Atti 12
1 In quel tempo il re Erode cominciò a perseguitare alcuni membri della Chiesa
In that tyme Herode the kynge stretched forthe his handes to vexe certayne of the congregacion.
2 e fece uccidere di spada Giacomo, fratello di Giovanni.
And he kylled Iames the brother of Iohn with the swerde:
3 Vedendo che questo era gradito ai Giudei, decise di arrestare anche Pietro. Erano quelli i giorni degli Azzimi.
and because he sawe that it pleased ye Iewes he proceded forther and toke Peter also. Then were the dayes of swete breed.
4 Fattolo catturare, lo gettò in prigione, consegnandolo in custodia a quattro picchetti di quattro soldati ciascuno, col proposito di farlo comparire davanti al popolo dopo la Pasqua.
And when he had caught him he put him in preson and delyvered him to. iiii. quaternios of soudiers to be kepte entendynge after ester to brynge him forth to the people.
5 Pietro dunque era tenuto in prigione, mentre una preghiera saliva incessantemente a Dio dalla Chiesa per lui.
Then was Peter kepte in preson. But prayer was made with out ceasynge of the congregacion vnto God for him.
6 E in quella notte, quando poi Erode stava per farlo comparire davanti al popolo, Pietro piantonato da due soldati e legato con due catene stava dormendo, mentre davanti alla porta le sentinelle custodivano il carcere.
And when Herode wolde have brought him oute vnto the people the same nyght slepte Peter bitwene two soudiers bounde with two chaynes and the kepers before the dore kepte the preson.
7 Ed ecco gli si presentò un angelo del Signore e una luce sfolgorò nella cella. Egli toccò il fianco di Pietro, lo destò e disse: «Alzati, in fretta!». E le catene gli caddero dalle mani.
And beholde the angell of ye Lorde was there present and a lyght shyned in the lodge. And smote Peter on the syde and steryd him vp sayinge: aryse vp quyckly. And his cheynes fell of fro his hondes.
8 E l'angelo a lui: «Mettiti la cintura e legati i sandali». Ecosì fece. L'angelo disse: «Avvolgiti il mantello, e seguimi!».
And the angell sayd vnto him: gyrde thy selfe and bynde on thy sandales. And so he dyd. And he sayde vnto him: cast thy mantle aboute the and folowe me.
9 Pietro uscì e prese a seguirlo, ma non si era ancora accorto che era realtà ciò che stava succedendo per opera dell'angelo: credeva infatti di avere una visione.
And he came oute and folowed him and wist not that it was truthe which was done by the angell but thought he had sene a vision.
10 Essi oltrepassarono la prima guardia e la seconda e arrivarono alla porta di ferro che conduce in città: la porta si aprì da sé davanti a loro. Uscirono, percorsero una strada e a un tratto l'angelo si dileguò da lui.
When they were past ye fyrst and ye seconde watche they came vnto yt yron gate yt ledeth vnto the cyte which opened to them by his awne accorde. And they went out and passed thorowe one strete and by and by the angell departed fro him.
11 Pietro allora, rientrato in sé, disse: «Ora sono veramente certo che il Signore ha mandato il suo angelo e mi ha strappato dalla mano di Erode e da tutto ciò che si attendeva il popolo dei Giudei».
And when Peter was come to him selfe he sayde: now I knowe of a surety that the Lorde hath sent his angell and hath delyvered me out of the honde of Herode and from all the waytynge for of the people of ye Iewes.
12 Dopo aver riflettuto, si recò alla casa di Maria, madre di Giovanni detto anche Marco, dove si trovava un buon numero di persone raccolte in preghiera.
And as he consydred the thinge he cam to ye housse of Mary the mother of one Iohn which was called Marke also where many were gaddered to gedder in prayer.
13 Appena ebbe bussato alla porta esterna, una fanciulla di nome Rode si avvicinò per sentire chi era.
As Peter knocked at the entry dore a damsell cam forth to herken named Rhoda.
14 Riconosciuta la voce di Pietro, per la gioia non aprì la porta, ma corse ad annunziare che fuori c'era Pietro.
And when she knew Peters voyce she opened not the entrey for gladnes but ran in and told how Peter stode before the entrey.
15 «Tu vaneggi!» le dissero. Ma essa insisteva che la cosa stava così. E quelli dicevano: «E' l'angelo di Pietro».
And they sayde vnto her: thou arte mad. And she bare them doune yt it was even so. Then sayde they: it is his angell.
16 Questi intanto continuava a bussare e quando aprirono la porta e lo videro, rimasero stupefatti.
Peter cotynued knockinge. When they had opened the dore and sawe him they were astonyed.
17 Egli allora, fatto segno con la mano di tacere, narrò come il Signore lo aveva tratto fuori del carcere, e aggiunse: «Riferite questo a Giacomo e ai fratelli». Poi uscì e s'incamminò verso un altro luogo.
And he beckened vnto them with ye honde to holde their peace and tolde them by what meanes ye Lorde had brought him oute of the preson. And sayde: goo shew these thinges vnto Iames and to the brethren. And he departed and went into a nother place.
18 Fattosi giorno, c'era non poco scompiglio tra i soldati: che cosa mai era accaduto di Pietro?
Assone as it was daye ther was no lyttell a doo amoge the soudyers what was becum of Peter.
19 Erode lo fece cercare accuratamente, ma non essendo riuscito a trovarlo, fece processare i soldati e ordinò che fossero messi a morte; poi scese dalla Giudea e soggiornò a Cesarèa.
When Herode had called for him and founde him not he examined the kepers and comaunded to departe. And he descended from Iewry to Cesarea and ther abode.
20 Egli era infuriato contro i cittadini di Tiro e Sidone. Questi però si presentarono a lui di comune accordo e, dopo aver tratto alla loro causa Blasto, ciambellano del re, chiedevano pace, perché il loro paese riceveva i viveri dal paese del re.
Herode was displeased with them of Tyre and Sydon. And they came all at once and made intercession vnto Blastus the kynges chamberlen and desyred peace because their countrey was norysshed by the kynges londe.
21 Nel giorno fissato Erode, vestito del manto regale e seduto sul podio, tenne loro un discorso.
And upon a daye appoynted Herode arayed him in royall apparell and set him in his seate and made an oraycon vnto them.
22 Il popolo acclamava: «Parola di un dio e non di un uomo!».
And the people gave a shoute sayinge: it is ye voyce of a God and not of a man.
23 Ma improvvisamente un angelo del Signore lo colpì, perché non aveva dato gloria a Dio; e roso, dai vermi, spirò.
And immediatly the angell of ye Lorde smote him because he gave not God the honoure and he was eatyn of wormes and gave vp the goost.
24 Intanto la parola di Dio cresceva e si diffondeva.
And ye worde of God grewe and multiplied.
25 Barnaba e Saulo poi, compiuta la loro missione, tornarono da Gerusalemme prendendo con loro Giovanni, detto anche Marco.
And Barnabas and Paul returned to Ierusalem when they had fulfilled their office and toke with them Iohn which was also called Marcus.
