متّی 3
| و در آن ایام، یحیی تعمید‌دهنده در بیابان یهودیه ظاهر شد و موعظه کرده، می‌گفت: | ۱ 1 |
About that time John the Baptist first appeared, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea:
| «توبه کنید، زیرا ملکوت آسمان نزدیک است.» | ۲ 2 |
‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
| زیرا همین است آنکه اشعیای نبی از او خبرداده، می‌گوید: «صدای ندا کننده‌ای در بیابان که راه خداوند را مهیا سازید و طرق او را راست نمایید.» | ۳ 3 |
John was the one who was spoken of in the prophet Isaiah, where he says – “The voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness: ‘Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”
| و این یحیی لباس از پشم شترمی داشت، و کمربند چرمی بر کمر و خوراک او ازملخ و عسل بری می‌بود. | ۴ 4 |
John’s clothes were made of camels’ hair, with a leather strap round his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
| در این وقت، اورشلیم و تمام یهودیه وجمیع حوالی اردن نزد او بیرون می‌آمدند، | ۵ 5 |
At that time Jerusalem, and all Judea, as well as the whole district of the Jordan, went out to him
| و به گناهان خود اعتراف کرده، در اردن از وی تعمیدمی یافتند. | ۶ 6 |
and were baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
| پس چون بسیاری از فریسیان و صدوقیان رادید که بجهت تعمید وی می‌آیند، بدیشان گفت: «ای افعی‌زادگان، که شما را اعلام کرد که از غضب آینده بگریزید؟ | ۷ 7 |
But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to receive his baptism, he said to them, ‘You children of snakes! Who has prompted you to seek refuge from the coming judgment?
| اکنون ثمره شایسته توبه بیاورید، | ۸ 8 |
Let your life, then, prove your repentance;
| و این سخن را به‌خاطر خود راه مدهیدکه پدر ما ابراهیم است، زیرا به شما می‌گویم خداقادر است که از این سنگها فرزندان برای ابراهیم برانگیزاند. | ۹ 9 |
and do not think that you can say among yourselves “Abraham is our ancestor,” for I tell you that out of these stones God is able to raise descendants for Abraham!
| و الحال تیشه بر ریشه درختان نهاده شده است، پس هر درختی که ثمره نیکونیاورد، بریده و در آتش افکنده شود. | ۱۰ 10 |
Already the axe is lying at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that fails to bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
| من شمارا به آب به جهت توبه تعمید می‌دهم. لکن او که بعد از من می‌آید از من تواناتر است که لایق برداشتن نعلین او نیستم؛ او شما را به روح‌القدس و آتش تعمید خواهد داد. | ۱۱ 11 |
I, indeed, baptize you with water to teach repentance; but he who is coming after me is more powerful than I, and I am not fit even to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
| او غربال خود را دردست دارد و خرمن خود را نیکو پاک کرده، گندم خویش را در انبار ذخیره خواهد نمود، ولی کاه رادر آتشی که خاموشی نمی پذیرد خواهدسوزانید.» | ۱۲ 12 |
His winnowing-fan is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing-floor, and store his grain in the barn, but the chaff he will burn with a fire that cannot be put out.’
| آنگاه عیسی از جلیل به اردن نزد یحیی آمدتا از او تعمید یابد. | ۱۳ 13 |
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him.
| اما یحیی او را منع نموده، گفت: «من احتیاج دارم که از تو تعمید یابم و تونزد من می‌آیی؟» | ۱۴ 14 |
But John tried to prevent him. ‘I need to be baptized by you,’ he said, ‘so why have you come to me?’
| عیسی در جواب وی گفت: «الان بگذارزیرا که ما را همچنین مناسب است تا تمام عدالت را به‌کمال رسانیم.» | ۱۵ 15 |
‘This is the way it should be for now,’ Jesus answered, ‘because we should do everything that God requires.’ So John agreed.
| اما عیسی چون تعمیدیافت، فور از آب برآمد که در ساعت آسمان بروی گشاده شد و روح خدا را دید که مثل کبوتری نزول کرده، بر وی می‌آید. | ۱۶ 16 |
After the baptism of Jesus, and just as he came up from the water, the heavens opened, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and resting on him,
| آنگاه خطابی ازآسمان در‌رسید که «این است پسر حبیب من که ازاو خشنودم.» | ۱۷ 17 |
and from the heavens there came a voice which said, ‘This is my dearly loved son, who brings me great joy.’
