Matthew 24
1 Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way. His disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.
Comme Jésus sortait du temple et s'éloignait, ses disciples s'approchèrent pour lui en faire considérer les bâtiments.
2 But he answered them, “You see all of these things, don’t you? Most certainly I tell you, there will not be left here one stone on another, that will not be thrown down.”
Mais il leur répondit: Vous voyez tout cela? En vérité, je vous le déclare, il ne restera ici pierre sur pierre qui ne soit renversée.
3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? What is the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?” (aiōn g165)
Comme il était assis sur la montagne des Oliviers, les disciples vinrent lui dire en particulier: Dis-nous quand ces choses arriveront, et quel sera le signe de ton avènement et de la fin du monde. (aiōn g165)
4 Jesus answered them, “Be careful that no one leads you astray.
Jésus leur répondit: Prenez garde que personne ne vous séduise!
5 For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will lead many astray.
En effet, plusieurs viendront en mon nom, en disant: Je suis le Christ. Et ils séduiront beaucoup de gens.
6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you aren’t troubled, for all this must happen, but the end is not yet.
Vous entendrez parler de guerres et de bruits de guerres: prenez garde, ne vous troublez pas! Car il faut que ces choses arrivent. Mais ce ne sera pas encore la fin.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, plagues, and earthquakes in various places.
Une nation s'élèvera contre une nation, et un royaume contre un royaume; il y aura des famines et des tremblements de terre en divers lieux.
8 But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.
Mais tout cela ne sera que le commencement des douleurs.
9 “Then they will deliver you up to oppression and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name’s sake.
Alors ils vous livreront aux supplices, et ils vous feront mourir; et vous serez haïs de toutes les nations à cause de mon nom.
10 Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.
Alors aussi, plusieurs succomberont à l'épreuve; ils se trahiront les uns les autres et se haïront les uns les autres.
11 Many false prophets will arise and will lead many astray.
Plusieurs faux prophètes s'élèveront et séduiront beaucoup de gens.
12 Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold.
Et parce que l'iniquité sera multipliée, la charité du plus grand nombre se refroidira.
13 But he who endures to the end will be saved.
Mais celui qui persévérera jusqu'à la fin, celui-là sera sauvé.
14 This Good News of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Et cet Évangile du royaume sera prêché par toute la terre, pour servir de témoignage à toutes les nations. Alors viendra la fin.
15 “When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),
Quand vous verrez établie dans le lieu saint l'abomination de la désolation, dont a parlé le prophète Daniel — que le lecteur fasse attention! —
16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
que ceux qui seront alors dans la Judée s'enfuient dans les montagnes;
17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take out the things that are in his house.
que celui qui sera sur le toit ne descende pas pour emporter ce qui est dans la maison;
18 Let him who is in the field not return back to get his clothes.
et que celui qui sera aux champs ne retourne pas en arrière pour prendre son manteau.
19 But woe to those who are with child and to nursing mothers in those days!
Malheur aux femmes qui seront enceintes et à celles qui allaiteront en ces jours-là!
20 Pray that your flight will not be in the winter nor on a Sabbath,
Priez pour que votre fuite n'arrive pas en hiver, ni en un jour de sabbat;
21 for then there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be.
car il y aura alors une grande affliction, telle qu'il n'y en a point eu de semblable depuis le commencement du monde jusqu'à présent, et qu'il n'y en aura jamais.
22 Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the chosen ones, those days will be shortened.
Et si ces jours-là n'étaient pas abrégés, aucune créature ne serait sauvée; mais ces jours-là seront abrégé» à cause des élus.
23 “Then if any man tells you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There!’ don’t believe it.
Alors, si quelqu'un vous dit: Voyez, le Christ est ici! — ou bien: Il est là! — ne le croyez point.
24 For false christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones.
Car de faux christs et de faux prophètes s'élèveront et feront de grands signes et des prodiges, jusqu'à séduire, s'il était possible, les élus eux-mêmes.
25 “Behold, I have told you beforehand.
Vous voilà prévenus!
26 “If therefore they tell you, ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness,’ don’t go out; or ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms,’ don’t believe it.
Si donc on vous dit: Le voici dans le désert. — n'y allez pas! Le voici dans l'intérieur de la maison!- ne le croyez pas!
