1 Jing nikhoa dingin kiletsah tothon thu seihih in, ajeh chu itobang nikho ahung lhun ding nahepoi.
BOAST not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Nakamsunga nakipachat sangin, midang kipachat sah jon, chule nangle nang nakam sunga naki vahchoi sangin, hetkhahlou kholgam mi kivahchoi sah in.
Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3 Songhi agih lheh in, neldi jong gihtah ahi. Hinlah mingol lunghanna hi neldi sanga jong gihjo nalai ahi.
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.
4 Lunghan hi giloutah ahin, lungsat in jong mi achup jin; hinlah thangthipna hi akhoh jon ahi.
Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
5 Aguh a kingailut sangin, lhang phonga kiphosal aphajoi.
Open rebuke is better than secret love.
6 Gol phatah’a kon kimavona chu kitah jal ahin, melman eibeng chop vang kilhep lhahna ahibouve.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
7 Mihem aoi-vasa dingin khoiju jeng jong lohso nabep ahin, agilkilpa din vang an tuimopen jong alhum tobang ahi.
The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8 Ain’a kon vah mangpa chu, abusunga kon lengmang vahcha tobang ahi.
As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 Koi hileh theiphung phut chan in aga aneh bangin, koi hileh apupa ngaichat jouse hethem chu, mi jabolna achang teijin ahi.
Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19 Twi chung ivet teng mihem eima mai akilahdoh ji bangin, mihem kiti jong hi alunggil in aphondohji ahi.
As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

21 Khangbel hi dangka lhahtheng na ding ahin, thuh khuh jong hi sana sonjolna’a kimang ahi; hijeh achu mihem jeng jong pachatna dinmun’a aum laitah a bou patepna changji ahi.
As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
22 Mingol chu lhengkong sunga suhdun changbong toh goitha jongleh chun, angolna laitah chu amatahsa’a kon potdoh dehlou ding ahi.
Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
23 Nakelngoi honte umchan hethem jingin, chule nabong honte jeng jong phaten vephan;
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
24 Ajeh chu haona hi tonsotna ding ahipon, lallukhuh jong hi akhang khang ding um hinam?
For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
25 Hampa apul chaisoh tengleh ana ahung noudoh kit jin, chule molchunga hampa louhing jouse jong kichom khomji ahi.
The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26 Nakelngoi teovin ponsil ding natopeh diu, chule nakelchateu vin jong loumun khat man natopeh diu ahi.
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
27 Nadon khopset kelcha noitwi tatlouva umjing ding, chule na in-sung vahna dingle nalhacha nungah ho vahna dia jong lhingset ding ahi.
And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
