Acts 9
1 But Saul, still breathing threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
Cependant, Saul, ne respirant toujours que menaces et carnage contre les disciples du Seigneur, s'adressa au souverain sacrificateur;
2 and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
et il lui demanda des lettres pour les synagogues de Damas, afin que, s'il trouvait quelques personnes de la secte, hommes ou femmes, il les amenât enchaînées à Jérusalem.
3 As he traveled, he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him.
Mais, comme il était en chemin et qu'il approchait de Damas, tout à coup, une lumière venant du ciel resplendit autour de lui.
4 He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
Il tomba à terre, et il entendit une voix qui lui disait: Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu?
5 He said, “Who are you, Lord?” The Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
Il répondit: Qui es-tu, Seigneur? Le Seigneur dit: Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes!
6 But rise up and enter into the city, then you will be told what you must do.”
Mais relève-toi, entre dans la ville, et on te dira ce qu'il faut que tu fasses.
7 The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the sound, but seeing no one.
Ses compagnons de voyage s'étaient arrêtés stupéfaits, entendant bien la voix, mais ne voyant personne.
8 Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one. They led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.
Saul se releva de terre; et, quoiqu'il eût les yeux ouverts, il ne voyait rien.
9 He was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank.
Ils le conduisirent par la main, et le menèrent à Damas, où il resta trois jours sans voir, et sans manger ni boire.
10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias!” He said, “Behold, it’s me, Lord.”
Or, il y avait à Damas un disciple, nommé Ananias. Le Seigneur lui dit dans une vision: Ananias! Il répondit: Me voici, Seigneur.
11 The Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judah for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying,
Le Seigneur lui dit: Lève-toi, va dans la rue appelée la rue Droite, et cherche dans la maison de Judas un nommé Saul, de Tarse. Voici qu'il est en prière;
12 and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight.”
et il a vu un homme, nommé Ananias, entrer chez lui et lui imposer les mains, pour lui faire recouvrer la vue.
13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem.
Ananias répondit: Seigneur, j'ai entendu dire à plusieurs personnes tout le mal que cet homme a fait à tes saints, dans Jérusalem.
14 Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.”
Et il est ici avec pleins pouvoirs, de la part des principaux sacrificateurs, pour enchaîner tous ceux qui invoquent ton nom.
15 But the Lord said to him, “Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel.
Mais le Seigneur lui dit: Va; car cet homme est un instrument que je me suis choisi, pour porter mon nom devant les nations, les rois et les enfants d'Israël;
16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”
et je lui montrerai combien il faut qu'il souffre pour mon nom.
17 Ananias departed and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Ananias s'en alla donc; puis étant entré dans la maison, il imposa les mains à Saul et lui dit: Saul, mon frère, le Seigneur, ce Jésus qui t'est apparu sur le chemin par lequel tu venais, m'a envoyé, afin que tu recouvres la vue et que tu sois rempli du Saint-Esprit.
18 Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.
Aussitôt il tomba des yeux de Saul comme des écailles, et il recouvra la vue; puis, il se leva et fut baptisé.
19 He took food and was strengthened. Saul stayed several days with the disciples who were at Damascus.
Et quand il eut pris de la nourriture, les forces lui revinrent. Saul passa quelques jours avec les disciples qui étaient à Damas.
20 Immediately in the synagogues he proclaimed the Christ, that he is the Son of God.
Aussitôt il se mit à prêcher dans les synagogues que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu.
21 All who heard him were amazed, and said, “Is not this he who in Jerusalem made havoc of those who called on this name? And he had come here intending to bring them bound before the chief priests!”
Tous ceux qui l'entendirent étaient dans l'étonnement, et ils disaient: N'est-ce pas lui qui persécutait à Jérusalem ceux qui invoquent ce nom, et n'était-il pas venu ici afin de les conduire enchaînés aux principaux sacrificateurs?
22 But Saul increased more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.
Quant à Saul, il se fortifiait de plus en plus, et il confondait les Juifs qui habitaient à Damas, en démontrant que Jésus est le Christ.
