Santiago 4

1 ¿De dónde vienen las guerras, y los pleitos entre vosotros? De aquí, es a saber, de vuestras concupiscencias, las cuales batallan en vuestros miembros.

From where [come] disputes and (from where *no) quarrels among you? Surely from there, out of the passions of you those warring in the members of you?

2 Codiciáis, y no tenéis: tenéis envidia y odio, y no podéis alcanzar: combatís y guerreáis, empero no tenéis lo que deseáis, porque no pedís.

You desire and not have; you kill and covet and not are able to obtain; You quarrel and wrangle; Not you have (now *k) because not to ask you;

3 Pedís, y no recibís; porque pedís malamente, para gastar en vuestros deleites.

You ask and not receive, because wrongly you ask, that in the pleasures of you you may spend [it].

4 Adúlteros y adúlteras, ¿no sabéis que la amistad del mundo es enemistad con Dios? Cualquiera, pues, que quisiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios.

(adulterers — and *K) Adulteresses! Surely you know that the friendship with the world hostility with God is? Who[ever] (maybe *N+kO) therefore shall choose a friend to be of the world, an enemy of God is appointed.

5 ¿Pensáis que la Escritura dice sin causa: El espíritu que mora en nosotros, codicia envidiosamente?

Or think you that in vain the Scripture speaks? With envy yearns the Spirit that (he settled *N+kO) in us,

6 Mas él da mayor gracia. Porque él dice: Dios resiste a los soberbios, empero da gracia a los humildes.

Greater however He gives grace; Therefore it says: God [the] proud opposes, to [the] humble however gives grace.

7 Sed pues sujetos a Dios: resistíd al diablo, y huirá de vosotros.

do be subjected therefore to God. do resist (however *no) the devil and he will flee from you,

8 Allegáos a Dios, y él se allegará a vosotros. Pecadores, limpiád las manos; y vosotros de doblado ánimo, purificád los corazones.

do draw near to God and He will draw near to you. do cleanse [your] hands, [you] sinners, and do purify hearts, [you] double-minded.

9 Afligíos, y lamentád, y llorád. Vuestra risa conviértase en lloro, y vuestro gozo en tristeza.

do be grieved and do mourn and do weep; The laughter of you to mourning (should be turned *N+kO) and the joy to gloom.

10 Humilláos delante de la presencia del Señor, y él os ensalzará.

do be humbled in the presence of (the *ko) Lord and He will exalt you.

11 Hermanos, no digáis mal los unos de los otros: el que dice mal de su hermano, y juzga a su hermano, este tal dice mal de la ley, y juzga a la ley; mas si tú juzgas a la ley, no eres guardador de la ley, sino juez.

Not do speak against one another, brothers; The [one] speaking against [his] brother (or *N+kO) judging the brother of him speaks against [the] Law and judges [the] Law; If however [the] Law you judge, not you are a doer of [the] Law but a judge.

12 Solo uno es el dador de la ley, que puede salvar, y perder: ¿Quién eres tú que juzgas a otro?

One there is Lawgiver (and Judge *NO) who is being able to save and to destroy; You yourself (however *no) who are (you who [are] judging *N+kO) the (neighbour? *N+KO)

13 Ea ahora, vosotros los que decís: Vamos hoy y mañana a tal ciudad, y estaremos allá un año, y compraremos mercadería, y ganarémos:

do come now you who [are] saying; Today (or *N+kO) tomorrow (we will go *N+kO) into such city and (will spend *N+kO) there a year (one *K) and (will trade *N+kO) and (will make a profit; *N+kO)

14 Vosotros que no sabéis lo que será mañana. Porque, ¿qué es vuestra vida? Ciertamente es un vapor que se aparece por un poco de tiempo, y después se desvanece.

[you] who not you know what [is] on the next day [is] What [is] (for *ko) the life of you! A vapor just (you are *N+K+o) for a little [while] appearing then (and *k) also vanishing;

15 En lugar de lo cual deberíais decir: Si el Señor quisiere, y si viviéremos, haremos esto o aquello.

Instead [ought] to say you; If the Lord (shall wish *NK+o) both (we will live *N+kO) and (we will do *N+kO) this or that.

16 Mas ahora triunfáis en vuestras soberbias. Toda gloria semejante es mala.

Now however you boast in the arrogance of you; All boasting such evil is.

17 El pecado, pues, está en aquel que sabe hacer lo bueno, y no lo hace.

To [him] knowing therefore good to do and not doing [it], sin to him it is.
