Salmi 83

1 Cantico di Salmo di Asaf O DIO, non istartene cheto; Non tacere, e non riposarti, o Dio.

“A song or psalm of Assaph.” O God, take no rest for thyself: be not silent and keep not still, O God!

2 Perciocchè ecco, i tuoi nemici romoreggiano; E quelli che ti odiano alzano il capo.

For, lo, thy enemies make a tumult, and they that hate thee have lifted up their head.

3 Hanno preso un cauto consiglio contro al tuo popolo, E si son consigliati contro a quelli che son nascosti appo te.

Against thy people they take crafty secret device, and they consult against those whom thou protectest.

4 Hanno detto: Venite, e distruggiamoli, Sì che non sieno più nazione, E che il nome d'Israele non sia più ricordato.

They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; and the name of Israel shall be remembered no more.

5 Perciocchè si son di pari consentimento consigliati insieme, [Ed] han fatta lega contro a te.

For they have consulted cordially together; against thee they make a covenant:

6 Le tende di Edom, e gl'Ismaeliti; I Moabiti, e gli Hagareni;

The tents of Edom, and the Ishmaelites: Moab, and the Hagarenes;

7 I Ghebaliti, gli Ammoniti, e gli Amalechiti; I Filistei, insieme con gli abitanti di Tiro;

Gebal, and 'Ammon, and 'Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

8 Gli Assiri eziandio si son congiunti con loro; Sono stati il braccio de' figliuoli di Lot. (Sela)

Also Asshur is joined with them; they have become an arm unto the children of Lot. (Selah)

9 Fa' loro come [tu facesti] a Madian; Come [a] Sisera, come [a] Iabin, al torrente di Chison;

Do unto them as [unto] Midian; as to Sissera, as to Jabin, at the brook Kishon:

10 I [quali] furono sconfitti in Endor, E furono [per] letame alla terra.

Who were annihilated at 'En-dor; they became as dung for the ground.

11 Fa' che i lor principi sieno come Oreb e Zeeb; E tutti i lor signori come Zeba, e Salmunna;

Render them, their nobles, like 'Oreb, and like Zeeb; yea, like Zebach and like Zalmunna' all their princes;

12 Perciocchè hanno detto: Conquistiamoci gli abitacoli di Dio.

Who said, Let us conquer for ourselves the dwellings of God,

13 Dio mio, falli essere come una palla; Come della stoppia al vento.

O my God, render them like the thistle-down, like stubble before the wind.

14 Come il fuoco brucia un bosco, E come la fiamma divampa i monti.

As the fire burneth up a forest, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire:

15 Così perseguitali colla tua tempesta, E conturbali col tuo turbo.

So pursue them with thy storm, and with thy whirlwind do thou terrify them.

16 Empi le lor facce di vituperio; E [fa' che] cerchino il tuo Nome, o Signore.

Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek thy name, O Lord!

17 Sieno svergognati, e conturbati in perpetuo; E sieno confusi, e periscano;

Let them be made ashamed and terrified for ever and aye; yea, let them be put to the blush and perish:

18 E conoscano che tu, il cui Nome è il Signore, [Sei] il solo Altissimo sopra tutta la terra.

That they may know that thou, whose name is the Eternal, art by thyself alone, the Most High over all the earth.
