Job 14
1 Der Mensch, vom Weibe geboren, kurz von Tagen und gesättigt mit Unruhe, -
Man, that is born of a woman, Is of few days, and full of trouble.
2 wie eine Blume geht er auf und welkt dahin, flieht wie der Schatten und hat nicht Bestand.
He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: He fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
3 Und über solchen hältst du deine Augen offen und mich ziehst du vor dein Gericht!
And dost thou open thine eyes upon such a one, And bringest me into judgment with thee?
4 Wie könnte wohl ein Reiner von Unreinen kommen? Nicht einer!
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
5 Wenn seine Tage fest bestimmt sind, die Zahl seiner Monde feststeht bei dir, du ihm ein Ziel gesetzt hast, das er nicht überschreiten kann,
Seeing his days are determined, The number of his months is with thee, And thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
6 so blicke weg von ihm, daß er raste und wie ein Löhner seines Tages froh werde!
Look away from him, that he may rest, Till he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day.
7 Denn für den Baum zwar giebt's ein Hoffen: wird er abgehauen, so treibt er neue Sprossen, und sein Schößling bleibt nicht aus.
For there is hope of a tree, If it be cut down, that it will sprout again, And that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
8 Oba auch seine Wurzel in der Erde altert, und sein Stumpf im Staube abstirbt,
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, And the stock thereof die in the ground;
9 vom Duft des Wassers schlägt er wieder aus und treibt Zweige wie ein frisch gepflanztes Reis.
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, And put forth boughs like a plant.
10 Doch stirbt ein Mann, so liegt er hingestreckt, verscheidet ein Mensch - wo ist er dann?
But man dieth, and is laid low: Yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
11 Wie die Gewässer schwinden aus dem See, der Strom versiegt und vertrocknet,
[As] the waters fail from the sea, And the river wasteth and drieth up;
12 so legt der Mensch sich nieder und steht nicht wieder auf; bis der Himmel vergeht, erwachen sie nicht und regen sich nicht aus ihrem Schlaf.
So man lieth down and riseth not: Till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, Nor be roused out of their sleep.
13 O daß du mich in der Unterwelt verwahrtest, mich bärgest, bis dein Zorn sich gelegt, ein Ziel mir setztest und dann mein gedächtest! - (Sheol h7585)
Oh that thou wouldest hide me in Sheol, That thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, That thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Sheol h7585)
14 Wenn der Mensch stirbt, lebt er dann wieder auf? Dann wollte ich alle meine Kampfestage ausharren, bis meine Ablösung käme!
If a man die, shall he live [again]? All the days of my warfare would I wait, Till my release should come.
15 Du würdest rufen, und ich dir antworten; nach deiner Hände Werk würdest du dich sehnen.
Thou wouldest call, and I would answer thee: Thou wouldest have a desire to the work of thy hands.
16 Jetzt aber zählst du meine Schritte, gehst an meiner Sünde nicht vorüber.
But now thou numberest my steps: Dost thou not watch over my sin?
17 Versiegelt ruht ihm Beutel mein Vergehen, und meine Schuld verklebtest du.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, And thou fastenest up mine iniquity.
18 Aber wie der Berg im Sturze zerfällt, und der Fels von seiner Stelle rückt,
But the mountain falling cometh to nought; And the rock is removed out of its place;
19 wie das Wasser Steine zerreibt, und seine Fluten das Erdreich fortschwemmen, so hast du des Menschen Hoffen vernichtet.
The waters wear the stones; The overflowings thereof wash away the dust of the earth: So thou destroyest the hope of man.
20 Du vergewaltigst ihn für immer, und er geht dahin, entstellst sein Antlitz und lässest ihn dahinfahren.
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth; Thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
21 Kommen seine Kinder zu Ehren - er weiß es nicht, sinken sie herab - er hat nicht acht auf sie.
His sons come to honor, and he knoweth it not; And they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
22 Nur über ihn selbst fühlt Schmerz sein Leib, und über ihn selbst trauert seine Seele!
But his flesh upon him hath pain, And his soul within him mourneth.
