Luke 23
1 The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.
Et toute l’assemblée se levant, ils le menèrent à Pilate.
2 They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”
Et ils commencèrent à l’accuser, disant: Nous avons trouvé celui-ci pervertissant notre nation, défendant de payer le tribut à César, et disant qu’il est Christ roi.
3 Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”
Or Pilate l’interrogea, disant: Es-tu le roi des Juifs? Jésus répondant, dit: Tu le dis.
4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
Alors Pilate dit aux princes des prêtres et à la multitude: Je ne trouve aucune cause de mort en cet homme.
5 But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
Mais eux insistaient, disant: Il soulève le peuple, enseignant par toute la Judée, commençant par la Galilée jusqu’ici.
6 But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
Pilate entendant nommer la Galilée, demanda si cet homme était Galiléen.
7 When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
Et dès qu’il sut qu’il était de la juridiction d’Hérode, il le renvoya à Hérode, qui était lui-même à Jérusalem en ces jours-là.
8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.
Hérode, voyant Jésus, s’en réjouit beaucoup; car il désirait depuis longtemps de le voir, parce qu’il avait entendu dire beaucoup de choses de lui, et qu’il espérait lui voir faire quelque miracle.
9 He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.
Il lui faisait donc beaucoup de questions; mais Jésus ne lui répondait rien.
10 The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.
Cependant se trouvaient là les princes des prêtres et les scribes, l’accusant sans relâche.
11 Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.
Mais Hérode avec sa cour le méprisa; il se joua de lui après l’avoir revêtu d’une robe blanche, et il le renvoya à Pilate.
12 Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.
Et Hérode et Pilate devinrent amis ce jour-là même; auparavant ils étaient ennemis l’un de l’autre.
13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
Or Pilate ayant convoqué les princes des prêtres, les magistrats et le peuple,
14 and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and behold, having examined him before you, I found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.
Leur dit: Vous m’avez présenté cet homme comme soulevant le peuple; et voilà que, l’interrogeant devant vous, je n’ai rien trouvé en lui de ce dont vous l’accusez,
15 Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.
Ni Hérode non plus; car je vous ai envoyés à lui, et on ne l’a convaincu de rien qui mérite la mort.
16 I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
Je le renverrai donc après l’avoir fait châtier.
17 Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.
Car il était obligé de leur remettre un prisonnier pendant la fête.
18 But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—
Mais la foule tout entière cria: Otez celui-ci du monde, et délivrez-nous Barabbas.
19 one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.
(Lequel, à cause d’une sédition qui s’était faite dans la ville, et d’un meurtre, avait été mis en prison.)
20 Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,
Pilate leur parla de nouveau, désirant renvoyer Jésus.
21 but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
Mais eux redoublaient leurs clameurs, disant: Crucifiez-le, crucifiez-le!
22 He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
Et Pilate, pour la troisième fois, leur dit: Mais quel mal a fait celui-ci? Je ne trouve aucune cause de mort en lui; je le châtierai donc et le renverrai.
23 But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
Mais ils insistaient avec de grands cris, demandant qu’on le crucifiât; et leurs cris devenaient de plus en plus forts.
24 Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
Et Pilate ordonna que ce qu’ils demandaient fût exécuté.
25 He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.
Ainsi il leur délivra celui qui avait été mis en prison pour cause de sédition et de meurtre, et qu’ils demandaient, et il abandonna Jésus à leur volonté.
26 When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it after Jesus.
Or comme ils l’emmenaient, ils prirent un certain Simon de Cyrène, qui revenait des champs, et le chargèrent de porter la croix derrière Jésus.
27 A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.
Or une grande foule de peuple et de femmes le suivaient, se frappant la poitrine et se lamentant sur lui.
28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
Mais Jésus, se tournant vers elles, dit: Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur moi, mais pleurez sur vous-mêmes et sur vos enfants;
29 For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’
Car voici que viendront des jours où l’on dira: Heureuses les stériles, et les entrailles qui n’ont pas engendré, et les mamelles qui n’ont point allaité!
