2 Timoteo 1

1 PAOLO, apostolo di Gesù Cristo, per la volontà di Dio, secondo la promessa della vita, che [è] in Cristo Gesù,

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, through the will of God, —according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus; —

2 a Timoteo, figliuol diletto, grazia, misericordia, [e] pace, da Dio Padre, e [dal] Signor nostro Cristo Gesù.

Unto Timothy, my beloved child: Favour, mercy, peace, from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 IO rendo grazie a Dio, al qual servo fin da' miei antenati, in pura coscienza; che non resto mai di ritener la memoria di te nelle mie orazioni, notte e giorno;

Grateful, am I, unto God, —unto whom I am rendering divine service from my progenitors in a pure conscience, that, incessant, hold I the remembrance, concerning thee, in my supplications; day and night,

4 desideroso di vederti, ricordandomi delle tue lagrime, acciocchè io sia ripieno d'allegrezza;

longing to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, —in order that, with joy, I may be filled:

5 riducendomi a memoria la fede non finta [che è] in te, la qual prima abitò in Loide tua avola, ed in Eunice tua madre; or son persuaso [che abita] in te ancora.

A reminder, having received, of the unfeigned faith, that is in thee, —such, as dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, —I am persuaded, moreover, that [it dwelleth], in thee also.

6 Per la qual cagione io ti rammemoro che tu ravvivi il dono il Dio, il quale è in te per l'imposizione delle mie mani.

For which cause, I put thee in remembrance, to be stirring up God’s gift of favour, which is in thee through means of the laying on of my hands;

7 Poichè Iddio non ci ha dato spirito di timore; ma di forza, e d'amore, e di correzione.

For God hath not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and love, and correction.

8 Non recarti adunque a vergogna la testimonianza del Signor nostro, nè me suo prigione; anzi partecipa le afflizioni dell'evangelo, secondo la virtù di Dio.

Be not thou, therefore, put to shame—with regard to the witness of our Lord, nor with regard to me his prisoner; but suffer hardship together with the glad-message according to the power of God, —

9 Il qual ci ha salvati, e [ci] ha chiamati per santa vocazione; non secondo le nostre opere, ma secondo il proprio proponimento, e grazia, la quale ci è stata data in Cristo Gesù avanti i tempi de' secoli. (aiōnios g166)

Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to the peculiar purpose and favour—which was given to us in Christ Jesus before age-during times, (aiōnios g166)

10 Ed ora è stata manifestata per l'apparizione del Salvator nostro Gesù Cristo, che ha distrutta la morte, ed ha prodotta in luce la vita, e l'immortalità, per l'evangelo.

But hath now been made manifest through means of the forthshining of our Saviour Christ Jesus, —Who, indeed, hath abolished death, and hath thrown light upon life and incorruptibility, through means of the glad-message:

11 A che io sono stato posto banditore, ed apostolo, e dottor de' Gentili.

Whereunto, I, have been appointed herald and apostle and teacher;

12 Per la qual cagione ancora io soffro queste cose; ma non me ne vergogno; perciocchè io so a cui ho creduto, e son persuaso ch'egli è potente da guardare il mio deposito per quel giorno.

For which cause, these things also, am I suffering; nevertheless I am not being put to shame, for I know him whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is, able, to guard, that which I have entrusted, [to him] unto, that, day.

13 Ritieni la forma delle sane parole, che tu hai udite da me, in fede, e carità, che [è] in Cristo Gesù.

An outline, have thou, of healthful discourses which from me thou hast heard—with the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus:

14 Guarda il buon deposito, per lo Spirito Santo, che abita in noi.

The noble thing entrusted [to thee], do thou guard, through means of the Holy Spirit which dwelleth within us.

15 Tu sai questo: che tutti quelli che [son] nell'Asia si son ritratti da me; de' quali è Figello, ed Ermogene.

Thou knowest this—that all they who are in Asia have turned away from me, —of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.

16 Conceda il Signore misericordia alla famiglia di Onesiforo; perciocchè spesse volte egli mi ha ricreato, e non si è vergognato della mia catena.

The Lord grant mercy unto the house, of Onesiphorus, in that, ofttimes, hath he refreshed me, and, as regardeth my chain, hath not been put to shame,

17 Anzi, essendo a Roma, studiosissimamente mi ha cercato, e [mi] ha trovato.

But, happening to be in Rome, he diligently sought out and found me, —

18 Concedagli il Signore di trovar misericordia presso il Signore in quel giorno. Quanti servigi ancora egli ha fatti in Efeso, tu il sai molto bene.

The Lord grant him to find mercy from [the] Lord in, that, day; —and, how many times, in Ephesus, he hath ministered, better art, thou, getting to know.
