Job 31
1 “Había ya hecho pacto con mis ojos de no mirar a doncella.
"I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?
2 ¿Cuál es, pues, mi porción desde arriba de parte de Dios, y la herencia que desde lo alto me da el Todopoderoso?
For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from Shaddai on high?
3 ¿No es la perdición para el malvado, y la calamidad para los que obran la iniquidad?
Is it not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for evildoers?
4 ¿No observa El mis caminos y cuenta todos mis pasos?
Doesn't he see my ways, and number all my steps?
5 Si yo he seguido la mentira, y mi pie ha corrido tras el fraude,
"If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit
6 ¡péseme Dios en justa balanza y reconozca mi inocencia!
(let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);
7 Si mis pasos se desviaron del camino, si mi corazón se fue tras mis ojos, y si se ha pegado algo a mis manos,
if my step has turned out of the way, if my heart walked after my eyes, if any defilement has stuck to my hands,
8 ¡siembre yo, y coma otro, y sea desarraigado mi linaje!
then let me sow, and let another eat. Yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out.
9 Si mi corazón se ha dejado seducir por una mujer, y si anduve acechando a la puerta de mi prójimo,
"If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor's door,
10 ¡muela para otro mi mujer, y encórvense ajenos sobre ella!
then let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her.
11 Porque esto es cosa nefanda, un crimen que han de juzgar los jueces;
For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges:
12 un fuego que devora hasta la ruina y destruiría todos mis bienes.
For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase.
13 Si yo he despreciado el derecho de mi siervo, o de mi sierva en su litigio conmigo,
"If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me;
14 ¿qué podría hacer yo al levantarse el mismo Dios? Cuando Él viniera a juzgar ¿qué respondería yo?
What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him?
15 El que me hizo en el seno materno, ¿no le hizo también a él? ¿No nos formó uno mismo en la matriz?
Did not he who made me in the womb make him? Did not the same one fashion us in the womb?
16 Si he negado al pobre lo que pedía, si he hecho desfallecer los ojos de la viuda;
"If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
17 si he comido solo mi bocado, sin que comiese de él el huérfano
or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it
18 —desde mi juventud era padre para este, y desde el seno materno he protegido a aquella—
(no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, her have I guided from my mother's womb);
19 si no hice caso del que iba a perecer por falta de vestido, o del pobre que estaba desnudo,
if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;
20 (y lo dejé) sin que me bendijeran sus carnes al calentarse con el vellón de mis ovejas;
if his heart hasn't blessed me, if he hasn't been warmed with my sheep's fleece;
21 si alcé mi mano contra el huérfano, por verme apoyado por los jueces,
if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,
22 ¡despréndase mi hombro de la espalda, y mi brazo sea arrancado del húmero!
then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.
23 Por cuanto temía el castigo de Dios, no he podido resistir a su majestad.
For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because his majesty, I can do nothing.
24 Si he puesto en el oro mi confianza, y al oro he dicho: «Mi seguridad eres tú»;
"If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, 'You are my confidence;'
25 si tuve gozo por mi grande hacienda, y por haber juntado mucho mi mano;
If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;
26 si al ver el resplandor del sol, y la brillante carrera de la luna,
if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor,
27 fue seducido en secreto mi corazón, y mi mano les mandó un beso de mi boca,
and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,
28 también esto sería una maldad, una falta criminal, pues habría negado a Dios en lo alto.
this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have denied the God who is above.
29 Si me holgué de la ruina del que me odiaba, y me gocé cuando le sobrevino el mal;
"If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him;
30 aunque no presté al pecado mi lengua, pidiendo con maldición su muerte;
(yes, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);
31 si no decían las gentes de mi casa: «¿Quién de su alimento no se ha saciado?»
if the men of my tent have not said, 'Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?'
32 pues jamás el forastero se quedó de noche al descubierto, porque yo abría mis puertas al pasajero;
(the foreigner has not lodged in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);
33 si encubrí, como Adán, mi pecado, y oculté en mi seno mi iniquidad,
if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,
34 temiendo a la gran muchedumbre y el desprecio de los parientes, quedando callado y sin salir de mi casa...
because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door?
35 ¡Oh si hubiese quien me escuchase! He aquí mi firma. ¡Respóndame el Todopoderoso! ¡Que escriba también mi adversario su libelo de acusación!
oh that I had one to hear me. (look, here is my signature, let Shaddai answer me); let the accuser write my indictment.
36 Yo lo llevaría sobre mi hombro, me lo ceñiría como diadema.
Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; and I would bind it to me as a crown.
37 (A mi juez) le daré cuenta de todos mis pasos; como a un príncipe me presentaré a él.
I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.
38 Si contra mi clama mi tierra, y a una lloran sus surcos,
If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together;
39 por haber yo comido sus frutos sin pagar y afligido a sus cultivadores,
if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life,
40 ¡názcanme abrojos en vez de trigo, y cizaña en vez de cebada!” Fin de las palabras de Job.
let briars grow instead of wheat, and stinkweed instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.
