ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿ 1
The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all [is] vanity.
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
[One] generation passeth away, and [another] generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
5 ೫ ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಉದಯಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಮುಳುಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತಾನು ಉದಯಿಸುವ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಸರವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
6 ೬ ಗಾಳಿಯು ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಬೀಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಉತ್ತರದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗುವುದು. ಅದು ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗಿ, ಗಾಳಿ ಸುತ್ತಳತೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗುತ್ತವೆ.
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
7 ೭ ನದಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಹರಿದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೂ ಸಮುದ್ರವು ತುಂಬುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನದಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬಂದಿವೆಯೋ ಅದೇ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುತ್ತವೆ.
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea [is] not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 ೮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ವಿವರಿಸಲಾರನು. ನೋಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಣ್ಣು ತೃಪ್ತಿಗೊಳ್ಳದು, ಕೇಳುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಿವಿಯು ದಣಿಯದು.
All things [are] full of labour; man cannot utter [it: ] the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun.
10 ೧೦ ‘ನೋಡು, ಇದು ಹೊಸದು’ ಎಂದು ಯಾವ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಾದರೂ ಹೇಳಬಹುದೋ? ನಮಗಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಇದ್ದದ್ದು, ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದಿಂದ ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ.
Is there [any] thing whereof it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
11 ೧೧ ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕವು ಈಗಿನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕವು ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.”
[There is] no remembrance of former [things; ] neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after.
I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 ೧೩ ಆಕಾಶದ ಕೆಳಗಡೆ ನಡೆಯುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟೆನು. ದೇವರು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ನೇಮಿಸಿರುವ ಕೆಲಸವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬಹು ಪ್ರಯಾಸವೇ.
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all [things] that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
[That which is] crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
16 ೧೬ ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಾ, “ನೋಡು, ನನಗಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮನ್ನು ಆಳಿದವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ನನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನೂ, ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ” ಎಂದುಕೊಂಡೆನು.
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all [they] that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
17 ೧೭ ಆಗ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನೂ, ಹುಚ್ಚುತನವನ್ನೂ, ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನತೆಯನ್ನೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಸಲು ನಾನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟೆನು. ಇದು ಸಹ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಅರಿತುಕೊಂಡೆನು.
And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
For in much wisdom [is] much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
