Proverbes 16
1 A l'homme de former des plans en son cœur; mais à Dieu d'exaucer ce qu'exprime la langue.
The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, [is] from the LORD.
2 Toutes les voies d'un homme sont pures à ses yeux; mais l'Éternel pèse les cœurs.
All the ways of a man [are] clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
3 Repose-toi sur Dieu de tes affaires, et tes plans seront assurés.
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4 L'Éternel a fait toutes choses pour leur fin; ainsi, l'impie pour le jour du malheur.
The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Tout orgueilleux est pour l'Éternel une abomination; en aucun temps il ne demeure impuni.
Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6 L'amour et la fidélité expient la faute, et la crainte de l'Éternel fait fuir le mal.
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD [men] depart from evil.
7 Si l'Éternel est favorable à la voie d'un homme, Il réconcilie même ses ennemis avec lui.
When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Mieux vaut peu avec la justice, qu'un gros revenu avec l'iniquité.
Better [is] a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
9 L'homme en son cœur se trace sa voie; c'est l'Éternel qui dirige sa marche.
A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
10 Les lèvres du roi prononcent des oracles; et, quand il juge, sa bouche n'est point inique.
A divine sentence [is] in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
11 Le poids et la balance justes viennent de l'Éternel; Il a fait toutes les pierres qu'on a dans sa bourse.
A just weight and balance [are] the LORD’s: all the weights of the bag [are] his work.
12 Les rois auront horreur de faire le mal; car par la justice un trône est affermi.
[It is] an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Les bonnes grâces du roi seront pour les lèvres vraies, et celui qui parle sincèrement, aura son amour.
Righteous lips [are] the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14 Colère de roi, messages de mort: aussi le sage la calmera.
The wrath of a king [is as] messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15 Un regard riant du roi donne la vie, et sa faveur est comme un nuage pluvieux du printemps.
In the light of the king’s countenance [is] life; and his favour [is] as a cloud of the latter rain.
16 Combien la possession de la sagesse vaut mieux que l'or! et que la possession de la sagesse est préférable à l'argent.
How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17 La voie des gens de bien, c'est de fuir le mal; il préserve sa vie celui qui surveille ses voies.
The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18 L'orgueil précède la ruine, et la présomption, la chute.
Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Mieux vaut vivre humble avec les pauvres, que de partager le butin avec les superbes.
Better [it is to be] of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 Qui dans les affaires agit sensément, trouve le bonheur; et heureux qui se confie dans l'Éternel!
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy [is] he.
21 L'homme au cœur sage est appelé sensé, et l'aménité des paroles avance l'instruction.
The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22 La prudence pour qui l'a est une source de vie; les insensés sont punis par leur propre folie.
Understanding [is] a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools [is] folly.
23 Le cœur du sage rend sa bouche sensée, et par ses discours avance l'instruction.
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
24 Les discours gracieux sont des rayons de miel, doux au cœur, restaurants pour le corps.
Pleasant words [are as] an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Telle voie semble droite à l'homme; mais elle aboutit au chemin de la mort.
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.
26 La faim du travailleur travaille pour lui, car sa bouche lui en impose la charge.
He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
27 L'homme dangereux prépare le malheur, et sur ses lèvres il y a comme un feu qui brûle.
An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips [there is] as a burning fire.
28 L'homme tortueux excite les divisions; et le rapporteur désunit les intimes.
A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
29 L'homme qui veut nuire, séduit son prochain, et l'engage dans une voie qui n'est pas la bonne;
A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way [that is] not good.
30 il ferme les yeux pour méditer la fraude, il serre les lèvres… il a consommé le crime.
He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31 Les cheveux blancs sont une couronne d'honneur; c'est sur le chemin de la justice qu'on la trouve.
The hoary head [is] a crown of glory, [if] it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 L'homme patient est supérieur au héros, et celui qui a l'empire de son âme, au preneur de villes.
[He that is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33 On jette le sort dans le pan de la robe; mais sa décision vient de l'Éternel.
The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof [is] of the LORD.
