Job 23
1 Then Job answered and said,
А Йов відповів та й сказав:
2 Yes, I know that pleading is out of my reach; and his hand has been made heavy upon my groaning.
„Моя мова й сьогодні гірка́, — тяжче стражда́ння моє за стогна́ння мої.
3 Who would then know that I might find him, and come to an end [of the matter]?
О, якби то я знав, де Його я знайду́, то прийшов би до місця Його пробува́ння!
4 And I would plead my own cause, and he would fill my mouth with arguments.
Я б перед обличчям Його свою справу поклав, а уста свої я напо́внив би до́водами, —
5 And I would know the remedies which he would speak to me, and I would perceive what he would tell me.
розізнав би слова́, що́ мені відповість, і я зрозумів би, що́ скаже мені.
6 Though he should come on me in [his] great strength, then he would not threaten me;
Чи зо мною на прю Він з великою силою стане? О ні, — тільки б увагу звернув Він на мене!
7 for truth and reproof are from him; and he would bring forth my judgment to an end.
Справедливий судився б там з Ним, я ж наза́вжди б звільни́всь від свойого Судді.
8 For if I shall go first, and exist no longer, still what do I know [concerning] the latter end?
Та піду́ я на схід — і немає Його, а на за́хід удамся — Його не побачу,
9 When he wrought on the left hand, then I observed [it] not: his right hand shall encompass me but I shall not see [it].
на півно́чі шукаю Його — й не вхоплю́, збо́чу на пі́вдень — і не добача́ю.
10 For he knows already my way; and he has tried me as gold.
А Він знає дорогу, яка при мені, — хай би ви́пробував Він мене, — мов те золото, вийду!
11 And I will go forth according to his commandments, for I have kept his ways; and I shall not turn aside from his commandments,
Трималась нога моя коло стопи́ Його, доро́ги Його я держа́вся й не збо́чив.
12 neither shall I transgress; but I have hid his words in my bosom.
Я не відступався від за́повідей Його губ, над уста́ву свою я ховав слова уст Його.
13 And if too he has thus judged, who is he that has contradicted, for he has both willed [a thing] and done it.
Але Він при одно́му, — й хто заве́рне Його? Як чого зажадає душа Його, — те Він учинить:
бо Він ви́конає, що́ про мене призна́чив, і в Нього багато такого, як це!
15 Therefore am I troubled at him; and when I was reproved, I thought of him. Therefore let me take good heed before him: I will consider, and be afraid of him.
Тому перед обличчям Його я тремчу́, розважаю — й жахаюсь Його.
16 But the Lord has softened my heart, and the Almighty has troubled me.
А Бог пом'якши́в моє серце, і Всемогутній мене настраши́в,
17 For I knew not that darkness would come upon me, and thick darkness has covered [me] before my face.
бо не знищений я від темно́ти, ані від обличчя свого, що темність закрила його!