23 When many days were fulfilled, the Jews conspired together to kill him,
Quelque temps après, les Juifs se concertèrent pour le faire périr.
24 but their plot became known to Saul. They watched the gates both day and night that they might kill him,
Mais Saul fut averti de leur complot. On gardait même les portes jour et nuit, afin de le tuer.
25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.
Mais les disciples le prirent, pendant la nuit, et ils le descendirent le long de la muraille, dans une corbeille.
26 When Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join himself to the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.
Quand Saul fut arrivé à Jérusalem, il essayait de se joindre aux disciples; mais tous le redoutaient, ne croyant pas qu'il fût aussi un disciple.
27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles, and declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.
Alors Barnabas le prit avec lui, le mena aux apôtres et leur raconta comment le Seigneur lui était apparu sur le chemin et lui avait parlé, et comment il avait prêché hardiment à Damas, au nom de Jésus.
28 He was with them entering into Jerusalem,
Dès lors, il allait et venait avec eux dans Jérusalem, et il parlait avec hardiesse au nom du Seigneur.
29 preaching boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus. He spoke and disputed against the Hellenists, but they were seeking to kill him.
Il s'entretenait aussi et discutait avec les Hellénistes; mais ceux-ci cherchaient à lui ôter la vie.
30 When the brothers knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
Les frères, l'ayant appris, le menèrent à Césarée, et le firent partir pour Tarse.
31 So the assemblies throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were built up. They were multiplied, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
Ainsi, l'Église jouissait de la paix dans toute la Judée, la Galilée et la Samarie, s'édifiant et marchant dans la crainte du Seigneur; et elle croissait en nombre par l'assistance du Saint-Esprit.
32 As Peter went throughout all those parts, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.
Or, il arriva que Pierre, qui visitait tout le pays, se rendit aussi auprès des saints qui demeuraient à Lydda.
33 There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years because he was paralyzed.
Il y trouva un homme, appelé Énée, couché sur son lit depuis huit ans, et qui était paralytique.
34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed!” Immediately he arose.
Pierre lui dit: Énée, Jésus-Christ te guérit; lève-toi, et fais toi-même ton lit. Aussitôt Énée se leva.
35 All who lived at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
Tous les habitants de Lydda et du Saron le virent, et ils se convertirent au Seigneur.
36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which when translated means Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and acts of mercy which she did.
Il y avait à Joppé, parmi les disciples, une femme nommée Tabitha, c'est-à-dire Dorcas; elle était riche en bonnes oeuvres, et elle faisait beaucoup d'aumônes.
37 In those days, she became sick and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.
Elle tomba malade en ce temps-là et mourut. On lava son corps, et on le déposa dans une chambre haute.
38 As Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them.
Les disciples ayant appris que Pierre se trouvait à Lydda, qui est près de Joppé, lui envoyèrent deux hommes pour le prier de venir auprès d'eux sans tarder.
39 Peter got up and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper room. All the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the tunics and other garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.
Pierre se leva et partit avec eux. Lorsqu'il fut arrivé, on le conduisit à la chambre haute, et toutes les veuves vinrent à lui en, pleurant, et elles lui montrèrent combien Dorcas faisait de vêtements et de manteaux, lorsqu'elle était avec elles.
40 Peter sent them all out, and knelt down and prayed. Turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
Pierre, après avoir fait sortir tout le monde, se mit à genoux et pria; puis, se tournant vers le corps, il dit: Tabitha, lève-toi! Elle ouvrit les yeux, et, voyant Pierre, elle se mit sur son séant.
41 He gave her his hand and raised her up. Calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.
Il lui tendit la main, et il la fit lever; puis, ayant appelé les saints et les veuves, il la leur présenta vivante.
42 This became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
Ce fait fut connu de toute la ville de Joppé; et beaucoup de personnes crurent au Seigneur.
43 He stayed many days in Joppa with a tanner named Simon.
Quant à Pierre, il resta plusieurs jours à Joppé, chez un corroyeur, nommé Simon.
