یوحنا 5

۱ 1 و بعد از آن یهود را عیدی بود و عیسی به اورشلیم آمد.

Sometime after this there was a Jewish Festival; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

۲ 2 و در اورشلیم نزدباب الضان حوضی است که آن را به عبرانی بیت حسدا می‌گویند که پنج رواق دارد.

There is in Jerusalem, near the sheep-gate, a bath with five colonnades round it. It is called in Hebrew “Bethesda.”

۳ 3 و درآنجا جمعی کثیر از مریضان و کوران و لنگان وشلان خوابیده، منتظر حرکت آب می‌بودند.

In these colonnades a large number of sick people were lying – blind, lame, and crippled.

۴ 4

۵ 5 و در آنجا مردی بود که سی و هشت سال به مرضی مبتلا بود.

One man who was there had been crippled for thirty-eight years.

۶ 6 چون عیسی او را خوابیده دیدو دانست که مرض او طول کشیده است، بدوگفت: «آیا می‌خواهی شفا یابی؟»

Jesus saw the man lying there, and, finding that he had been in this state a long time, said to him, ‘Do you wish to be cured?’

۷ 7 مریض او راجواب داد که «ای آقا کسی ندارم که چون آب به حرکت آید، مرا در حوض بیندازد، بلکه تا وقتی که می‌آیم، دیگری پیش از من فرو رفته است.

‘I have no one, Sir,’ the sick man answered, ‘to put me into the bath when there is a troubling of the water, and, while I am getting to it, someone else steps down before me.’

۸ 8 عیسی بدو گفت: «برخیز و بستر خود رابرداشته، روانه شو!»

‘Stand up,’ said Jesus, ‘take up your mat, and walk.’

۹ 9 که در حال آن، مرد شفایافت و بستر خود را برداشته، روانه گردید. و آن روز سبت بود.

The man was cured immediately, and took up his mat and began walking.

۱۰ 10 پس یهودیان به آن کسی‌که شفا یافته بود، گفتند: «روز سبت است و بر تو روا نیست که بسترخود را برداری.»

Now it was the Sabbath. So the religious authorities said to the man who had been cured, ‘This is the Sabbath; you must not carry your mat.’

۱۱ 11 او در جواب ایشان گفت: «آن کسی‌که مرا شفا داد، همان به من گفت بستر خود را بردار و برو.»

‘The man who cured me,’ he answered, ‘said to me “Take up your mat and walk.”’

۱۲ 12 پس از او پرسیدند: «کیست آنکه به تو گفت، بستر خود را بردار وبرو؟»

‘Who was it,’ they asked, ‘that said to you “Take up your mat and walk”?’

۱۳ 13 لیکن آن شفا یافته نمی دانست که بود، زیرا که عیسی ناپدید شد چون در آنجا ازدحامی بود.

But the man who had been restored did not know who it was; for Jesus had moved away, because there was a crowd there.

۱۴ 14 و بعد از آن، عیسی او را در هیکل یافته بدو گفت: «اکنون شفا یافته‌ای. دیگر خطا مکن تابرای تو بدتر نگردد.»

Afterwards Jesus found the man in the Temple Courts, and said to him, ‘You are cured now; do not sin again, or something worse may happen to you.’

۱۵ 15 آن مرد رفت و یهودیان را خبر داد که «آنکه مرا شفا داد، عیسی است.»

The man went away, and told the authorities that it was Jesus who had cured him.

۱۶ 16 و از این سبب یهودیان بر عیسی تعدی می‌کردند، زیرا که این کار را در روز سبت کرده بود.

And that was why they began to persecute Jesus – because he did things of this kind on the Sabbath.

۱۷ 17 عیسی در جواب ایشان گفت که «پدر من تاکنون کار می‌کند و من نیز کار می‌کنم.»

But Jesus replied, ‘My Father works to this very hour, and I work also.’

۱۸ 18 پس ازاین سبب، یهودیان بیشتر قصد قتل او کردند زیراکه نه‌تنها سبت را می‌شکست بلکه خدا را نیز پدرخود گفته، خود را مساوی خدا می‌ساخت.

This made the authorities all the more eager to kill him, because not only was he doing away with the Sabbath, but he actually called God his own Father – putting himself on an equality with God.

۱۹ 19 آنگاه عیسی در جواب ایشان گفت: «آمین آمین به شما می‌گویم که پسر از خود هیچ نمی تواند کرد مگر آنچه بیند که پدر به عمل آرد، زیرا که آنچه او می‌کند، همچنین پسر نیز می‌کند.

So Jesus made this further reply, ‘In truth I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself; he does only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does, the Son does also.

۲۰ 20 زیرا که پدر پسر را دوست می‌دارد و هرآنچه خود می‌کند بدو می‌نماید و اعمال بزرگتر از این بدو نشان خواهد داد تا شما تعجب نمایید.

For the Father loves his Son, and shows him everything that he is doing; and he will show him still greater things – so that you will be filled with wonder.

۲۱ 21 زیرا همچنان‌که پدر مردگان را برمی خیزاند وزنده می‌کند، همچنین پسر نیز هر‌که رامی خواهد زنده می‌کند.

For, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he pleases.

۲۲ 22 زیرا که پدر برهیچ‌کس داوری نمی کند بلکه تمام داوری را به پسر سپرده است.

The Father himself does not judge any one, but has entrusted the work of judging entirely to his Son,

۲۳ 23 تا آنکه همه پسر را حرمت بدارند، همچنان‌که پدر را حرمت می‌دارند؛ وکسی‌که به پسر حرمت نکند، به پدری که او رافرستاد احترام نکرده است.

so that everyone may honour the Son, just as they honour the Father. The person who does not honour the Son fails to honour the Father who sent him.

