Jesaja 44
1 "Nun, Jakob, höre, du mein Knecht, und Israel den ich erkoren!"
Now, then—hear, O Jacob, my Servant, —and Israel whom I have chosen:
2 So spricht der Herr, der dich gemacht und dich im Mutterschoß gebildet hat, dein Helfer. "Jakob, mein Knecht, sei ohne Furcht, und Jeschurun, den ich erkoren!
Thus, saith Yahweh—Who made thee and formed thee from birth, Who helpeth thee: Do not fear O my Servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen;
3 Ich gieße Wasser auf ein durstig Land und auf ein ausgedorrtes Wasserbäche. Ich gieße meinen Geist auf deinen Stamm und meinen Segen über deine Sprößlinge.
For I will pour, Water upon the thirsty soil, and Floods upon the dry ground, —I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;
4 Sie sprießen wie im Sumpf das Gras, wie Weiden an den Wasserbächen.
So will they spring up among the grass, As willows by the water-courses:
5 Der sagt: 'Dem Herrn gehöre ich', und der nennt stolz den Namen Jakobs, und der schreibt sich auf seine Hand 'dem Herrn gehörig' und gibt den Namen Israel den Kindern."
This one, will say Yahweh’s, am I, and That one, will call himself by the name of Jacob, and Yonder one will write on his hand—Yahweh’s, And after the name of Israel, will one entitle himself.
6 So spricht der Herr, der König Israels und sein Erlöser, Herr der Heerscharen: "Ich bin der Erste, ich der Letzte, und außer mir gibt's keinen Gott.
Thus saith Yahweh—King of Israel, Even his Redeemer, Yahweh of hosts, —I, am, First, and, I, Last, And besides me, there is no God.
7 Wer ist wie ich, der sage es, vermelde es und lege mir nur irgend etwas vor, seit ich ein ewig Volk erschaffen! Das Künftige, das kommen wird, das zeige er zu seinem Ruhme an!
Who then, like me, can call, and declare it, and order it, for me, Seeing that I appointed an age-abiding people, —Or things yet to be, and that shall come to pass, Let them declare on their part.
8 Seid ohne Furcht und ohne Sorgen! Ja, habe ich nicht längst zuvor die Dinge kundgemacht und angezeigt? Ihr müßt es mir bezeugen, ob's einen Gott gibt außer mir. Von einem andern Felsen weiß ich nichts.
Do not ye dread, nor yet be alarmed, Have I not from olden time, told thee and declared? So that, ye, are my witnesses, —Whether there is a GOD besides me? Or is no Rock—I knew of none!
9 Die Götzenbilder allesamt sind nichts, und ihre schönsten Werke helfen nichts. Bezeugen müssen sie dies selbst; sie sehen nichts und merken nichts. So muß sich schämen,
The fashioners of an image—all of them, are emptiness, And, the things they delight in, cannot profit, —And, their, witnesses, they, neither see nor know, That they may be ashamed.
10 wer einen Götzen bildet und ein unnütz Bild sich gießt.
Who hath fashioned a GOD, Oran image, hath molten? It cannot profit!
11 Sich schämen müssen alle die Gesellen. Die Meister selber werden rot, und stehen sie versammelt beieinander, geraten sie in Angst und Scham zumal.
Lo! all his partners, turn pale, Even, the artificers themselves, are of the sons of earth, —Let them gather themselves together—all of them. Let them take their stand, Let them dread, and turn pale, together!
12 Der Schmied schlägt Eisen ab und tut's in Kohlenglut und formt es mit den Hämmern und schlägt mit seinem starken Arm darauf. Doch hungert's ihn, dann wird er matt, und trinkt er Wasser nicht, dann wird er kraftlos.
As for the smith, [with his] cutting-tool, —When he hath wrought in the live coals, And, with hammers, hath fashioned it, —And hath wrought it with his strong arm, Anon he is hungry, and hath no strength, He hath drunk no water and so hath become faint!
13 Der Tischler spannt die Meßschnur aus und zeichnet's mit dem Stifte auf und gibt durch Hobeln ihm Gestalt und formt es nach dem Zirkel. Er macht's zu einer Mannsfigur, zum schönen Menschenbild; in einem Hause soll es wohnen.
As for the carpenter, —He hath stretched out a line hath drawn it with a pencil, Hath made it with carving tools, With compasses, hath rounded it, —And so hath made it after the figure of a great man, After the beauty of a son of earth, that it may remain in a house!
14 Ein andrer wählt beim Zedernfällen Fichten oder Eichen aus. Ein dritter zieht sich Waldesbäume groß, sich Fichten pflanzend, die durch Regen wachsen.
When one was cutting him down cedars, Then took he a holm-tree and an oak, And secured them for himself, among the trees of the forest, —He planted a fir-tree and the pouring rain made it grow;
15 Dem Menschen dient es dann zum Heizen; er nimmt davon und wärmt sich auf; auch heizt er ein und backt sich Brot. Auch einen Gott macht er davon und betet an ein Götzenbild, vor dem er niederfällt.
