1 Thessalonians 3
1 Wherefore no longer forbearing, we thought good to be left in Athens alone,
Perciò, non potendo più reggere, stimammo bene di esser lasciati soli ad Atene;
2 and did send Timotheus — our brother, and a ministrant of God, and our fellow-workman in the good news of the Christ — to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith,
e mandammo Timoteo, nostro fratello e ministro di Dio nella propagazione del Vangelo di Cristo, per confermarvi e confortarvi nella vostra fede,
3 that no one be moved in these tribulations, for yourselves have known that for this we are set,
affinché nessuno fosse scosso in mezzo a queste afflizioni; poiché voi stessi sapete che a questo siamo destinati.
4 for even when we were with you, we said to you beforehand, that we are about to suffer tribulation, as also it did come to pass, and ye have known [it];
Perché anche quando eravamo fra voi, vi predicevamo che saremmo afflitti; come anche è avvenuto, e voi lo sapete.
5 because of this also, I, no longer forbearing, did send to know your faith, lest he who is tempting did tempt you, and in vain might be our labour.
Perciò anch’io, non potendo più resistere, mandai ad informarmi della vostra fede, per tema che il tentatore vi avesse tentati, e la nostra fatica fosse riuscita vana.
6 And now Timotheus having come unto us from you, and having declared good news to us of your faith and love, and that ye have a good remembrance of us always, desiring much to see us, as we also [to see] you,
Ma ora che Timoteo è giunto qui da presso a voi e ci ha recato liete notizie della vostra fede e del vostro amore, e ci ha detto che serbate del continuo buona ricordanza di noi bramando di vederci, come anche noi bramiamo vedervi,
7 because of this we were comforted, brethren, over you, in all our tribulation and necessity, through your faith,
per questa ragione, fratelli, siamo stati consolati a vostro riguardo, in mezzo a tutte le nostre distrette e afflizioni, mediante la vostra fede;
8 because now we live, if ye may stand fast in the Lord;
perché ora viviamo, se voi state saldi nel Signore.
9 for what thanks are we able to recompense to God for you, for all the joy with which we do joy because of you in the presence of our God?
Poiché quali grazie possiam noi rendere a Dio, a vostro riguardo, per tutta l’allegrezza della quale ci rallegriamo a cagion di voi nel cospetto dell’Iddio nostro,
10 night and day exceedingly beseeching, that we might see your face, and perfect the things lacking in your faith.
mentre notte e giorno preghiamo intensamente di poter vedere la vostra faccia e supplire alle lacune della vostra fede?
11 And our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you,
Ora Iddio stesso, nostro Padre, e il Signor nostro Gesù ci appianino la via per venir da voi;
12 and you the Lord cause to increase and to abound in the love to one another, and to all, even as we also to you,
e quant’è a voi, il Signore vi accresca e vi faccia abbondare in amore gli uni verso gli altri e verso tutti, come anche noi abbondiamo verso voi,
13 to the establishing your hearts blameless in sanctification before our God and Father, in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
per confermare i vostri cuori, onde siano irreprensibili in santità nel cospetto di Dio nostro Padre, quando il Signor nostro Gesù verrà con tutti i suoi santi.