30 Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’
Alors ils commenceront à dire aux montagnes: Tombez sur nous: et aux collines: Couvrez-nous.
31 For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”
Car si l’on fait ainsi au bois vert, que sera-t-il fait au bois sec?
32 There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.
On conduisait aussi avec lui deux autres hommes qui étaient des malfaiteurs, pour les mettre à mort.
33 When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
Et lorsqu’ils furent arrivés au lieu qui est appelé Calvaire, ils le crucifièrent, et les voleurs aussi, l’un à sa droite, et l’autre à sa gauche.
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.
Mais Jésus disait: Mon Père, pardonnez-leur, car ils ne savent ce qu’ils font. Partageant ensuite ses vêtements, ils y jetèrent le sort.
35 The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”
Et le peuple était là, regardant, et les chefs le raillaient avec le peuple, disant: Il a sauvé les autres; qu’il se sauve, s’il est le Christ, l’élu de Dieu.
36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,
Les soldats mêmes, s’approchant, l’insultaient, lui présentant du vinaigre,
37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
Et disant: Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi.
38 An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Il y avait aussi au-dessus de lui une inscription où était écrit en caractères grecs, latins et hébreux: CELUI-CI EST LE ROI DES JUIFS.
39 One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”
Or l’un des voleurs qui étaient suspendus en croix le blasphémait, disant: Si tu es le Christ, sauve-toi toi-même, et nous aussi.
40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
Mais l’autre, répondant, le reprenait, disant: Ne crains-tu point Dieu, quand tu subis la même condamnation?
41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
Encore pour nous, c’est avec justice; car nous recevons ce que nos actions méritent; mais celui-ci n’a rien fait de mal.
42 He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
Et il disait à Jésus: Seigneur, souvenez-vous de moi quand vous serez arrivé dans votre royaume.
43 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
Et Jésus lui dit: En vérité, je te le dis, aujourd’hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis.
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
Il était environ la sixième heure, et les ténèbres couvrirent toute la terre jusqu’à la neuvième heure.
45 The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
Et le soleil s’obscurcit, et le voile du temple se déchira par le milieu.
46 Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.
Alors, criant d’une voix forte, Jésus dit: Mon Père, je remets mon esprit entre vos mains. Et disant cela, il expira.
47 When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.”
Or le centurion voyant ce qui était arrivé, glorifia Dieu, disant: Vraiment cet homme était juste.
48 All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their chests.
Et toute la multitude de ceux qui assistaient à ce spectacle, et qui voyaient ce qui se passait, s’en retournaient, frappant leur poitrine.
49 All his acquaintances and the women who followed with him from Galilee stood at a distance, watching these things.
Tous ceux de la connaissance de Jésus, et les femmes qui l’avaient suivi de Galilée, se tenaient à l’écart, considérant toutes ces choses.
50 Behold, there was a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man
Mais voilà qu’un décurion nommé Joseph, homme bon et juste,
51 (he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom.
Qui n’avait consenti ni au dessein, ni aux actes des autres, et qui était d’Arimathie, ville de Galilée, et attendait lui-même le royaume de Dieu,
52 This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.
Vint vers Pilate, et lui demanda le corps de Jésus
53 He took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.
Et l’ayant détaché de la croix, il l’enveloppa d’un linceul, et le mit dans un sépulcre taillé dans le roc, où personne n’avait encore été mis.
54 It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.
Or c’était le jour de la préparation, et le sabbat allait commencer.
55 The women who had come with him out of Galilee followed after, and saw the tomb and how his body was laid.
Les femmes qui étaient venues de la Galilée avec Jésus ayant suivi Joseph, virent le sépulcre, et comment le corps de Jésus y avait été mis.
56 They returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
Et s’en retournant, elles préparèrent des aromates et des parfums; et pendant le sabbat, elles demeurèrent en repos, selon la loi.
