Matthew 11
1 When Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
Cuando Jesús hubo acabado de dar así instrucciones a sus doce apóstoles, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en las ciudades de ellos.
2 Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples
Y Juan, al oír en su prisión las obras de Cristo, le envió a preguntar por medio de sus discípulos:
3 and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”
“¿Eres Tú «El que viene», o debemos esperar a otro?”
4 Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
Jesús les respondió y dijo: “Id y anunciad a Juan lo que oís y veis:
5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
Ciegos ven, cojos andan, leprosos son curados, sordos oyen, muertos resucitan, y pobres son evangelizados;
6 Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”
¡y dichoso el que no se escandalizare de Mí!”
7 As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
Y cuando ellos se retiraron, Jesús se puso a decir a las multitudes a propósito de Juan: “¿Qué salisteis a ver al desierto? ¿Acaso una caña sacudida por el viento?
8 But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
Y si no, ¿qué fuisteis a ver? ¿Un hombre ataviado con vestidos lujosos? Pero los que llevan vestidos lujosos están en las casas de los reyes.
9 But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.
Entonces ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un profeta? Sí, os digo, y más que profeta.
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
Este es de quien está escrito: “He ahí que Yo envío a mi mensajero que te preceda, el cual preparará tu camino delante de ti”.
11 Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
En verdad, os digo, no se ha levantado entre los hijos de mujer, uno mayor que Juan el Bautista; pero el más pequeño en el reino de los cielos es más grande que él.
12 From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el reino de los cielos padece fuerza, y los que usan la fuerza se apoderan de él.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
Todos los profetas, lo mismo que la Ley, han profetizado hasta Juan,
14 If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.
y, si queréis creerlo, él mismo es Elías, el que debía venir.
15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
¡Quién tiene oídos oiga!”
16 “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions
“¿Pero, con quien comparar la raza esta? Es semejante a muchachos que, sentados en las plazas, gritan a sus camaradas:
17 and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’
Os tocamos la flauta y no danzasteis, entonamos cantos fúnebres y no plañisteis.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
Porque; vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía, y dicen: “Está endemoniado”.
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”
Vino el Hijo del Hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Es un glotón y borracho, amigo de publicanos y de pecadores”. Mas la Sabiduría ha sido justificada por sus obras”.
20 Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent.
Entonces se puso a maldecir a las ciudades donde había hecho el mayor número de sus milagros, porque no se habían arrepentido:
21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
“¡Ay de ti Corazín! ¡Ay de ti Betsaida! porque si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubiesen hecho los prodigios que han sido hechos en vosotras, desde hace mucho tiempo se habrían arrepentido en saco y en ceniza.
22 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
Por eso os digo, que el día del juicio será más soportable para Tiro y Sidón que para vosotras.
23 You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today. (Hadēs g86)
Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿acaso habrás de ser exaltada hasta el cielo? Hasta el abismo serás abatida. Porque si en Sodoma hubiesen sucedido las maravillas que han sido hechas en ti, aún estaría ella en pie el día de hoy. (Hadēs g86)
24 But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”
Por eso te digo que el día del juicio será más soportable para la tierra de Sodoma que para ti”.
25 At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
Por aquel tiempo Jesús dio una respuesta, diciendo: “Yo te alabo, oh Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque encubres estas cosas a los sabios y a los prudentes, y las revelas a los pequeños.
26 Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
Así es, oh Padre, porque esto es lo que te agrada a Ti.
27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
A Mí me ha sido transmitido todo por mi Padre, y nadie conoce bien al Hijo sino el Padre, ni al Padre conoce bien nadie sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo quisiere revelar ( lo ).
28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
Venid a Mí todos los agobiados y los cargados, y Yo os haré descansar.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
Tomad sobre vosotros el yugo mío, y dejaos instruir por Mí, porque manso soy y humilde en el corazón; y encontrareis reposo para vuestras vidas.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Porque mi yugo es excelente; y mi carga es liviana”.
