1 Samuel 18
1 Et lorsqu'il eut achevé son entretien avec Saül, l'âme de Jonathan s'unit à l'âme de David, et Jonathan l'aima comme son âme.
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 Et en ce même jour Saül l'attacha à sa personne et ne lui permit pas de retourner dans la maison de son père.
And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
3 Et Jonathan se lia avec David par un pacte, car il l'aimait comme son âme.
Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 Et Jonathan ôta le manteau qu'il portait et le donna à David avec son équipement jusqu'à son épée, son arc et sa ceinture.
And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that [was] upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5 Et David allait en course et réussissait partout ou Saul l'envoyait, et Saül le préposait sur les gens de guerre et il était bien vu de tout le peuple et de même des serviteurs de Saül.
And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, [and] behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
6 Et comme ils faisaient leur entrée lors du retour de David après sa victoire sur le Philistin, les femmes sortirent de toutes les villes d'Israël pour chanter et former des chœurs au-devant du Roi Saül avec des tambourins et des triangles, et dans l'allégresse.
And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
7 Et les femmes dansant chantaient tour à tour et disaient: Saül a abattu ses mille et David ses dix mille.
And the women answered [one another] as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
8 Et Saül en fut très irrité et mécontent de ce discours, et il dit: A David elles en donne dix mille, et à moi elles donnent les mille, il ne lui manque plus que la royauté.
And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed [but] thousands: and [what] can he have more but the kingdom?
9 A partir de ce jour et dorénavant Saül regarda David de mauvais œil.
And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
10 Et dès le lendemain Dieu fit sentir à Saül les atteintes d'un esprit sinistre; et il se démenait dans sa maison; cependant ce jour-là comme les autres jours David de sa main jouait du luth, et Saül avait la pique en main.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and [there was] a javelin in Saul’s hand.
11 Et Saül brandissant sa pique dit: Je veux percer David et la paroi; mais David se mit deux fois hors de sa portée.
And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall [with it]. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
12 Et Saül avait peur de David, car l'Éternel était avec lui et s'était éloigné de Saül.
And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13 Et Saül l'éloigna de lui et il l'établit chef de mille hommes; et il allait en course, et rentrait à la tête du peuple.
Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14 Et David réussissait dans toutes ses expéditions, et l'Éternel était avec lui.
And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD [was] with him.
15 Et Saül à la vue de ses grands succès avait peur de lui;
Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
16 mais tout Israël et Juda aimaient David parce qu'il sortait et rentrait à leur tête.
But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
17 Et Saül dit à David: Voici, je veux te donner pour femme Merab, ma fille aînée; seulement que j'aie en toi un brave soldat, et soutiens les guerres de l'Éternel. Or Saül se disait: Il faut qu'il sente, non pas ma main, mais celle des Philistins.
And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’s battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
18 Et David dit à Saül: Qui suis-je et quelle existence ai-je et qu'est la famille de mon père en Israël, pour devenir le gendre du Roi?
And David said unto Saul, Who [am] I? and what [is] my life, [or] my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?
19 Mais au moment où Merab, fille de Saül, devait être donnée à David, elle fut mariée à Adriel de Mehola.
But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul’s daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.
20 Cependant Michal, fille de Saül, aimait David, et l'on en informa Saül, à qui la chose agréa.
And Michal Saul’s daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
21 Et Saül dit je veux la lui donner pour qu'elle lui soit un piège et pour le mettre sous la main des Philistins. Et Saül dit à David pour la seconde fois: Tu deviendras mon gendre aujourd'hui.
And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in [the one of] the twain.
22 Et Saül donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs: Parlez secrètement à David en ces termes: Voici, le Roi a de l'affection pour toi, et tous ses serviteurs t'aiment; ainsi, deviens gendre du Roi.
And Saul commanded his servants, [saying], Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king’s son in law.
23 Et les serviteurs de Saül répétèrent ces paroles aux oreilles de David. Et David dit: Est-ce peu de chose à vos yeux que de devenir le gendre du Roi, moi, homme pauvre et sans considération?
And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you [a] light [thing] to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I [am] a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
24 Et les serviteurs de Saül firent rapport et dirent: C'est en ces termes que David a parlé.
And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.
25 Et Saül dit: Parlez ainsi à David: Le Roi ne veut pas de dot, mais cent prépuces des Philistins pour tirer vengeance des ennemis du Roi. Or la pensée de Saül était de faire périr David par la main des Philistins.
And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26 Et ses serviteurs transmirent à David ces paroles, et David agréa le projet de devenir gendre du Roi.
And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son in law: and the days were not expired.
27 Et le temps n'étant pas encore accompli, David se mit en mouvement, et marcha avec son monde et abattit parmi les Philistins deux cents hommes et il apporta leurs prépuces dont le nombre complet fut présenté au Roi, pour qu'il pût être son gendre; et Saül lui donna sa fille Michal en mariage.
Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
28 Et Saül comprit que l'Éternel était avec David; et Michal, fille de Saül, l'aimait.
And Saul saw and knew that the LORD [was] with David, and [that] Michal Saul’s daughter loved him.
29 Et la crainte que Saül avait de David, ne fit que s'accroître, et Saül devint pour toujours hostile à David.
And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.
30 Et lorsque les princes des Philistins se mettaient en campagne, à chacune de leurs campagnes David avait plus de succès que tous les serviteurs de Saül, et son nom était fort considéré.
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, [that] David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
