Від Матвія 14
1 Того часу Ірод четверовластник почув чутку про Ісуса,
At that time Herod the Tetrarche heard of the fame of Iesus,
2 і рече до слуг своїх: Се Йоан Хреститель; він устав з мертвих, то й чудеса дїють ся від него,
And sayde vnto his seruaunts, This is that Iohn Baptist, hee is risen againe from the deade, and therefore great woorkes are wrought by him.
3 Бо Ірод піймав був Йоана, звязав його, і вкинув у темницю за Іродияду, жінку брата свого Филипа.
For Herod had taken Iohn, and bounde him, and put him in prison for Herodias sake, his brother Philips wife.
4 Бо казав йому Иоан: Не годить ся тобі мати її.
For Iohn saide vnto him, It is not lawfull for thee to haue her.
5 І, хотїв його стратити, та опасувась народу; бо мали його за пророка.
And when hee woulde haue put him to death, hee feared the multitude, because they counted him as a Prophet.
6 У день же родин Іродових, дочка Іродиядвна танцювала перед ними й догодила Іродові.
But when Herods birth day was kept, the daughter of Herodias daunced before them, and pleased Herod.
7 За се обіцяв він, клянучись, що дасть їй, чого просити ме.
Wherefore he promised with an othe, that he would giue her whatsoeuer she would aske.
8 Вона ж, наперед навчена від матері: Дай менї, каже, тут на блюдї голову Иоана Хрестителя.
And shee being before instructed of her mother, sayde, Giue mee here Iohn Baptists head in a platter.
9 І засумів Ірод; однак, задля клятьби й задля тих, що сиділи з ним за столом, звелїв дати.
And the King was sorie: neuerthelesse because of the othe, and them that sate with him at the table, he commanded it to be giuen her,
10 І, пославши, стяв Йоана в темниці.
And sent, and beheaded Iohn in the prison.
11 І принесено голову його на блюдї, й дано дївчинї, вона ж віднесла матері своїй.
And his head was brought in a platter, and giuen to the maide, and shee brought it vnto her mother.
12 І прийшли ученики його, і взяли тїло, й поховали його, й прийшовши, сповістили Ісуса.
And his disciples came, and tooke vp the bodie, and buried it, and went, and tolde Iesus.
13 Почувши про се Ісус, поплив звідтіля човном у пустиню сам один; і почувши народ, піишов слідом за Ним пішки з городів.
And when Iesus heard it, hee departed thence by shippe into a desert place apart. And when the multitude had heard it, they followed him on foote out of the cities.
14 І, вийшовши Ісус, побачив багато народу, й жалкував над ними, й сцїлив недужих їх.
And Iesus went foorth and sawe a great multitude, and was mooued with compassion toward them, and he healed their sicke.
15 Як же настав вечір, приступили до Него ученики Його, говорячи: Тут пустиня, і час уже минув; відошли народ, нехай іде в села, та накупить харчі собі.
And when euen was come, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desart place, and the time is alreadie past: let the multitude depart, that they may goe into the townes, and bye them vitailes.
16 Ісус же рече їм: Не треба їм ійти; дайте ви їм їсти.
But Iesus saide to them, They haue no neede to goe away: giue yee them to eate.
17 Вони ж кажуть Йому: Не маємо тут, як тільки пять хлїбів та дві рибі.
Then saide they vnto him, Wee haue here but fiue loaues, and two fishes.
18 Він же рече: Принесіть менї їх сюди.
And he saide, Bring them hither to me.
19 І звелїв народові посідати на траві, і, взявши пять хлїбів та дві рибі, й поглянувши на небо, поблагословив, і, ламлючи, подавав хлїби ученикам, а ученики людям.
And hee commanded the multitude to sit downe on the grasse, and tooke the fiue loaues and the two fishes, and looked vp to heauen and blessed, and brake, and gaue the loaues to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
20 І їли вони всї, й понаїдались; і назбирали окрушин, що позоставались, дванайцять повних кошів.
And they did all eate, and were sufficed, and they tooke vp of the fragments that remained, twelue baskets full.
21 А тих, що їли, було тисяч із пять чоловіка, опріч жінок та дітей.
And they that had eaten, were about fiue thousande men, beside women and litle children.
22 І примусив зараз Ісус учеників своїх увійти в човен, і плисти поперед Него на той бік, поки Він одпустить народ.
And straightway Iesus compelled his disciples to enter into a shippe, and to goe ouer before him, while he sent the multitude away.
23 А відпустивши народ, зійшов на гору самотою молитись; і як настав вечір, був там один.
And assoone as hee had sent the multitude away, he went vp into a moutaine alone to pray: and when the euening was come, hee was there alone.
24 Човен же був уже серед моря, і било його филями; бо вітер був противний.
And the shippe was nowe in the middes of the sea, and was tossed with waues: for it was a contrarie winde.
25 У четверту ж сторожу ночи, прийшов до них Ісус, ідучи по морю.
And in the fourth watch of the night, Iesus went vnto them, walking on the sea.
26 І побачивши ученики, що Він іде по морю, стрівожились, кажучи, що се мара, й кричали з переляку.
And when his disciples sawe him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit, and cried out for feare.
27 Ісус же заговорив зараз до них, глаголючи: Спокойте ся: се я: не лякайтесь.
But straight way Iesus spake vnto them, saying, Be of good comfort, It is I: be not afraide.
28 Петр же, озвавшись, каже до Него: Господи, коли се Ти, зведи менї йти то Тебе по водї.
Then Peter answered him, and saide, Master, if it be thou, bid me come vnto thee on the water.
29 Він же рече: Іди. І вийшов Петр із човна, й пійшов по водї, щоб ійти до Ісуса.
And he saide, Come. And when Peter was come downe out of the shippe, he walked on the water, to goe to Iesus.
30 Та, бачивши сильний вітер, злякавсь, і, почавши тонути, кричав, говорячи: Господи, спаси мене.
But when he sawe a mightie winde, he was afraide: and as he began to sinke, he cried, saying, Master, saue me.
31 Ісус же простяг зараз руку, вхопив його, й рече до него: Маловіре, чого всумнив ся єси?
So immediatly Iesus stretched foorth his hande, and caught him, and saide to him, O thou of litle faith, wherefore diddest thou doubt?
32 І як увійшли вони в човен, утих вітер.
And assoone as they were come into the ship, the winde ceased.
33 А ті, що були в човнї, приступивши, поклонились Йому, кажучи: Істино Божий Син єси.
Then they that were in the ship, came and worshipped him, saying, Of a trueth thou art the Sonne of God.
34 І, попливши, прибули вони в землю Генисарецьку.
And when they were come ouer, they came into the land of Gennezaret.
35 І дознавши Його тамешні люде, послали по всій тій околиці, і приводили до Него всіх недужих;
And when the men of that place knewe him, they sent out into all that countrey rounde about, and brought vnto him all that were sicke,
36 і благали Його, щоб тільки приторкнутись їм до краю одежі Його; й скільки їх доторкувалось, одужували.
And besought him, that they might touch the hemme of his garment onely: and as many as touched it, were made whole.
