Psaumes 49
1 Au maître chantre. Cantique des fils de Coré. Ecoutez ces choses, vous tous les peuples; prêtez l'oreille, vous tous habitants du monde,
To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Hear this, all [ye] people; give ear, all [ye] inhabitants of the world:
2 et vous enfants des hommes, et vous fils des humains, tous ensemble, et le riche et le pauvre!
Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
3 Ma bouche exposera la sagesse, et mon cœur en méditant a trouvé la science:
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart [shall be] of understanding.
4 mon oreille en écoute les inspirations, et je vais au son du luth révéler ma pensée.
I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5 Que craindrais-je au jour du malheur, quand je suis enveloppé de la malice de ceux qui me tendent des embûches,
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, [when] the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
6 qui se confient en leurs biens, et sont vains de leur grande richesse?
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7 L'homme ne saurait racheter son frère, ni donner à Dieu une rançon pour lui.
None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
8 Il en coûte trop pour racheter une vie, et jamais il n'aura les moyens
(For the redemption of their soul [is] precious, and it ceaseth for ever: )
9 de donner à quelqu'un une vie éternelle, ni de lui épargner la vue du tombeau.
That he should still live for ever, [and] not see corruption.
10 Non! il le verra! Les sages meurent, et avec eux le fou et le stupide périssent, et laissent leurs biens à d'autres.
For he seeth [that] wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11 Leurs vœux sont d'avoir des maisons éternelles, et des demeures qui durent aux siècles des siècles: leurs noms sont célèbres sur la terre.
Their inward thought [is, that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [and] their dwelling places to all generations; they call [their] lands after their own names.
12 Mais l'homme dans la splendeur n'est pas permanent, il est assimilé aux animaux que l'on égorge.
Nevertheless man [being] in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts [that] perish.
13 Telle est la voie sur laquelle ils se fient; et ceux qui les suivent, approuvent leur langage. (Pause)
This their way [is] their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. (Selah)
14 Comme un troupeau ils sont chassés aux Enfers; la Mort devient leur berger, et les justes les foulent sous leurs pas; en un instant leur figure est la proie des Enfers, bannie du séjour qu'on lui avait préparé. (Sheol h7585)
Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. (Sheol h7585)
15 Cependant Dieu arrachera mon âme au pouvoir des Enfers, qui voudraient me saisir. (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
16 Ne crains point, quand un homme s'enrichit, quand sa maison croît en splendeur!
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
17 Car il n'emporte pas tout en mourant, sa splendeur après lui ne descendra pas.
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
18 Que dans sa vie il se trouve heureux, qu'on te vante du bien-être que tu sais te donner;
Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and [men] will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
19 il te faut rejoindre tes pères, qui jamais ne reverront la lumière.
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
20 L'homme qui est dans la splendeur, et n'a pas la sagesse, est assimilé aux animaux que l'on égorge.
Man [that is] in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts [that] perish.
