Psalm 129

1 Wallfahrtslieder. Sie haben mich viel bedrängt von meiner Jugend an - so spreche Israel! -

Often have they fought against me from my youth, let Israel now say.

2 Sie haben mich viel bedrängt von meiner Jugend an und mich doch nicht überwältigt.

Often have they fought against me from my youth: but they could not prevail over me.

3 Auf meinem Rücken haben sie geackert, haben ihr Pflugland weit ausgedehnt.

The wicked have wrought upon my back: they have lengthened their iniquity.

4 Jahwe, der gerechte, hat der Gottlosen Strang zerhauen.

The Lord who is just will cut the necks of sinners:

5 Beschämt müssen werden und zurückweichen alle, die Zion hassen.

Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Sion.

6 Sie müssen wie das Gras auf den Dächern werden, das verdorrt, bevor man es herauszieht,

Let them be as grass on the tops of houses: which withered before it be plucked up:

7 womit kein Schnitter seine Hand gefüllt, noch seinen Busen ein Garbenbinder.

Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand: nor he that gathereth sheaves his bosom.

8 Und die des Wegs vorüberkommen, sprechen nicht: “Der Segen Jahwes sei über euch! Wir segnen euch im Namen Jahwes!”

And they that have passed by have not said: The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we have blessed you in the name of the Lord.
