Mark 6
1 He went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.
Jésus, étant parti de là, vint dans son pays, et ses disciples le suivirent.
2 When the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?” and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?
Quand le sabbat fut venu, il se mit à enseigner dans la synagogue; et la multitude qui l'écoutait était dans l'étonnement et disait: D'où cela lui vient-il? Quelle est cette sagesse qui lui est donnée, et comment de tels miracles se font-ils par ses mains?
3 Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” So they were offended at him.
N'est-ce pas le charpentier, le fils de Marie, le frère de Jacques, de Joses, de Jude et de Simon? Ses soeurs ne sont-elles pas ici parmi nous? Et il était pour eux une occasion de chute.
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.”
Mais Jésus leur dit: Un prophète n'est méprisé que dans son pays, dans sa parenté et dans sa maison.
5 He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.
Il ne put faire là aucun miracle, si ce n'est qu'il guérit un petit nombre de malades en leur imposant les mains;
6 He marveled because of their unbelief. He went around the villages teaching.
et il s'étonna de leur incrédulité. C'est ainsi qu'il parcourait, en enseignant, les villages des environs.
7 He called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.
Alors il appela les Douze, et il commença à les envoyer deux à deux, en leur donnant pouvoir sur les esprits impurs.
8 He commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse,
Il leur ordonna de ne rien prendre pour la route, sauf un bâton; de n'avoir ni pain, ni sac, ni monnaie dans leur ceinture;
9 but to wear sandals, and not put on two tunics.
de ne prendre pour chaussures que des sandales, et de ne pas emporter deux tuniques.
10 He said to them, “Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.
Il leur disait: En quelque maison que vous entriez, demeurez-y jusqu'à ce que vous partiez.
11 Whoever will not receive you nor hear you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them. Assuredly, I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
Et si, dans quelque endroit, on ne veut ni vous recevoir ni vous écouter, sortez de là, et secouez la poussière attachée à vos pieds, en témoignage contre les habitants.
12 They went out and preached that people should repent.
Étant donc partis, ils prêchèrent la repentance.
13 They cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick and healed them.
Ils chassaient beaucoup de démons, ils oignaient d'huile beaucoup de malades, et ils les guérissaient.
14 King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, “John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
Or, le roi Hérode entendit parler de Jésus, — dont le nom était devenu célèbre. — Et il disait: Ce Jean qui baptisait est ressuscité des morts; et c'est pour cela qu'il s'opère des miracles par son moyen.
15 But others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
D'autres disaient: C'est Élie; et d'autres disaient: C'est un prophète, pareil à l'un des anciens prophètes.
16 But Herod, when he heard this, said, “This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead.”
Mais Hérode, l'ayant appris, disait: C'est ce Jean que j'ai fait décapiter: il est ressuscité!
17 For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.
En effet, ce même Hérode avait envoyé prendre Jean; il l'avait fait enchaîner et mettre en prison, à cause d'Hérodias, femme de Philippe, son frère, parce qu'il l'avait épousée,
18 For John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
et que Jean lui avait dit: Il ne t'est pas permis d'avoir la femme de ton frère.
19 Herodias set herself against him and desired to kill him, but she couldn’t,
Aussi Hérodias était-elle remplie de haine contre Jean, et elle désirait le faire mourir. Mais elle ne le pouvait pas;
20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.
car Hérode craignait Jean, sachant que c'était un homme juste et saint. Il veillait sur lui; il était souvent troublé après l'avoir entendu, et il l'écoutait volontiers.
21 Then a convenient day came when Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.
Mais il se présenta un jour favorable: Hérode donna un festin, pour l'anniversaire de sa naissance, aux grands de sa cour, à ses officiers et aux principaux de la Galilée.
22 When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”
La fille même d'Hérodias, étant entrée, dansa, et elle plut à Hérode et à ses convives. Le roi dit à la jeune fille: Demande-moi ce que tu veux, et je te le donnerai.
23 He swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”
Il lui fit aussi ce serment: Tout ce que tu demanderas, je te le donnerai, quand ce serait la moitié de mon royaume!
24 She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” She said, “The head of John the Baptizer.”
Étant sortie, elle dit à sa mère: Que demanderai-je? Celle-ci lui répondit: La tête de Jean-Baptiste.
25 She came in immediately with haste to the king and requested, “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter.”
Aussitôt elle s'empressa de rentrer chez le roi, et elle lui fit sa demande, en disant: Je veux qu'à l'instant même, tu me donnes, sur un plat, la tête de Jean-Baptiste.
26 The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths and of his dinner guests, he didn’t wish to refuse her.
Le roi en fut fort attristé; mais, à cause de ses serments et des convives, il ne voulut pas lui opposer un refus.
27 Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard and commanded to bring John’s head; and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
Il envoya aussitôt l'un de ses gardes, avec l'ordre d'apporter la tête de Jean. Cet homme alla décapiter Jean dans la prison;
28 and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother.
il apporta la tête sur un plat, la donna à la jeune fille, et la jeune fille la donna à sa mère.
