Josué 14

1 He aquí los territorios que los hijos de Israel tomaron en posesión en el país de Canaán. Se los dieron como porción el sacerdote Eleazar, Josué, hijo de Nun, y las cabezas de las casas paternas de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.

These are the areas of land that the people of Israel received as their inheritance in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the the tribal leaders of Israel allotted to them.

2 Las nueve tribus y media recibieron su porción por la suerte, como Yahvé había ordenado por boca de Moisés.

Their inheritance was selected by lot for the nine and one-half tribes, just as Yahweh had commanded by the hand of Moses.

3 Porque Moisés había ya dado su porción a las dos tribus y media al otro lado del Jordán; mas a los levitas no les dio porción alguna en medio de ellos.

For Moses had given the inheritance of the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he gave no inheritance.

4 Los hijos de José formaban dos tribus, Manasés y Efraím; y no se les dio parte a los levitas en el país, fuera de las ciudades de su habitación con los ejidos para sus ganados y su hacienda.

The tribe of Joseph was actually two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. The Levites were given no portion of the inheritance in the land, but only certain cities to live in, with their pasturelands for livestock and for their own material resources.

5 Así como Yahvé había mandado a Moisés, así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel cuando repartieron el país.

The people of Israel did as Yahweh commanded Moses, so they assigned the land.

6 Cuando los hijos de Judá se acercaron a Josué en Gálgala, le dijo Caleb, hijo de Jefone, el ceniceo: “Tú sabes lo que Yahvé dijo a Moisés, varón de Dios, respecto de mí y de ti en Cadesbarnea.

Then the tribe of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, said to him, “You know what Yahweh said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me at Kadesh Barnea.

7 Tenía yo cuarenta años cuando Moisés, siervo de Yahvé, me envió desde Cadesbarnea a explorar el país, y yo le referí lo que tenía en mi corazón.

I was forty years old when Moses the servant of Yahweh sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy on the land. I brought him a report again as it was in my heart to make.

8 Mis hermanos que conmigo habían subido desanimaron al pueblo, pero yo seguí fielmente a Yahvé, mi Dios.

But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt with fear. But I completely followed Yahweh my God.

9 En aquel día juró Moisés, diciendo: «La tierra que tu pie ha pisado será porción tuya y de tus hijos para siempre; por cuanto has seguido fielmente a Yahvé, mi Dios».

Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has walked will be an inheritance for you and for your children forever, because you have completely followed Yahweh my God.'

10 Y ahora, he aquí que Yahvé me ha conservado la vida, como lo prometió, durante los cuarenta y cinco años, desde que Yahvé dijo esta palabra a Moisés cuando Israel andaba por el desierto. Mira, tengo actualmente ochenta y cinco años,

Now, look! Yahweh has kept me alive these forty-five years, just as he said—from the time when Yahweh spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. Now, look! I am this day eighty-five years old.

11 y todavía hoy estoy tan robusto como estaba en aquel tiempo en que Moisés me envió. La fuerza que tenía entonces la tengo todavía hoy, para luchar, para salir y para entrar.

I am still as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me out. My strength is now as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming.

12 Ahora bien, dame esta montaña de la cual habló Yahvé aquel día. Pues tú mismo oíste aquel día, que hay allí enaceos, con ciudades grandes y fortificadas. Quizá Yahvé esté conmigo, de manera que logre yo desposeerlos, como dijo Yahvé.

Now therefore give me this hill country, which Yahweh promised me on that day. For you heard on that day that the Anakim were there with great fortified cities. It may be that Yahweh will be with me and that I will drive them out, just as Yahweh said.”

13 Entonces bendijo Josué a Caleb, hijo de Jefone, y le dio Hebrón por porción suya.

Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron as an inheritance to Caleb son of Jephunneh.

14 Por eso Hebrón vino a ser la porción de Caleb, hijo de Jefone, el ceniceo, hasta este día; por cuanto había seguido fielmente a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel.

Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he completely followed Yahweh, the God of Israel.

15 Hebrón se llamaba antiguamente Kiryat Arba. (Arba) fue el hombre más grande entre los enaceos. Y el país descansó de la guerra.

Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath Arba. (Arba had been the greatest man among the Anakim.) Then the land had rest from war.
