1 第二款 舊約を以て信仰に由りて義とせらるる事を證す 然れば我等、我父アブラハムは肉身上よりして何を得たりとか謂はん、
What shall we say then that Abraham our father obtained according to the flesh?
2 其はアブラハム行によりて義とせられたらんには誇る所あるべきも、神の御前には之あらざればなり。
for if Abraham were justified by works, he hath something to boast of; but this he hath not before God:
3 蓋聖書に何とか曰へるぞ、[曰く]、「アブラハム神を信ぜり、斯て其事義として彼に歸せられたり」と。
for what saith the scripture? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness."
4 抑働く人の報は、恵とせられずして負債とせらる、
Now to him that worketh the reward is not reckoned as a favor, but as a debt:
5 然れど働かず、不敬者を義とし給ふ神を信仰する人に於ては、其信仰神の恩寵の規定に從ひて義として之に歸せらるるなり。
but to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.
6 斯の如くダヴィドも、人が行に由らずして神より義とせらるるを福なりと云へり、
As David also describeth the blessedness of the man to whom: God imputeth righteousness without works, saying,
7 [曰く]、「其不義を赦され、其罪を蔽はれたる人は福なる哉、
"Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered:
8 罪を主の歸し給はざりし人は福なる哉」と。
blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputeth not sin."
9 然らば此福は、唯割禮[の人]にのみ止るか、将無割禮[の人]にも及ぶか、我等アブラハムの信仰は義として彼に歸せられたりと言ひしが、
Now is this blessedness upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? for we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.
10 其は如何にして歸せられしぞ、割禮の後か無割禮の時か、割禮の後に非ずして無割禮の時なり。
How then was it accounted to him? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
11 且割禮の印は、無割禮の時の信仰に由れる義の印證として之を受けたり。是凡て無割禮にて信仰する人の父となり、彼等にも[信仰を]義として歸せられしめん為なり。
And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had in uncircumcision: that he might be the father of all that believe though not circumcised, that righteousness may be imputed to them also:
12 又獨り割禮ある人々の父たるのみならず、我父アブラハムの無割禮の時の信仰の跡を踏む人々にも割禮の父たらん為なり。
and the father of circumcision to those, who not only are of the circumcision, but also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.
13 蓋アブラハム又は其子孫に、世界の世嗣たるべしとの約束ありしは、律法に由るに非ず信仰の義に由れるなり。
For the promise made to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, was not by the law, but by the righteousness of faith:
14 若律法に由る人々にして世嗣たらば、信仰は空しくなり、約束は廃せられたるなり。
for if they only that are of the law be heirs, faith is made useless, and the promise is become of no effect.
15 其は律法は怒を來し、律法なき處には違法も無ければなり。
Now the law worketh wrath; for where there is no law, there is no transgression.
16 然れば世嗣は信仰に由る、是かの約束が恩寵に從ひて、凡ての子孫に對して堅められん為なり。是は唯律法に由る子孫のみならず、アブラハムの信仰に由りて子孫たる人の為なり。
And therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace, that so the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,
17 蓋録して、「我汝を立てて多くの民の父たらしめたり」とあるが如く、アブラハムは其信ぜし所の神、即ち死したる者を活かし、無きものをば恰も有るものの如くに呼び給ふ神の御前に於て、凡て我等の父たるなり。
(as it is written, "I have made thee a father of many nations,") in the sight of Him whom he believed, even God, who giveth life to the dead, and calleth the things that are not as if they were:
18 彼は「汝の子孫斯の如くならん」と謂はれし儘に、希望すべくも非ざるに猶希望して、多くの民の父とならん事を信ぜり。
who against hope believed, with hope, that he should be the father of many nations, according to that which was said unto him, "So shall thy seed be."
19 而も其信仰弱る事なく、殆百歳に及びて己が身は既に死せるが如く、サラの胎も死せるが如くなるを顧みず、
And not being weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, being about an hundred years old; nor the deadness of Sarah's womb.
20 又神の御約束に就ても訝らず躊躇せず、却て神に光榮を歸し奉りて、
He hesitated not at the promise of God through unbelief: but was strong in faith, giving glory to God,
21 約し給ひし事は悉く遂げ給ふべしと、飽くまで知りて信仰を固めたり、
and being fully persuaded, that what was promised He was able to perform:
22 故に此事義として彼に歸せられたるなり。
and therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
23 此、「義として彼に歸せられたり」と録されたるは、唯彼の為のみならず、
Now it was not written on his account only, that it was imputed to him:
24 亦我等の為なり。即ち我等も、我主イエズス、キリストを死者の中より復活せしめ給ひし神を信仰する時は、[義として]之を歸せらるべし、
but for our sakes also, to him it will be imputed, as we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead:
25 其は彼我等が罪の為に付され、又我等が義とせられん為に復活し給ひたればなり。
who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