29 When his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
Les disciples de Jean l'ayant appris, vinrent et emportèrent son corps; et ils le mirent dans un tombeau.
30 The apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus, and they told him all things, whatever they had done, and whatever they had taught.
Les apôtres se rassemblèrent auprès de Jésus, et ils lui racontèrent tout ce qu'ils avaient fait et enseigné.
31 He said to them, “Come away into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
Il leur dit: Venez à l'écart, dans un lieu désert, et prenez un peu de repos. En effet, allait et venait tant de monde, qu'ils n'avaient pas même le temps de manger.
32 They went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.
Ils partirent donc dans la barque pour se retirer à l'écart, dans un lieu désert.
33 They saw them going, and many recognized him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to him.
Mais plusieurs les virent s'éloigner et les reconnurent; de toutes les villes le peuple accourut à pied là où ils se rendaient, et il y arriva avant eux.
34 Jesus came out, saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
Alors Jésus, étant sorti de la barque, vit une grande multitude, et il fut ému de compassion pour eux, parce qu'ils étaient comme des brebis qui n'ont point de berger; puis il se mit à leur enseigner beaucoup de choses.
35 When it was late in the day, his disciples came to him and said, “This place is deserted, and it is late in the day.
Comme l'heure était déjà avancée, ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui et lui dirent: Ce lieu est désert, et l'heure est déjà avancée;
36 Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.”
renvoie-les, afin qu'ils aillent dans les campagnes et les villages des environs, pour s'acheter de quoi manger.
37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
Il leur répondit: Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. Ils lui dirent! Irons-nous acheter pour deux cents deniers de pain, afin de leur donner à manger?
38 He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go see.” When they knew, they said, “Five, and two fish.”
Il leur répondit: Combien avez-vous de pains? Allez et voyez. Ils s'en assurèrent et lui dirent: Cinq pains et deux poissons.
39 He commanded them that everyone should sit down in groups on the green grass.
Alors il leur commanda de les faire tous asseoir, par groupes, sur l'herbe verte.
40 They sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.
Et ils s'assirent par rangées, par centaines et par cinquantaines.
41 He took the five loaves and the two fish; and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves, and he gave to his disciples to set before them, and he divided the two fish among them all.
Jésus prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons; et, levant les yeux au ciel, il rendit grâces, rompit les pains et les donna à ses disciples pour les offrir à la foule; il leur partagea aussi les deux poissons.
42 They all ate and were filled.
Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés;
43 They took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and also of the fish.
et on emporta douze paniers pleins de morceaux de pain, avec ce qui restait des poissons.
44 Those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
Or, ceux qui avaient mangé étaient au nombre de cinq mille hommes.
45 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he himself sent the multitude away.
Aussitôt après, Jésus obligea ses disciples à entrer dans la barque et à passer avant lui sur l'autre rive, vers Beth-saïda, pendant qu'il renverrait le peuple.
46 After he had taken leave of them, he went up the mountain to pray.
Après l'avoir renvoyé, il s'en alla sur la montagne pour prier.
47 When evening had come, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on the land.
Quand le soir fut venu, la barque était au milieu de la mer, et Jésus était seul à terre.
48 Seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea; and he would have passed by them,
Et il vit qu'ils avaient beaucoup de peine à ramer, parce que le vent leur était contraire. Vers la quatrième veille de la nuit, il vint à eux, marchant sur la mer; et il voulait les devancer.
49 but they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;
Quand ils le virent marcher sur la mer, ils crurent que c'était un fantôme, et ils jetèrent des cris;
50 for they all saw him and were troubled. But he immediately spoke with them and said to them, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”
car tous l'avaient vu, et ils en étaient troublés. Mais aussitôt il leur parla et leur dit: Rassurez-vous c'est moi, n'ayez point de peur!
51 He got into the boat with them; and the wind ceased, and they were very amazed among themselves, and marveled;
Alors il monta auprès d'eux dans la barque, et le vent s'apaisa. Ils furent encore plus saisis d'étonnement;
52 for they hadn’t understood about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.
Car ils n'avaient pas compris le miracle des pains, parce que leur cœur était endurci.
53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore.
Quand ils eurent traversé la mer, ils vinrent au pays de Génézareth, et ils abordèrent.
54 When they had come out of the boat, immediately the people recognized him,
Dès qu'ils furent sortis de la barque, les gens reconnurent Jésus:
55 and ran around that whole region, and began to bring those who were sick on their mats to where they heard he was.
ils parcoururent toute la contrée, et ils se mirent à apporter sur leurs lits ceux qui étaient malades, partout où ils entendaient dire que Jésus se trouvait.
56 Wherever he entered—into villages, or into cities, or into the country—they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment; and as many as touched him were made well.
Et dans tous les endroits où il arrivait, villages, villes ou campagnes, on mettait les malades sur les places publiques, et on le priait de leur permettre de toucher au moins le bord de son vêtement; et tous ceux qui le touchaient étaient guéris.
