philippe baptisa l'eunuque.
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
Quand ils furent sortis de l'eau, l'Esprit du Seigneur enleva Philippe; l'eunuque ne le vit plus, et il continua son chemin, plein de joie.
40 But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the Good News to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.
Quant à Philippe, il se trouva dans Azot; de là, il se rendit à Césarée, annonçant l'Évangile dans toutes les villes où il passait.