So it serveth for a man to burn, And he hath taken of the branches and warmed himself, Also he kindleth a fire, and baketh bread, —Also he maketh a GOD, and hath bowed himself down, Hath made of it a carved image, and adored it:
16 Im Feuer hat er einen Teil davon verbrannt, und über seinen Kohlen buk er Brot, und über einem andern Teile briet er Fleisch und aß den Braten, wurde satt und wärmte sich, rief endlich aus: 'Eija, ich bin durchwärmt, ich habe an dem Feuer mich erquickt.'
The half thereof, hath he burned in the fire, Over half thereof, he eateth flesh, He roasteth roast, that he may be satisfied, —Also he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen a blaze;
17 Den Rest davon hat er zu einem Gott, zu seinem Götzenbild gemacht, davor sich bückend, fällt er nieder, fleht zu ihm und spricht: 'Errette mich! Mein Gott bist du!'
And the residue thereof, Into a GOD, he maketh, Into his carved image, —Adoreth it, and boweth down and prayeth unto it, And saith Deliver me, for, my GOD, thou art!
18 So unverständig sind sie, so gedankenlos. Verklebt sind ihre Augen; sie sehen nichts, und ihre Herzen merken nichts.
They have not taken note, neither can they perceive, —He hath besmeared—past seeing—their eyes, Past understanding, their hearts;
19 Nichts kommt ihm in den Sinn. Nicht soviel Einsicht hat er und Verstand, so daß er spräche: 'Im Feuer habe ich doch einen Teil verbrannt und Brot in seiner Glut gebacken und Fleisch gebraten und verzehrt. Den Rest davon soll ich zum Greuelbilde machen und einen Holzklotz anbeten?'
And no one reflecteth—There is neither knowledge nor discernment—to say, Half thereof, have I burned up in the fire Moreover also I have baked, on the coals thereof, bread, I roasted flesh, and have been eating, —And of the remainder thereof, an abomination, shall I make? And, to a log of wood, shall I pay adoration?
20 Der Asche freut er sich, betört sein leicht betörbar Herz. Er rettet seine Seele nicht, so daß er spräche: 'Ist dies in meiner Rechten hier nicht Tand?' -
He is feeding on ashes, A deluded heart, hath turned him aside, —And he cannot deliver his own soul nor say, Is there not a falsehood in my right hand?
21 Denk daran, Jakob, und Israel, daß du mein Diener bist, daß ich dich mir zum Knecht erzogen! Du bleibst mir unvergessen, Israel!
Remember these things, O Jacob, And, Israel, —for, my Servant, thou art, —I have fashioned thee, a Servant of mine, thou art.
22 Ich wische wie ein Wölkchen deine Missetaten aus, wie eine Wolke deine Sündenstrafen. Zurück zu mir! Denn ich erlöse dich!"
O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me, I have wiped out, As with a thick cloud, thy transgressions, And as with a broad cloud, thy sins, —Return unto me, for I have redeemed thee.
23 Ihr Himmel, jauchzet! Denn der Herr vollbringt's. Frohlocket laut, ihr Erdenklüfte! Ihr Berge, brecht in Jubel aus, du Wald und alle Bäume drin! Jakob erlöst der Herr und prangt mit Israel.
Shout in triumph ye heavens for Yahweh, hath effectually wrought. Shout, O ye underparts of the earth, Ring out, Ye mountains, into cries of triumph, Thou forest, and every tree therein, —For, Yahweh, hath redeemed, Jacob, And in Israel, will he get himself glory.
24 So spricht der Herr, der dich erlöst, der dich im Mutterschoß gebildet. "Ich bin der Herr, der alles macht und der allein den Himmel ausgespannt und selbst die Erde hingebreitet,
Thus, saith Yahweh Who hath redeemed thee, Who hath fashioned thee from birth, —I—Yahweh, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens, alone, Spreading forth the earth, of myself;
25 der eitel macht der Schwätzer Zeichen, Wahrsager zu Toren, zum Rückzug Weise bringt, der ihre Künste narrt,
Frustrating the signs of praters, And, diviners, he confoundeth, —Turning wise men backwards, And their knowledge, he maketh folly;
26 doch seiner Knechte Wort bestätigt, seiner Boten Plan vollbringt und von Jerusalem so spricht: 'Besiedelt werde es!' und von den Städten Judas: 'Sie werden wieder aufgebaut. Herstellen will ich ihre Trümmer',
Establishing the word of his Servant, And the counsel of his Messengers, he maketh good, —Who saith of Jerusalem—She shall be inhabited! And of the cities of Judah—They shall be built! And the ruins thereof, will I set up!
27 der spricht auch zu der Tiefe: 'Versiege! Austrocknen will ich deine Fluten',
Who saith to the deep—Be dry and Thy rivers, will I drain!
28 der spricht von Cyrus: 'Erfüllen soll er meinen Plan und meinen Wunsch vollauf.'" Er spreche von Jerusalem: "Es werde wieder aufgebaut; der Tempel werde neu gegründet!"
Who saith of Cyrus—My Shepherd! and All my pleasure, shall he make good Even saying of Jerusalem—She shall be built! And of the temple—Be her foundation laid!
