Job 27

1 Et Job continuant à parler en discours relevés, dit:

Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

2 Par le Dieu vivant qui me prive de mon droit, et par le Tout-puissant qui a mis l'amertume dans mon âme,

[As] God liveth, [who] hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, [who] hath vexed my soul;

3 (car je ne perds pas haleine encore, et j'ai toujours dans mes narines le souffle de Dieu)

All the while my breath [is] in me, and the spirit of God [is] in my nostrils;

4 non! mes lèvres ne calomnieront pas, et ma langue ne dira rien de faux.

My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.

5 Loin de moi la pensée de vous donner raison! Jusqu'à mon dernier soupir, je ne me laisserai pas ravir mon innocence;

God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.

6 je tiens à ma justice, et je n'y renoncerai point; mon cœur ne me reproche aucun de mes jours.

My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach [me] so long as I live.

7 Que mon ennemi soit tel que l'impie, et mon adversaire semblable au méchant!

Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.

8 Eh! quel espoir a l'impie, quand Dieu tranche, quand Il lui arrache sa vie?

For what [is] the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?

9 Dieu écoute-t-Il les cris qu'il pousse, quand l'angoisse l'assaille?

Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?

10 Est-ce dans le Tout-puissant qu'il cherche sa joie? Est-ce Dieu qu'il invoque dans tous les moments?

Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?

11 Je veux vous montrer comment agit Dieu, ne pas vous celer la pensée du Tout-puissant.

I will teach you by the hand of God: [that] which [is] with the Almighty will I not conceal.

12 Je l'accorde, vous avez bien observé! mais pourquoi tirez-vous une conclusion vaine?

Behold, all ye yourselves have seen [it; ] why then are ye thus altogether vain?

13 Tel est bien le lot que Dieu donne à l'impie, et la part que le méchant obtient du Tout-puissant:

This [is] the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, [which] they shall receive of the Almighty.

14 s'il a nombre de fils, c'est une proie pour l'épée, et ses rejetons n'ont pas de pain à manger;

If his children be multiplied, [it is] for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

15 ceux qui restent de lui, sont conduits par la mort au tombeau, et leurs veuves ne pleurent point;

Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.

16 qu'il entasse l'argent comme la poussière, qu'il se procure un riche vestiaire,

Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;

17 il l'acquiert, et le juste s'en revêt, et l'homme de bien a son argent en partage;

He may prepare [it], but the just shall put [it] on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

18 il bâtit une maison fragile comme celle de la teigne, comme la guérite qu'élève le garde-champêtre;

He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth [that] the keeper maketh.

19 riche il se couche, et il ne se relève pas; il ouvre les yeux, et il n'est plus.

The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he [is] not.

20 Comme des eaux les terreurs l'atteignent, la nuit l'ouragan le dérobe,

Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.

21 le vent d'orient l'enlève et part, et dans un tourbillon le porte loin de ses lieux.

The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.

22 [Dieu] tire sur lui sans pitié il voudrait par la fuite échapper à Sa main.

For [God] shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.

23 On l'accompagne de battements de mains et de sifflements, quand il quitte ses lieux.

[Men] shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.
