Santiago 3
1 Hermanos míos, no os hagáis muchos de vosotros maestros, sabiendo que recibiremos mayor condenación.
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
2 Porque todos ofendemos en muchas cosas. Si alguno no ofende en palabra, éste es varón perfecto, que también puede con freno gobernar todo el cuerpo.
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
3 He aquí, nosotros ponemos a los caballos frenos en las bocas para que nos obedezcan, y gobernamos todo su cuerpo.
Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
4 He aquí también las naos, siendo tan grandes, y siendo llevadas de impetuosos vientos, son sin embargo gobernadas con un muy pequeño gobernalle por donde quiera que quisiere la gana del que las gobierna.
Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
5 Semejantemente también la lengua es un pequeñito miembro, mas se gloría de grandes cosas. He aquí, un pequeño fuego, ¡cuán grande bosque enciende!
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 Y la lengua es un fuego, digo, un mundo de maldad. Así la lengua está puesta entre nuestros miembros, la cual contamina todo el cuerpo, e inflama la rueda natural; y es inflamada del gehena. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Porque toda naturaleza de bestias fieras, y de aves, y de serpientes, y de los de la mar, se doma, y es domada por la naturaleza humana;
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 Pero ningún hombre puede domar la lengua: es un mal que no puede ser refrenado, y está llena de veneno mortal.
But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Con ella bendecimos a Dios, y al Padre, y con ella maldecimos a los hombres, los cuales son hechos a la semejanza de Dios.
Therewith bless we YHWH, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of YHWH.
10 De una misma boca procede bendición y maldición. Hermanos míos, no conviene que estas cosas sean así hechas.
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 ¿Echa alguna fuente por un mismo manantial agua dulce y amarga?
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
12 Hermanos míos, ¿puede la higuera producir aceitunas; o la vid, higos? Así ninguna fuente puede dar agua salada y dulce.
Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
13 ¿Quién es sabio, y entendido entre vosotros? muestre por buena conversación sus obras en mansedumbre de sabiduría.
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 Empero si tenéis envidia amarga, y contención en vuestros corazones, no os glorieis, ni seáis mentirosos contra la verdad;
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 Porque esta sabiduría no es la que desciende de lo alto, sino que es terrena, animal, y demoniaca.
This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16 Porque donde hay envidia y contención, allí hay tumulto, y toda obra perversa.
For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
17 Empero la sabiduría que es de lo alto, primeramente es pura, después pacífica, modesta, fácil de persuadir, llena de misericordia y de buenos frutos, no juzgadora, no fingida.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 Y el fruto de justicia se siembra en paz para aquellos que hacen paz.
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