۲۴ 24 آمین آمین به شمامی گویم هر‌که کلام مرا بشنود و به فرستنده من ایمان آورد، حیات جاودانی دارد و در داوری نمی آید، بلکه از موت تا به حیات منتقل گشته است. (aiōnios g166)

In truth I tell you that the person who listens to my message and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come under condemnation, but has already passed out of death into life. (aiōnios g166)

۲۵ 25 آمین آمین به شما می‌گویم که ساعتی می‌آید بلکه اکنون است که مردگان آواز پسر خدارا می‌شنوند و هر‌که بشنود زنده گردد.

In truth I tell you that a time is coming, indeed it is already here, when the dead will listen to the voice of the Son of God, and when those who listen will live.

۲۶ 26 زیراهمچنان‌که پدر در خود حیات دارد، همچنین پسر را نیز عطا کرده است که در خود حیات داشته باشد.

For, just as the Father has inherent life within him, so also he has granted to the Son to have inherent life within him;

۲۷ 27 و بدو قدرت بخشیده است که داوری هم بکند زیرا که پسر انسان است.

and, because he is Son of Man, he has also given him authority to act as judge.

۲۸ 28 و از این تعجب مکنید زیرا ساعتی می‌آید که در آن جمیع کسانی که در قبور می‌باشند، آواز او را خواهندشنید،

Do not wonder at this; for the time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice,

۲۹ 29 و بیرون خواهند آمد؛ هر‌که اعمال نیکوکرد، برای قیامت حیات و هر‌که اعمال بد کرد، بجهت قیامت داوری.

and will come out – those who have done good rising to life, and those who have lived evil lives rising for condemnation.

۳۰ 30 من از خود هیچ نمی توانم کرد بلکه چنانکه شنیده‌ام داوری می‌کنم و داوری من عادل است زیرا که اراده خود را طالب نیستم بلکه اراده پدری که مرا فرستاده است.

I can do nothing of myself; I judge as I am taught; and the judgment that I give is just, because my aim is not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

۳۱ 31 اگر من بر خود شهادت دهم شهادت من راست نیست.

‘If I bear testimony to myself, my testimony is not trustworthy;

۳۲ 32 دیگری هست که بر من شهادت می‌دهد ومی دانم که شهادتی که او بر من می‌دهد راست است.

it is another who bears testimony to me, and I know that the testimony which he bears to me is trustworthy.

۳۳ 33 شما نزد یحیی فرستادید و او به راستی شهادت داد.

You have yourselves sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

۳۴ 34 اما من شهادت انسان را قبول نمی کنم ولیکن این سخنان را می‌گویم تا شمانجات یابید.

But the testimony which I receive is not from people; I am saying this for your salvation.

۳۵ 35 او چراغ افروخته و درخشنده‌ای بود و شما خواستید که ساعتی به نور او شادی کنید.

He was the Lamp that was burning and shining, and you were ready to rejoice, for a time, in his light.

۳۶ 36 و اما من شهادت بزرگتر از یحیی دارم زیرا آن کارهایی که پدر به من عطا کرد تا کامل کنم، یعنی‌این کارهایی که من می‌کنم، بر من شهادت می‌دهد که پدر مرا فرستاده است.

But the testimony which I have is of greater weight than John’s; for the work that the Father has given me to carry out – the work that I am doing – is in itself proof that the Father has sent me as his messenger.

۳۷ 37 وخود پدر که مرا فرستاد، به من شهادت داده است که هرگز آواز او را نشنیده و صورت او راندیده‌اید،

The Father who has sent me has himself borne testimony to me. You have neither listened to his voice, not seen his form;

۳۸ 38 و کلام او را در خود ثابت نداریدزیرا کسی را که پدر فرستاد شما بدو ایمان نیاوردید.

and you have not taken his message home to your hearts, because you do not believe him whom he sent as his messenger.

۳۹ 39 کتب را تفتیش کنید زیرا شما گمان می‌بریدکه در آنها حیات جاودانی دارید و آنها است که به من شهادت می‌دهد. (aiōnios g166)

You search the scriptures, because you think that you find in them immortal life; and, though it is those scriptures that bear testimony to me, (aiōnios g166)

۴۰ 40 و نمی خواهید نزد من آیید تا حیات یابید.

you refuse to come to me to have life.

۴۱ 41 جلال را از مردم نمی پذیرم.

‘I do not receive honour from people,

۴۲ 42 ولکن شما را می‌شناسم که در نفس خود محبت خدا را ندارید.

but I know this of you, that you have not the love of God in your hearts.

۴۳ 43 من به اسم پدرخود آمده‌ام و مرا قبول نمی کنید، ولی هرگاه دیگری به اسم خود آید، او را قبول خواهید کرد.

I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

۴۴ 44 شما چگونه می‌توانید ایمان آرید و حال آنکه جلال از یکدیگر می‌طلبید و جلالی را که ازخدای واحد است طالب نیستید؟

How can you believe in me, when you receive honour from one another and do not desire the honour which comes from the only God?

۴۵ 45 گمان مبریدکه من نزد پدر بر شما ادعا خواهم کرد. کسی هست که مدعی شما می‌باشد و آن موسی است که بر او امیدوار هستید.

Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; your accuser is Moses, on whom you have been resting your hopes.

۴۶ 46 زیرا اگر موسی راتصدیق می‌کردید، مرا نیز تصدیق می‌کردیدچونکه او درباره من نوشته است.

For, had you believed Moses, you would have believed me, for it was of me that Moses wrote;

۴۷ 47 اما چون نوشته های او را تصدیق نمی کنید، پس چگونه سخنهای مرا قبول خواهید کرد.»

but, if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my teaching?’
