lūkaḥ 20
1 athaikadā yīśu rmanidare susaṁvādaṁ pracārayan lokānupadiśati, etarhi pradhānayājakā adhyāpakāḥ prāñcaśca tannikaṭamāgatya papracchuḥ
It happened on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Good News, that the chief priests and scribes came to him with the elders.
2 kayājñayā tvaṁ karmmāṇyetāni karoṣi? ko vā tvāmājñāpayat? tadasmān vada|
They asked him, "Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?"
3 sa pratyuvāca, tarhi yuṣmānapi kathāmekāṁ pṛcchāmi tasyottaraṁ vadata|
He answered them, "I also will ask you one question. Tell me:
4 yohano majjanam īśvarasya mānuṣāṇāṁ vājñāto jātaṁ?
the baptism of Yukhanan, was it from heaven, or from man?"
5 tataste mitho vivicya jagaduḥ, yadīśvarasya vadāmastarhi taṁ kuto na pratyaita sa iti vakṣyati|
They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why did you not believe him?'
6 yadi manuṣyasyeti vadāmastarhi sarvve lokā asmān pāṣāṇai rhaniṣyanti yato yohan bhaviṣyadvādīti sarvve dṛḍhaṁ jānanti|
But if we say, 'From man,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that Yukhanan was a prophet."
7 ataeva te pratyūcuḥ kasyājñayā jātam iti vaktuṁ na śaknumaḥ|
They answered that they did not know where it was from.
8 tadā yīśuravadat tarhi kayājñayā karmmāṇyetāti karomīti ca yuṣmān na vakṣyāmi|
Yeshua said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
9 atha lokānāṁ sākṣāt sa imāṁ dṛṣṭāntakathāṁ vaktumārebhe, kaścid drākṣākṣetraṁ kṛtvā tat kṣetraṁ kṛṣīvalānāṁ hasteṣu samarpya bahukālārthaṁ dūradeśaṁ jagāma|
He began to tell the people this parable. "A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went on a journey for a long time.
10 atha phalakāle phalāni grahītu kṛṣīvalānāṁ samīpe dāsaṁ prāhiṇot kintu kṛṣīvalāstaṁ prahṛtya riktahastaṁ visasarjuḥ|
At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty.
11 tataḥ sodhipatiḥ punaranyaṁ dāsaṁ preṣayāmāsa, te tamapi prahṛtya kuvyavahṛtya riktahastaṁ visasṛjuḥ|
He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12 tataḥ sa tṛtīyavāram anyaṁ prāhiṇot te tamapi kṣatāṅgaṁ kṛtvā bahi rnicikṣipuḥ|
He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out.
13 tadā kṣetrapati rvicārayāmāsa, mamedānīṁ kiṁ karttavyaṁ? mama priye putre prahite te tamavaśyaṁ dṛṣṭvā samādariṣyante|
The lord of the vineyard said, 'What am I to do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that they will respect him.'
14 kintu kṛṣīvalāstaṁ nirīkṣya parasparaṁ vivicya procuḥ, ayamuttarādhikārī āgacchatainaṁ hanmastatodhikārosmākaṁ bhaviṣyati|
"But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'
15 tataste taṁ kṣetrād bahi rnipātya jaghnustasmāt sa kṣetrapatistān prati kiṁ kariṣyati?
They threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16 sa āgatya tān kṛṣīvalān hatvā pareṣāṁ hasteṣu tatkṣetraṁ samarpayiṣyati; iti kathāṁ śrutvā te 'vadan etādṛśī ghaṭanā na bhavatu|
He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others." When they heard it, they said, "May it never be."
17 kintu yīśustānavalokya jagāda, tarhi, sthapatayaḥ kariṣyanti grāvāṇaṁ yantu tucchakaṁ| pradhānaprastaraḥ koṇe sa eva hi bhaviṣyati| etasya śāstrīyavacanasya kiṁ tātparyyaṁ?
But he looked at them, and said, "Then what is this that is written, 'The stone which the builders rejected, this one was made the cornerstone?'
18 aparaṁ tatpāṣāṇopari yaḥ patiṣyati sa bhaṁkṣyate kintu yasyopari sa pāṣāṇaḥ patiṣyati sa tena dhūlivac cūrṇībhaviṣyati|
Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him."
19 sosmākaṁ viruddhaṁ dṛṣṭāntamimaṁ kathitavān iti jñātvā pradhānayājakā adhyāpakāśca tadaiva taṁ dhartuṁ vavāñchuḥ kintu lokebhyo bibhyuḥ|
The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.
20 ataeva taṁ prati satarkāḥ santaḥ kathaṁ tadvākyadoṣaṁ dhṛtvā taṁ deśādhipasya sādhuveśadhāriṇaścarān tasya samīpe preṣayāmāsuḥ|
They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
21 tadā te taṁ papracchuḥ, he upadeśaka bhavān yathārthaṁ kathayan upadiśati, kamapyanapekṣya satyatvenaiśvaraṁ mārgamupadiśati, vayametajjānīmaḥ|
They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
22 kaisararājāya karosmābhi rdeyo na vā?
Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
23 sa teṣāṁ vañcanaṁ jñātvāvadat kuto māṁ parīkṣadhve? māṁ mudrāmekaṁ darśayata|
But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,
24 iha likhitā mūrtiriyaṁ nāma ca kasya? te'vadan kaisarasya|
"Show me a denura. Whose image and inscription are on it?" They answered, "Caesar's."
25 tadā sa uvāca, tarhi kaisarasya dravyaṁ kaisarāya datta; īśvarasya tu dravyamīśvarāya datta|
He said to them, "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
26 tasmāllokānāṁ sākṣāt tatkathāyāḥ kamapi doṣaṁ dhartumaprāpya te tasyottarād āścaryyaṁ manyamānā mauninastasthuḥ|
They weren't able to trap him in his words before the people. And amazed at his answer, they fell silent.
27 aparañca śmaśānādutthānānaṅgīkāriṇāṁ sidūkināṁ kiyanto janā āgatya taṁ papracchuḥ,
Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
28 he upadeśaka śāstre mūsā asmān pratīti lilekha yasya bhrātā bhāryyāyāṁ satyāṁ niḥsantāno mriyate sa tajjāyāṁ vivahya tadvaṁśam utpādayiṣyati|
They asked him, "Teacher, Mushe wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother.
29 tathāca kecit sapta bhrātara āsan teṣāṁ jyeṣṭho bhrātā vivahya nirapatyaḥ prāṇān jahau|
There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.
30 atha dvitīyastasya jāyāṁ vivahya nirapatyaḥ san mamāra| tṛtīyaśca tāmeva vyuvāha;
The second and
31 itthaṁ sapta bhrātarastāmeva vivahya nirapatyāḥ santo mamruḥ|
the third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.
32 śeṣe sā strī ca mamāra|
Afterward the woman also died.
33 ataeva śmaśānādutthānakāle teṣāṁ saptajanānāṁ kasya sā bhāryyā bhaviṣyati? yataḥ sā teṣāṁ saptānāmeva bhāryyāsīt|
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife."
Yeshua said to them, "The people of this age marry and are given to someone to marry. (aiōn g165)
35 kintu ye tajjagatprāptiyogyatvena gaṇitāṁ bhaviṣyanti śmaśānāccotthāsyanti te na vivahanti vāgdattāśca na bhavanti, (aiōn g165)
But those who are regarded as worthy of a place in that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given to someone to marry. (aiōn g165)
36 te puna rna mriyante kintu śmaśānādutthāpitāḥ santa īśvarasya santānāḥ svargīyadūtānāṁ sadṛśāśca bhavanti|
For they cannot die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.
37 adhikantu mūsāḥ stambopākhyāne parameśvara ībrāhīma īśvara ishāka īśvaro yākūbaśceśvara ityuktvā mṛtānāṁ śmaśānād utthānasya pramāṇaṁ lilekha|
But that the dead are raised, even Mushe showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Avraham, the God of Iskhaq, and the God of Yaquv.'
38 ataeva ya īśvaraḥ sa mṛtānāṁ prabhu rna kintu jīvatāmeva prabhuḥ, tannikaṭe sarvve jīvantaḥ santi|
Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him."
39 iti śrutvā kiyantodhyāpakā ūcuḥ, he upadeśaka bhavān bhadraṁ pratyuktavān|
Some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you speak well."
40 itaḥ paraṁ taṁ kimapi praṣṭaṁ teṣāṁ pragalbhatā nābhūt|
They did not dare to ask him any more questions.
41 paścāt sa tān uvāca, yaḥ khrīṣṭaḥ sa dāyūdaḥ santāna etāṁ kathāṁ lokāḥ kathaṁ kathayanti?
He said to them, "Why do they say that the Meshikha is Dawid's son?
42 yataḥ mama prabhumidaṁ vākyamavadat parameśvaraḥ| tava śatrūnahaṁ yāvat pādapīṭhaṁ karomi na| tāvat kālaṁ madīye tvaṁ dakṣapārśva upāviśa|
Dawid himself says in the scroll of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,
43 iti kathāṁ dāyūd svayaṁ gītagranthe'vadat|
until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet."'
44 ataeva yadi dāyūd taṁ prabhuṁ vadati, tarhi sa kathaṁ tasya santāno bhavati?
"Dawid therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?"
45 paścād yīśuḥ sarvvajanānāṁ karṇagocare śiṣyānuvāca,
In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,
46 ye'dhyāpakā dīrghaparicchadaṁ paridhāya bhramanti, haṭṭāpaṇayo rnamaskāre bhajanagehasya proccāsane bhojanagṛhasya pradhānasthāne ca prīyante
"Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;
47 vidhavānāṁ sarvvasvaṁ grasitvā chalena dīrghakālaṁ prārthayante ca teṣu sāvadhānā bhavata, teṣāmugradaṇḍo bhaviṣyati|
who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these will receive greater condemnation."
