1 Samuel 19
1 Et Saül parla à Jonathan, son fils, et à tous ses serviteurs de faire mourir David. Et Jonathan, fils de Saul, était très affectionné à David.
And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
2 Et Jonathan informa David en ces termes: Saül, mon père, cherche à te faire mourir; dès-lors sois dès le matin bien sur tes gardes, reste dans la retraite et cache-toi;
But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret [place], and hide thyself:
3 quant à moi, je sortirai et me tiendrai aux côtés de mon père dans la campagne où tu seras, et je parlerai de toi à mon père et te communiquerai tout ce que je pourrai découvrir.
And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou [art], and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.
4 Et Jonathan parla en bien de David à Saül, son père, et lui dit: Que le Roi ne se rende pas coupable envers son serviteur, envers David, car il ne s'est point rendu coupable envers toi; au contraire, ses actes te sont très avantageux;
And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works [have been] to thee-ward very good:
5 et il a mis sa vie au jeu et il a défait le Philistin, et l'Éternel a opéré une grande délivrance pour tout Israël. Tu l'as vu et t'en es réjoui. Et pourquoi te rendrais-tu coupable sur le sang innocent en faisant mourir David sans raison?
For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest [it], and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?
6 Et Saül écouta la voix de Jonathan et fit ce serment: Par la vie de l'Éternel il ne sera pas mis à mort.
And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, [As] the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.
7 Alors Jonathan appela David et il lui rapporta tous ces discours, et Jonathan ramena David à Saül, et il fut en sa présence sur le même pied que ci-devant.
And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.
8 Et il y eut de nouveau guerre, et David se mit en campagne, et en vint aux mains avec les Philistins, et il leur fit essuyer une grande défaite, et ils fuirent devant lui.
And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.
9 Alors l'Éternel mit Saül sous l'influence d'un esprit sinistre; or il restait dans sa maison et il avait sa pique en main,
And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with [his] hand.
10 et David de sa main jouait du luth. Et Saül chercha à percer avec sa pique David d'un coup qui l'attachât à la paroi; mais David l'esquiva, et la pique se planta dans la paroi, et David s'enfuit et s'échappa cette nuit même.
And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.
11 Cependant Saül envoya des agents au logis de David pour le surveiller et le tuer au matin. Mais Michal, sa femme, lui donna cet avis: Si tu ne sauves pas ta vie cette nuit, demain tu reçois la mort.
Saul also sent messengers unto David’s house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David’s wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.
12 Puis Michal descendit David par la fenêtre, et s'en allant il s'enfuit et échappa.
So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.
13 Et Michal prit le Theraphim et le mit dans le lit, et plaça la couverture de poil de chèvre à son chevet, et le recouvrit avec un tapis.
And Michal took an image, and laid [it] in the bed, and put a pillow of goats’ [hair] for his bolster, and covered [it] with a cloth.
14 Saül ayant donc envoyé les agents pour se saisir de David, elle dit: Il est malade.
And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He [is] sick.
15 Et Saül renvoya les agents pour voir David, en disant: Amenez-le moi dans son lit, pour que je le tue.
And Saul sent the messengers [again] to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.
16 Et les agents entrèrent; et voilà que c'était le Theraphim qui était dans le lit, et la couverture de poil de chèvre à son chevet
And when the messengers were come in, behold, [there was] an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats’ [hair] for his bolster.
17 Alors Saül dit à Michal: Pourquoi m'as-tu ainsi trompé et as-tu fait échapper mon ennemi? Et Mical dit à Saül: Il me disait: Laisse-moi partir, sinon, je te tue!
And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?
18 Or David s'étant enfui et sauvé arriva chez Samuel à Rama, et il lui raconta tout ce que lui avait fait Saül. Et ils allèrent lui et Samuel habiter Naioth.
So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.
19 Et l'avis en fut donné à Saül en ces termes: Voici, David est à Naioth, près de Rama.
And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David [is] at Naioth in Ramah.
20 Et Saül envoya des agents pour arrêter David. Et à la vue du collège des prophètes qui prophétisaient sous la conduite de Samuel, les agents de Saül furent sous l'action de l'Esprit de Dieu, et ils prophétisèrent eux aussi.
And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing [as] appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.
21 Et Saül en ayant été informé envoya d'autres agents, et ceux-ci prophétisèrent aussi. Et Saul envoya encore de troisièmes agents, et ceux-ci prophétisèrent aussi.
And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.
22 Alors il vint en personne à Rama; et arrivant à la grande citerne de Sechou, il interrogea en ces termes: Où sont Samuel et David? Et l'on répondit: Voici, à Naioth près de Rama.
Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that [is] in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where [are] Samuel and David? And [one] said, Behold, [they be] at Naioth in Ramah.
23 Et il s'achemina de ce côté-là, vers Naioth près de Rama, et il fut lui-même sous l'influence de l'Esprit de Dieu, et il cheminait toujours prophétisant jusqu'à son arrivée à Naioth près de Rama.
And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.
24 Et lui aussi ôta ses habits, lui aussi prophétisa devant Samuel et ainsi déshabillé il fut prosterné toute cette journée et toute la nuit. C'est pourquoi on a coutume de dire: Saül est-il aussi entre les prophètes?
And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, [Is] Saul also among the prophets?
