Salmi 140

1 Al maestro del coro. Salmo. Di Davide. Salvami, Signore, dal malvagio, proteggimi dall'uomo violento,

To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Free me, O Jehovah, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man:

2 da quelli che tramano sventure nel cuore e ogni giorno scatenano guerre.

Who devise mischiefs in [their] heart; every day are they banded together for war.

3 Aguzzano la lingua come serpenti; veleno d'aspide è sotto le loro labbra.

They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. (Selah)

4 Proteggimi, Signore, dalle mani degli empi, salvami dall'uomo violento: essi tramano per farmi cadere.

Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked [man], preserve me from the violent man, who devise to overthrow my steps.

5 I superbi mi tendono lacci e stendono funi come una rete, pongono agguati sul mio cammino.

The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way-side; they have set traps for me. (Selah)

6 Io dico al Signore: «Tu sei il mio Dio; ascolta, Signore, la voce della mia preghiera».

I have said unto Jehovah, Thou art my God: give ear, O Jehovah, to the voice of my supplications.

7 Signore, mio Dio, forza della mia salvezza, proteggi il mio capo nel giorno della lotta.

Jehovah, the Lord, is the strength of my salvation: thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

8 Signore, non soddisfare i desideri degli empi, non favorire le loro trame.

Grant not, O Jehovah, the desire of the wicked; further not his device: they would exalt themselves. (Selah)

9 Alzano la testa quelli che mi circondano, ma la malizia delle loro labbra li sommerge.

[As for] the head of those that encompass me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

10 Fà piovere su di loro carboni ardenti, gettali nel bàratro e più non si rialzino.

Let burning coals fall on them; let them be cast into the fire; into deep waters, that they rise not up again.

11 Il maldicente non duri sulla terra, il male spinga il violento alla rovina.

Let not the man of [evil] tongue be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the man of violence to [his] ruin.

12 So che il Signore difende la causa dei miseri, il diritto dei poveri.

I know that Jehovah will maintain the cause of the afflicted one, the right of the needy.

13 Sì, i giusti loderanno il tuo nome, i retti abiteranno alla tua presenza.

Yea, the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name; the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
