Amsal 4
1 Hai anak-anak, dengarkanlah nasihat ayahmu! Perhatikanlah itu, maka engkau akan menjadi arif.
Sones, here ye the teching of the fadir; and perseiue ye, that ye kunne prudence.
2 Yang kuajarkan kepadamu ini baik, sebab itu janganlah kau meremehkannya.
Y schal yyue to you a good yifte; forsake ye not my lawe.
3 Ketika aku masih kecil, anak tunggal orang tuaku,
For whi and Y was the sone of my fadir, a tendir sone, and oon `gendride bifore my modir.
4 aku diajar oleh ayahku. Ia berkata, "Ingatlah akan nasihat-nasihatku, janganlah sekali-kali kau melupakannya. Jalankanlah petunjuk-petunjukku, supaya hidupmu bahagia.
And my fadir tauyte me, and seide, Thin herte resseyue my wordis; kepe thou myn heestis, and thou schalt lyue.
5 Jadilah bijaksana dan cerdas! Ingatlah selalu akan nasihat-nasihatku dan janganlah membuangnya."
Welde thou wisdom, welde thou prudence; foryete thou not, nethir bowe thou awey fro the wordis of my mouth.
6 Hargailah hikmat, maka hikmat akan melindungimu; cintailah dia maka ia akan menjaga engkau agar tetap aman.
Forsake thou not it, and it schal kepe thee; loue thou it, and it schal kepe thee.
7 Hal terpenting yang harus pertama-tama kaulakukan ialah berusaha menjadi bijaksana. Apa pun yang kaukejar, yang terutama ialah berusahalah untuk mendapat pengertian.
The bigynnyng of wisdom, welde thou wisdom; and in al thi possessioun gete thou prudence.
8 Junjunglah hikmat, maka engkau akan ditinggikan olehnya. Rangkullah dia, maka ia akan mendatangkan kehormatan kepadamu.
Take thou it, and it schal enhaunse thee; thou schalt be glorified of it, whanne thou hast biclippid it.
9 Ia akan memberikan kepadamu karangan bunga yang elok untuk menjadi mahkotamu.
It schal yyue encresyngis of graces to thin heed; and a noble coroun schal defende thee.
10 Dengarkan aku, anakku! Perhatikanlah baik-baik nasihat-nasihatku, maka umurmu akan panjang.
Mi sone, here thou, and take my wordis; that the yeris of lijf be multiplied to thee.
11 Aku sudah mengajarkan hikmat kepadamu dan menunjukkan cara hidup yang benar.
Y schal schewe to thee the weie of wisdom; and Y schal lede thee bi the pathis of equyte.
12 Kalau engkau hidup demikian, maka engkau tidak akan terhalang pada waktu berjalan, dan tak akan tersandung pada waktu berlari.
In to whiche whanne thou hast entrid, thi goyngis schulen not be maad streit; and thou schalt rennen, and schalt not haue hirtyng.
13 Ingatlah selalu akan ajaran yang sudah kauterima daripadaku. Jagalah itu baik-baik, sebab dengan ajaran itu hidupmu akan berhasil.
Holde thou teching, and forsake it not; kepe thou it, for it is thi lijf.
14 Jangan menuruti cara hidup orang jahat, dan jangan meniru perbuatan mereka.
Delite thou not in the pathis of wyckid men; and the weie of yuele men plese not thee.
15 Janganlah menaruh perhatianmu kepada mereka. Jauhilah mereka dan jalanlah terus!
Fle thou fro it, and passe thou not therbi; bowe thou awei, and forsake it.
16 Orang jahat tidak dapat tidur sebelum melakukan yang tidak baik. Mereka tidak mengantuk sebelum mencelakakan orang lain.
For thei slepen not, `no but thei han do yuele; and sleep is rauyschid fro hem, no but thei han disseyued.
17 Kejahatan dan kekejaman adalah seperti makanan dan minuman bagi mereka.
Thei eten the breed of vnpite, and drinken the wyn of wickidnesse.
18 Jalan orang jahat gelap seperti kelamnya malam. Mereka tersandung dan jatuh tanpa mengetahuinya. Sebaliknya, jalan yang dilalui orang baik adalah seperti terbitnya matahari; makin lama makin terang, sampai akhirnya menjadi terang benderang.
But the path of iust men goith forth as liyt schynynge, and encreessith til to perfit dai.
The weie of wickid men is derk; thei witen not where thei schulen falle.
20 Perhatikanlah kata-kataku, anakku! Dengarkan nasihat-nasihatku.
Mi sone, herkene thou my wordis; and bowe doun thin eeris to my spechis.
21 Janganlah membuangnya, melainkan simpanlah selalu di dalam hatimu.
Go not tho awei fro thyn iyen; kepe thou hem in the myddil of thin herte.
22 Orang yang memahaminya akan hidup dan menjadi sehat.
For tho ben lijf to men fyndynge thoo, and heelthe `of al fleisch.
23 Jagalah hatimu baik-baik, sebab hatimu menentukan jalan hidupmu.
With al keping kepe thin herte, for lijf cometh forth of it.
24 Janganlah sekali-kali mengucapkan sesuatu yang tidak benar. Jauhkanlah ucapan-ucapan dusta dan kata-kata yang dimaksud untuk menyesatkan orang.
Remoue thou a schrewid mouth fro thee; and backbitynge lippis be fer fro thee.
25 Hendaklah wajahmu memancarkan kejujuran hatimu; tak perlu engkau berlaku seolah-olah ada udang di balik batu.
Thin iyen se riytful thingis; and thin iyeliddis go bifore thi steppis.
26 Pikirlah baik-baik sebelum berbuat, maka engkau akan berhasil dalam segala usahamu.
Dresse thou pathis to thi feet, and alle thi weies schulen be stablischid.
27 Jauhilah yang jahat, dan hiduplah dengan jujur. Janganlah sekali-kali menyimpang dari jalan yang benar.
Bowe thou not to the riytside, nether to the leftside; turne awei thi foot fro yuel. For the Lord knowith the weies that ben at the riytside; but the weies ben weiward, that ben at the leftside. Forsothe he schal make thi goyngis riytful; and thi weies schulen be brouyt forth in pees.
