Job 18

1 Et Baldad de Sauchée, dit:

Then responded Bildad the Shuhite, and said: —

2 Quand donc te reposeras-tu? contiens-toi, afin que nous parlions aussi.

How long will ye make a perversion of words? Ye should understand, and, afterwards, we could speak.

3 Pourquoi devant toi sommes-nous muets comme des quadrupèdes?

Wherefore are we accounted like beasts? or appear stupid, in thine eyes?

4 Tu te mets en colère. Qu'y a-t-il? Si tu meurs, la terre sous le ciel sera-t-elle inhabitée, et les montagnes s'écrouleront-elles jusqu'à la base?

One tearing in pieces his own soul in his anger, —For thy sake, shall the earth be forsaken? or the rock be moved out of its place?

5 La lumière des impies s'éteindra, et d'eux il ne sortira point de flamme.

Even the light of the lawless, shall go out, —Neither shall shine the flame of his fire;

6 La lumière est ténèbres en la demeure de l'impie; la lampe qui l'éclaire s'éteindra.

The light, hath darkened in his tent, Yea, his lamp above him, goeth out;

7 Que les petits soient mis en possession de ses richesses; que ces conseils soient renversés.

The steppings of his strength are hemmed in, and his own counsel casteth him down;

8 Son pied s'est pris au piège, que le filet l'enveloppe tout entier.

For he is thrust into a net by his own feet, and, upon a trap, he marcheth;

9 Qu' il le retienne, et ceux qui ont soif de l'attaquer prendront courage.

There catcheth him—by the heel—a gin, there holdeth him fast—a noose:

10 Le câble était caché en terre, il devait le heurter dans le chemin.

Concealed in the ground is a cord for him, —and a snare for him, on the path.

11 Puissent les douleurs l'investir et le perdre, qu'elles l'entourent en foule à chacun de ses pas;

Round about, terrors have startled him, and have driven him to his feet.

12 Qu'il sente les angoisses de la faim; une chute extraordinaire lui a été réservée.

Let his strength be famished, and, calamity, be ready at his side;

13 Que les doigts de ses pieds soient rongés; la mort dévorera de lui tout ce qu'elle trouvera mûr pour elle.

Let it devour the members of his body, Let the firstborn of death devour his members;

14 Que la guérison fuie le toit qu'il habite, que la nécessité l'emprisonne comme s'il eût commis un crime contre le roi.

Uprooted, out of his tent, be his confidence, and let it drive him down to the king of terrors;

15 Dans sa nuit fatale il se sera vainement abrité sous sa tente; tout ce qui fait sa gloire sera bouleversé par la foudre;

There shall dwell in his tent, what is naught-of-his, Let brimstone be strewed over his dwelling;

16 Au plus profond de la terre les racines de ses arbres sécheront; à la surface sa maison tombera.

Beneath, let his roots be dried up, and, above, be cut off his branch;

17 Que tout souvenir de lui périsse sur la terre, et son nom appartiendra à la face invisible de l'univers.

His memorial, have perished out of the land, and let him have no name over the face of the open field;

18 Qu'il soit chassé de la lumière pour entrer dans les ténèbres.

Let them thrust him out of light into darkness, Yea, out of the world, let them chase him;

19 Il sera inconnu à son peuple, et sa famille ne lui survivra pas sous la voûte du ciel. D'autres vivront des biens qu'il a eus;

Let him have neither scion nor seed among his people, neither any survivor in his place of sojourn:

20 à cause de lui finalement on gémira; d'abord on aura été frappé d'étonnement.

Over his day, have they been astounded who come behind, and, them who are in advance, a shudder hath seized.

21 Tel est le sort des pervers; ainsi s'écroule la maison de ceux qui ne connaissent pas le Seigneur.

Surely, these, are the dwellings of him that is perverse, and, this, is the place of him that knoweth not GOD.
