اول قرنتیان 13

۱ 1 اگر به زبانهای مردم و فرشتگان سخن گویم و محبت نداشته باشم، مثل نحاس صدادهنده و سنج فغان کننده شده‌ام.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal.

۲ 2 و اگرنبوت داشته باشم و جمیع اسرار و همه علم رابدانم و ایمان کامل داشته باشم بحدی که کوهها رانقل کنم و محبت نداشته باشم، هیچ هستم.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

۳ 3 واگر جمیع اموال خود را صدقه دهم و بدن خود رابسپارم تا سوخته شود و محبت نداشته باشم، هیچ سود نمی برم.

If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing.

۴ 4 محبت حلیم و مهربان است؛ محبت حسد نمی برد؛ محبت کبر و غرور ندارد؛

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

۵ 5 اطوار ناپسندیده ندارد و نفع خود را طالب نمی شود؛ خشم نمی گیرد و سوءظن ندارد؛

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.

۶ 6 ازناراستی خوشوقت نمی گردد، ولی با راستی شادی می‌کند؛

Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.

۷ 7 در همه‌چیز صبر می‌کند و همه را باور می‌نماید؛ در همه حال امیدوار می‌باشد وهر چیز را متحمل می‌باشد.

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

۸ 8 محبت هرگز ساقط نمی شود و اما اگر نبوتهاباشد، نیست خواهد شد و اگر زبانها، انتها خواهد پذیرفت و اگر علم، زایل خواهد گردید.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed.

۹ 9 زیراجزئی علمی داریم و جزئی نبوت می‌نماییم،

For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

۱۰ 10 لکن هنگامی که کامل آید، جزئی نیست خواهد گردید.

but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away.

۱۱ 11 زمانی که طفل بودم، چون طفل حرف می‌زدم و چون طفل فکر می‌کردم و مانندطفل تعقل می‌نمودم. اما چون مرد شدم، کارهای طفلانه را ترک کردم.

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways.

۱۲ 12 زیرا که الحال در آینه بطور معما می‌بینم، لکن آن وقت روبرو؛ الان جزئی معرفتی دارم، لکن آن وقت خواهم شناخت، چنانکه نیز شناخته شدم.

Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

۱۳ 13 و الحال این سه چیز باقی است: یعنی‌ایمان و امید ومحبت. اما بزرگتر از اینها محبت است.

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.
