コリント人への手紙第一 9

1 私には自由がないでしょうか。私は使徒ではないのでしょうか。私は私たちの主イエスを見たのではないでしょうか。あなたがたは、主にあって私の働きの実ではありませんか。

Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not all of you my work in the Lord?

2 たとい私がほかの人々に対しては使徒でなくても、少なくともあなたがたに対しては使徒です。あなたがたは、主にあって、私が使徒であることの証印です。

If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are all of you in the Lord.

3 私をさばく人たちに対して、私は次のように弁明します。

Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,

4 いったい私たちには飲み食いする権利がないのでしょうか。

Have we not power to eat and to drink?

5 私たちには、ほかの使徒、主の兄弟たち、ケパなどと違って、信者である妻を連れて歩く権利がないのでしょうか。

Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

6 それともまた、私とバルナバだけには、生活のための働きをやめる権利がないのでしょうか。

Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?

7 いったい自分の費用で兵士になる者がいるでしょうか。自分でぶどう園を造りながら、その実を食べない者がいるでしょうか。羊の群れを飼いながら、その乳を飲まない者がいるでしょうか。

Who goes a warfare any time at his own charges? who plants a vineyard, and eats not of the fruit thereof? or who feeds a flock, and eats not of the milk of the flock?

8 私がこんなことを言うのは、人間の考えによって言っているのでしょうか。律法も同じことを言っているではありませんか。

Say I these things as a man? or says not the law the same also?

9 モーセの律法には、「穀物をこなしている牛に、くつこを掛けてはいけない。」と書いてあります。いったい神は、牛のことを気にかけておられるのでしょうか。

For it is written in the law of Moses, You shall not suppress the mouth of the ox that treads out the corn. Does God take care for oxen?

10 それとも、もっぱら私たちのために、こう言っておられるのでしょうか。むろん、私たちのためにこう書いてあるのです。なぜなら、耕す者が望みを持って耕し、脱穀する者が分配を受ける望みを持って仕事をするのは当然だからです。

Or says he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that plows should plow in hope; and that he that threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11 もし私たちが、あなたがたに御霊のものを蒔いたのであれば、あなたがたから物質的なものを刈り取ることは行き過ぎでしょうか。

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

12 もし、ほかの人々が、あなたがたに対する権利にあずかっているのなら、私たちはなおさらその権利を用いてよいはずではありませんか。それなのに、私たちはこの権利を用いませんでした。かえって、すべてのことについて耐え忍んでいます。それは、キリストの福音に少しの妨げも与えまいとしてなのです。

If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

13 あなたがたは、宮に奉仕している者が宮の物を食べ、祭壇に仕える者が祭壇の物にあずかることを知らないのですか。

Do all of you not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?

14 同じように、主も、福音を宣べ伝える者が、福音の働きから生活のささえを得るように定めておられます。

Even so has the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

15 しかし、私はこれらの権利を一つも用いませんでした。また、私は自分がそうされたくてこのように書いているのでもありません。私は自分の誇りをだれかに奪われるよりは、死んだほうがましだからです。

But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

16 というのは、私が福音を宣べ伝えても、それは私の誇りにはなりません。そのことは、私がどうしても、しなければならないことだからです。もし福音を宣べ伝えなかったら、私はわざわいに会います。

For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 もし私がこれを自発的にしているのなら、報いがありましょう。しかし、強いられたにしても、私には務めがゆだねられているのです。

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 では、私にどんな報いがあるのでしょう。それは、福音を宣べ伝えるときに報酬を求めないで与え、福音の働きによって持つ自分の権利を十分に用いないことなのです。

What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 私はだれに対しても自由ですが、より多くの人を獲得するために、すべての人の奴隷となりました。

For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

20 ユダヤ人にはユダヤ人のようになりました。それはユダヤ人を獲得するためです。律法の下にある人々には、私自身は律法の下にはいませんが、律法の下にある者のようになりました。それは律法の下にある人々を獲得するためです。

And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 律法を持たない人々に対しては、――私は神の律法の外にある者ではなく、キリストの律法を守る者ですが、――律法を持たない者のようになりました。それは律法を持たない人々を獲得するためです。

To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ, ) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 弱い人々には、弱い者になりました。弱い人々を獲得するためです。すべての人に、すべてのものとなりました。それは、何とかして、幾人かでも救うためです。

To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23 私はすべてのことを、福音のためにしています。それは、私も福音の恵みをともに受ける者となるためなのです。

And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

24 競技場で走る人たちは、みな走っても、賞を受けるのはただひとりだ、ということを知っているでしょう。ですから、あなたがたも、賞を受けられるように走りなさい。

Know all of you not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize? So run, that all of you may obtain.

25 また闘技をする者は、あらゆることについて自制します。彼らは朽ちる冠を受けるためにそうするのですが、私たちは朽ちない冠を受けるためにそうするのです。

And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 ですから、私は決勝点がどこかわからないような走り方はしていません。空を打つような拳闘もしてはいません。

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beats the air:

27 私は自分のからだを打ちたたいて従わせます。それは、私がほかの人に宣べ伝えておきながら、自分自身が失格者になるようなことのないためです。

But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
