Deuteronomio 18

1 Los sacerdotes levitas, toda la tribu de Leví, no tendrán parte ni herencia con (el resto de) Israel; se han de sustentar de los sacrificios de combustión ofrecidos a Yahvé y de la herencia de Él.

The priests, who are Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, will have no portion nor inheritance with Israel; they must eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire as their inheritance.

2 No tendrán herencia entre sus hermanos. Su herencia es Yahvé, como Él se lo tiene dicho.

They must have no inheritance among their brothers; Yahweh is their inheritance, as he said to them.

3 He aquí lo que los sacerdotes tienen derecho de tomar del pueblo, de parte de los que ofrecen un sacrificio, sea un buey o una oveja: se dará al sacerdote la espaldilla, las dos quijadas y el cuajar.

This is the share given to the priests, given to them from the people who offer a sacrifice, whether it be an oxen or a sheep: the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the inner parts.

4 Le darás también las primicias de tu trigo, de tu vino y de tu aceite, con las primicias del esquileo de tus ovejas.

The firstfruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you must give him.

5 Porque Yahvé, tu Dios, le ha elegido de entre todas tus tribus, para estar delante de Él y prestar servicio en nombre de Yahvé, él y sus hijos para siempre.

For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to serve in the name of Yahweh, him and his sons forever.

6 Si un levita llevado por el deseo de su alma sale de alguna de tus ciudades de todo Israel, donde mora, y va al lugar escogido por Yahvé,

If a Levite comes from any of your towns out of all Israel from where he is living, and desires with all his soul to come to the place Yahweh will choose,

7 prestará servicio en nombre de Yahvé, su Dios, como todos sus hermanos levitas que allí están delante de Yahvé.

then he must serve in the name of Yahweh his God as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh.

8 Comerá igual porción que los otros, aparte del producto de la venta de sus bienes patrimoniales.

They must have similar portions to eat, besides of what comes of the sale of his family's inheritance.

9 Cuando hubieres entrado en la tierra que Yahvé tu Dios va a darte, no aprenderás a imitar las abominaciones de esos pueblos.

When you have come into the land that Yahweh your God is giving you, you must not learn to observe the abominations of those nations.

10 No se halle en medio de ti quien haga pasar a su hijo o a su hija por el fuego; ni quien practique la adivinación o el sortilegio, ni quien sea agorero, o mago,

There must not be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or his daughter in the fire, anyone who uses divination or tells fortunes, or reads signs found in a cup, or engages in witchcraft,

11 o encantador; ni quien consulte a espíritus y adivinos, o pregunte a los muertos.

any charmer, anyone who conjurs up spirits, or one who casts spells, or who talks with spirits of the dead.

12 Porque todo aquel que hace estas cosas es abominable ante Yahvé, tu Dios; y a causa de estas abominaciones Yahvé, tu Dios, los va a arrojar delante de ti.

For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh; it is because of these abominations that Yahweh your God is driving them out from before you.

13 Sé escrupuloso en el cumplimiento de la Ley de Yahvé, tu Dios.

You must be blameless before Yahweh your God.

14 Porque estos pueblos que tú vas a desposeer escuchan a agoreros y adivinos, pero a ti te lo ha prohibido Yahvé, tu Dios.

For these nations that you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and divination; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you to do so.

15 Yahvé, tu Dios, te suscitará un Profeta de en medio de ti, de entre tus hermanos como yo; a él escucharéis.

Yahweh your God will raise up for you a prophet from among you, one of your brothers, like me. You must listen to him.

16 Precisamente como tú pediste a Yahvé, tu Dios, en el Horeb, en el día de la asamblea, diciendo: ‘No oiga yo otra vez la voz de Yahvé, mi Dios, ni vea más este gran fuego, para que no muera.’

This is what you asked from Yahweh your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let us not hear again the voice of Yahweh our God, nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.'

17 Entonces me contestó Yahvé: ‘Tienen razón en lo que han dicho.

Yahweh said to me, 'What they have said is good.

18 Les suscitaré un profeta de en medio de sus hermanos, semejante a ti; y pondré mis palabras en su boca, y él les hablará todo cuanto Yo le mandare.

I will raise up a prophet for them from among their brothers, just like you. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them all that I command him.

19 Y si alguno no escuchare mis palabras que él dirá en mi nombre, Yo le pediré cuenta de ello.

It will happen that if anyone does not listen to the words of mine that he speaks in my name, I will require it of him.

20 Pero el profeta que en su presunción dijere en mi nombre lo que Yo no le he mandado decir, o en mi nombre hablare de otros dioses, ese profeta morirá.’

But the prophet who speaks a word arrogantly in my name, a word that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that very prophet must die.'

21 Y si preguntas en tu corazón: ‘¿Cómo podemos conocer la palabra que no ha hablado Yahvé?’ (Sábete que)

This is what you must say in your heart: 'How will we recognize a message that Yahweh has not spoken?'

22 si un profeta habla en nombre de Yahvé, y no se cumple la palabra, ni se realiza, es palabra que no ha hablado Yahvé; en su presunción habló el tal profeta; no le temas.

You will recognize a message that Yahweh has spoken when a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh. If that thing does not occur nor happen, then that is something that Yahweh has not spoken and the prophet has spoken it arrogantly, and you must not be afraid of him.