27 For as the lightning flashes from the east, and is seen even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
Car, comme l'éclair part de l'Orient et brille jusqu'à l'Occident, il en sera de même de l'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
28 For wherever the carcass is, that is where the vultures gather together.
Où sera le cadavre, là s'assembleront les aigles.
29 “But immediately after the suffering of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken;
Aussitôt après l'affliction de ces jours-là, le soleil s'obscurcira, la lune ne donnera plus sa lumière, les étoiles tomberont du ciel, et les puissances des cieux seront ébranlées.
30 and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. Then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
Alors paraîtra dans le ciel le signe du Fils de l'homme: toutes les tribus de la terre se frapperont la poitrine, et elles verront le Fils de l'homme venir sur les nuées du ciel avec une grande puissance et une grande gloire.
31 He will send out his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together his chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Il enverra ses anges, qui, au son éclatant de la trompette, rassembleront ses élus des quatre vents, depuis une extrémité des cieux jusqu'à l'autre extrémité.
32 “Now from the fig tree learn this parable: When its branch has now become tender and produces its leaves, you know that the summer is near.
Écoutez une comparaison empruntée au figuier! Dès que ses branches deviennent tendres et qu'il pousse des feuilles, vous savez que l'été est proche.
33 Even so you also, when you see all these things, know that he is near, even at the doors.
Vous aussi de même, quand vous verrez toutes ces choses, sachez que le Fils de l'homme est proche, qu'il est à la porte.
34 Most certainly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things are accomplished.
En vérité, je vous le déclare, cette génération ne passera pas, que toutes ces choses n'arrivent.
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Le ciel et la terre passeront, mais mes paroles ne passeront point!
36 “But no one knows of that day and hour, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Pour ce qui est de ce jour et de cette heure, personne n'en sait rien, pas même les anges du ciel, ni même le Fils, mais le Père seul.
37 As the days of Noah were, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
Ce qui arriva aux jours de Noé arrivera de même à l'avènement du Fils de l'homme:
38 For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ship,
dans les jours qui précédèrent le déluge, on mangeait et on buvait, on se mariait et on donnait en mariage, jusqu'au jour où Noé entra dans l'arche,
39 and they didn’t know until the flood came and took them all away, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
— et les hommes ne s'avisèrent de rien, jusqu'au moment où vint le déluge qui les emporta tous. — Il en sera de même à l'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one will be left.
Alors, deux hommes seront dans un champ; l'un sera pris et l'autre laissé.
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one will be left.
Deux femmes moudront au moulin; l'une sera prise et l'autre laissée.
42 Watch therefore, for you don’t know in what hour your Lord comes.
Veillez donc; car vous ne savez pas à quelle heure votre Seigneur doit venir.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
Sachez-le bien, si le père de famille savait à quelle heure de la nuit le voleur viendra, il veillerait et ne laisserait pas percer sa maison.
44 Therefore also be ready, for in an hour that you don’t expect, the Son of Man will come.
Vous donc aussi, tenez-vous prêts; car le Fils de l'homme viendra à l'heure que vous ne pensez pas.
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has set over his household, to give them their food in due season?
Quel est le serviteur fidèle et prudent que le maître a établi sur ses domestiques, pour leur donner la nourriture au temps convenable?
46 Blessed is that servant whom his lord finds doing so when he comes.
Heureux sera le serviteur que le maître, à son arrivée, trouvera agissant ainsi!
47 Most certainly I tell you that he will set him over all that he has.
En vérité, je vous le déclare, il l'établira sur tous ses biens.
48 But if that evil servant should say in his heart, ‘My lord is delaying his coming,’
Si, au contraire, c'est un mauvais serviteur qui dise en son coeur: Mon maître tarde à venir. —
49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with the drunkards,
et qu'il se mette à battre ses compagnons de service, à manger et à boire avec les ivrognes, —
50 the lord of that servant will come in a day when he doesn’t expect it and in an hour when he doesn’t know it,
le maître de ce serviteur viendra le jour où il ne s'y attend pas, et à l'heure qu'il ne sait pas.
51 and will cut him in pieces and appoint his portion with the hypocrites. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.
Il le déchirera de coups de fouet, et il lui donnera son lot avec les hypocrites. C'est là qu'il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
